LA City Council Passes Bill Banning Possession Of Mags Over 10 Rounds

No harm, no foul Prax. Apology on behalf of Calguns.net and other freedom loving CA residents accepted. Thanks Aragon for keeping it fact focused. As a young kid in Alabama, I was part of the majority to p!$$ on California, saying "Move out if you love guns." But do we really want to hand over one of the most populous states to the Anti-gunners without a fight? Like it or not, CA laws & regs sometimes seep out to other states or Fed law... keep that in mind. Don't you want MORE gun owners to stay put and try and vote out idiots like Pelosi & Feinstein... hard to do if everyone's "Gone to Texas" or AZ or MT. Thanks

People with a sense of history realize that things go in cycles. CA is not "lost." That's simply short-sighted ignorance. But it will take time to regain the gun right we have lost in this great state.

I **WISH** "everyone's "Gone to Texas" or AZ or MT." Sadly that's simply not the case.

So when I stated that people that lived in CA voted for antigun politicians, you seriously took it as me saying that every single person in CA voted for them and continue to vote for them, or are you purposely just being defensive and argumentative? That, or you took what I stated out of context based on what someone else has stated?

No, I took it as simply more CA-bashing.

Oh boy, this tired line again. "They're just jealous because I live in California."

I spent half my life in California, went shooting when I could, donated to CalGuns, and when I didn't have to be there anymore for work I got the HECK out! I'm in Texas now, it's got its faults too but trust me when I say that nobody, literally nobody else in the U.S. is envious of people living in California.

Suuuuuure you did...

It's not nearly as tired as those living outside of CA who constantly need to tell the world how happy they now are in the hopes of believing it themselves...

The more you attack CA, the more obvious your envy becomes...

OK Aragon, you got me on a technicality. Via gerrymandering it is, but look at a map and note that it is NW of Beverly Hills, and closer to Chatsworth or Calabasas which are independent of LA City. FWIW the Turner's ads always have an *asterisk beside many items with the disclaimer "Not available at Reseda location" Reseda is a far cry from downtown LA.

Those joining in who have no idea what we're talking about, when folks say "LA" they usually mean the balkanized conglomeration of neighborhoods extending from Santa Monica and Venice all the way in to Rosemead and Rowland Heights. Or from Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks southward to Anaheim (even though Disneyland is in Orange Co). I just wouldn't consider any of those places selling guns, including Reseda, to be in LA because I despise everything about Los Angeles. Santa Monica and Malibu are nice, but forget about LA! OK rant over :)

Praxadike, I half apologize. I still don't fell sorry for people that go out of their way to post drivel. :D

I'll give the benefit of the doubt that some of what you said may have been taken out of context.

I was mainly intending to reply to this utter BS. Its either ignorance or disingenuous at best.

......but trust me when I say that nobody, literally nobody else in the U.S. is envious of people living in California.

Thanks Bama Drifter. - Read my sig ;)

LA City is kinda weird in regards to all of the "districts" that have names and act like they are independent cities. Reseda, if I understand correctly, literally has a box that if a gun fits inside, cant be sold in Reseda. Hence the reason why the Turner ads always have "not avail in Reseda"

Wow, how wrong can one be? It has nothing at all to do with "gerrymandering." Absolutely none at all. Whew! The City of LA is dotted by MANY unincorporated cities which are easier to license for selling guns.

FWIW, Chatsworth is also in the City of Los Angeles -- just like Reseda.

Thousand Oaks is in Ventura County.

Venice is in the City of Los Angeles.

Simi Valley is in Ventura County.

Malibu is largely in Ventura County.

The City of LA is a HUGE place. Reseda and Chatsworth are every bit as much of the City as Downtown.

Ok, you win. I forfeit. The point I was making was that when you say "LA" as a catchall for many portions of SoCal it isn't the same as saying "New York" and just really meaning Manhattan. NYC while not as spread out as LA, has boroughs which are all under the "protection" of NYPD. LA is different... Shalom!

Aragon, back off. Bama Drifter is on the right side with the right intentions and attitude.

He's thinking/meaning LA 'proper' (which isn't official) vs. everything that technically included in "LA City".

