I got this old Krag over a decade ago. It was already sporterized. I refinished the stock myself and had it reblued. I finally bought the S&K Instamount and inletted the stock last night and mounted the scope. This is the first rifle I’ve ever had to not have a scope mounted directly on top of the barrel. How should I accurize it to the rifle seeing how no matter what, the bullet and scope will “X” at some point? Any advice?
Here are some pics. The silver Leupold is the only spare scope I had handy. I think a black scope would look better.

I have my fathers Remington 760 with a quick attach side mount scope (my father never used a scope while he was hunting... in Michigan). I just sight it in so it hits 3/4" to the right of point of aim since the scope is offset 3/4" to the left. With no wind drift the 3/4" will be the same at 20 yards or 200 yards. It isn't optimal for a target rifle but plenty fine for a working rifle (deer rifle).

I assume you could also site in the rifle to be point of aim at 200 yards with the assumption you probably won't harvest game much past 200 yards... even at 400 yards wou will be just 3/4" off to the left after it goes through the 200 yard cross ove point.

This. Same on the 30-30 I scoped.

That’s how I imagined I would do this one. Just aim a bit to the left to hit center target.

I am just putting on a NOS Williams QC offset mount with low rings on my Krag sporterized (not by me !) carbine. I also dug up a set of High Over Center QC rings to see if they might work. If not I will take the 3/4" advice above. My scope is a 2.5 heavy post Weaver Steel A El Paso Micro Track . Or I might try the Lyman 4x Perma center I have although it is dot with pretty fine cross hairs, for the Krag's use leaning toward the 2.5x .