I do the same thing and I grew up in SoCal (primarily No_OC. and some Riverside/Norco)

I don't like LA 'proper' either and avoid it. 'LA City' as a whole has some really nice stuff.

It like when TV portrays LA... its either Beverly Hills, Malibu etc or Its Compton, Lennox etc. Long Beach.... parts of it suck.... other parts, great.

Granted, I exaggerated. However, I wonder why you and Aragon are so certain that residents of other states are so 'envious' of California for ANY REASON?

Out of 15 households in my immediate family, 13 have moved out in the past decade. My mother's side has been in California for 60 years, and the only holdouts are her 89 year old father and one of my cousins on her side. The only ones who would care much about gun laws are myself and my maternal grandfather, and not quite half are of a liberal bent. My family is a lot happier in Texas, Arizona, Idaho, West Virginia, Washington... Pretty much anywhere that isn't California. To insinuate that people bash California because of jealousy is nonsense. I don't go out of my way to bash it, typically, but when someone wants to say that Texans are jealous of Californians well, I believe the record should be set straight.

No, I took it as simply more CA-bashing.
Then you'd be wrong again. Most here aren't bashing CA as a whole, but instead are bashing their gun laws that IMHO deserve to be bashed. Because you don't understand this or because you think the gun laws there are great, you seem to be getting upset, defensive, as well as taking comments out of context.

I'm NOT bashing CA on anything other than their gun laws.

No different than the NY bashing, i.e., "glad I don't live there". Probably a lot of people who do are also glad you don't live there.

Why can't some of the people here just get over themselves and stop patting themselves on the back for living somewhere with less restrictive gun laws while criticizing those who don't?

Believe it or not, guns aren't the only things that matter in life. Family, jobs, geographic preferences, climate, etc. all may count more.

Give it a break already.

Shuush!

The ignorant get their geography lessons from watching and re-watching their VHS collections of "COPS." They believe all of Illinois is Chicago, all of New York is New York City and all of California is the City of Los Angeles...

You are right. About the envy thing too. I love my state. IL has much going for it. My small town is very close knit. My son and daughter can walk the neighborhood safely we have personal relationships with all the store owners, and we don't have violent crime. We have excellent hunting, fishing, and outdoors activities, and big cities are only an hour away for museums and other such attractions.

This still has me scratching my head, the envy thing.

I'm not saying California or Illinois or New York don't have good aspects. I am asking why someone would envy them. You described a lot of positive things about Illinois, California probably shares many of them, but so does Texas. So do a lot of states.

I think of California and Illinois (and NYS, and NJ...), and the only thing that comes to mind that those states have that my state doesn't is BLM land. But, the urban areas of my state have less control over statewide policy. The cost of living and housing especially is a fraction of California's. Our gun laws have expanded lately thanks to the legislature. Illinois got concealed carry thanks to the courts but politically is still very anti-gun due to the urban areas, and California has enacted stricter gun laws statewide in the past few years.

So I ask again and again, what is there that we should envy that we can't find in whichever states we reside in?

People find happiness in what they want. For the most parts all states have great things.

As for Illinois and it's anti gun climate we have done much to reel that in. Our legislature can't pass a bad gun bill to save their lives. We have no statewide mag restrictions, AWBs, or any of that stuff. We have SBRs now and a solid push for suppressors that looks pretty good.

What many people fail to realize is that in IL there are large portions of the population that never go to Chicago or have EVER went to Chicago. It's two different states.

He was wrong about LA is all.

That's very true. But some places do garner a great deal more envy than other places. As an American for example I feel a lot of envy when dealing with many Europeans -- particularly those from Eastern Europe.

As a Californian, I have experienced envy from others and they have exclusively lived in places where most wouldn't want to live if they were being honest. The worse their home state, the greater their envy has been my experience.

This still has me scratching my head, the envy thing...

I just got home from a minor league baseball game. Some of the players' parents were from Texas, Oklahoma and Michigan.

They spent a great deal of time discussing just how beautiful California is. In this case, the bright blue days in the 70's with low humidity, the beaches, the cool evening fog, the giant redwoods, the gorgeous surrounding mountains, the multitude of recreational activities (from mountain climbing to surfing), etc., etc., etc.

Similarly, they discussed just how uncomfortable some places have been when they traveled elsewhere to see their sons play during the collegiate season.

Like it or not, God did grace some parts of the globe more than others -- irrespective of what man has done with those gifts.

I don't believe I have ever heard anti-California comments in real life from someone who also lived in a beautiful place -- be it Hawaii, Vermont or wherever.

On the other hand I've heard a considerable amount from those who live in places where most would not want to live. It's human nature.

Malibu is not largely Ventura, in fact it is zero Ventura county. The Malibu outline to the north butts right up to the Ventura county line.

More false facts spewed once again.

California used to be conservative. Then Reagan made a deal with the dems to allow amnesty of several million illegal immigrants so long as the border would be enforced. We see how that worked out. Dems lied. That influx changed the demographics to the point of changing Cali to a dem then lib state. They are trying the same thing nationally now and are about to get away with it. We all will be having Cali like laws if this happens. It's not just illegal immigration, is legal too. Ted "Chapaquidic - The Drunk" Kennedy started bringing in massive numbers of legal immigrants too. Too many for our job/economic situation.

Some one said it's cyclic. It's not. It's linear and it goes from good to bad to worse. Look at any civilization in world history. We're on the downside. It'll happen faster if amnesty passes.

Californians arguing about what "is" is California and what isnt. Classic!

Now the rest of the world knows why California is so screwed up! All the arguing does nothing to help our present situation. Who cares if someone has CA envy? Does that get rid of our horrible gun laws? What part of the Valley is part of the City of L.A. helps who? When the Valley wanted to secede from L.A., look how hard they fought that! L.A. doesn't want to lose any power or votes. Where were the voters then that wanted it?

Probably where they are most of the time when it's time to vote, absent! Voting records don't lie but a lot of voters do! Do I hate what they've done to CA? Yes but when you allow carpetbaggers and illegals to vote... They vote Democrat all the time and twice on Sunday when they can.

I happen to live in Cleveland, Ohio. We own the house lock, stock and barrel. I was NYC born and raised and during my younger years lived in CA. I often tell people the two places I will never live again are NYC and CA. So why Cleveland, Ohio? Because for my working life and career this is where the job was, a great job with very good pay and benefits. If this job would have been in NYC or CA then I would have lived there. Principals are for the most part BS. When you have a family and little hungry mouths for beanies and weenies you go where the job and money is. It just so happened I ended up here in the Cleveland suburbs.

Every winter I sort of miss CA where I lived in the LA and San Diego areas. When I am butt deep in snow I miss San Diego. NYC? Great food and endless entertainment. Try and find even a simple Napolitano style pizza around here? There was a reason for the song I Love NY. :) Retired now a few years we have thought about moving south. I like the Carolinas but during those working years? More often than not, people in certain career fields (including the military) don't have much choice. Heck, I spent 10 years living globally before Cleveland. My daughter was NC born and my son in Naples, Italy.

I have compassion for our shooting peers and friends in CA but not everyone has the ability to pack up and move. When you are in a political minority it sucks. You can yell I would move all you want but when reality comes along with real world responsibilities your rants of pack and move get real shallow in a deep pond.

I am happy with my gun rights in Ohio and any state I choose to live in I now can have a choice. I am fortunate in that respect but wasn't always that fortunate. If Ohio had gun laws like close Ill.. CA, or NY I still would have remained here for obvious reasons. Kid eat, leading the pack.

Just My Take On This Stuff....
Ron

Yes, that. I was second guessing the geography and even pulled up Google Maps to try and figure out part of Aragon's post... I think I'll call BS where I see it, especially since I married a Pepperdine alumnus (small Christian college in Malibu). W/o opening a new tab and going off the top of my head: Malibu is 27 miles long by 1 mile wide. Feel free to nitpick me on the part where it gets wide @ Point Dume. It basically begins west of Pacific Palisades where Sunset Blvd or Topanga hits PCH. I don't recall any of it being in Ventura, although there are some gun shops in Ventura.

Aragon, my wife grew up in Thousand Oaks and graduated from Pepperdine... what's your connection to Socal and why so much interest in the eschatology of Los Angeles & it's environs? Shalom :)

LOL!! Is that the same map you used on posting #79 regarding Chatsworth? LOL!!

Hypocrite.
