LA City Council Passes Bill Banning Possession Of Mags Over 10 Rounds

There has been a statewide ban since 1989. Cannot imagine a whole lot of those 10+ that were legally grandfathered in are still around?? Seems like grandstanding..

There are millions of them here.

Mags have no date codes for the most part -- or at least they didn't and the physical designs stayed fairly static in most cases.

Many AR15 mags produced today are indistinguishable from those produced 30 years ago...

On top of that there was the magazine "kit" workaround...

How did the whole idea/meme that a 10 rounder was a 'standard' capacity magazine get started?
It was dreamed up by the gun control lobby in the late 1980s or early 1990s, apparently. The very first magazine feed repeating rifles to go mainstream in the 1860s (Henry and Winchester) held 15 to 16 round in the magazine, as I recall. The very first mainstream double-attack 9mm pistol (Browning Hi-Power) held IIRC 13+1, so it has no historical basis whatsoever.

Colorado has an idiotic 15 round magazine limit, its a complete joke. There are no date stamps on the magazines and our Sheriff has indicated he won't even bother trying to enforce it.

I don't see what the problem is... People that live there voted for representatives that are antigun, so naturally, they enacting antigun laws. If you do not like the laws, then move or try to lobby up enough support to vote in New progun representatives...

I don't feel sorry for those that choose to live and stay in an antigun state that's filled with antigun voters, and then they act all surprised and appalled and insulted when laws like the one in the OP come about... I agree with the above posters who stated that they'd never live in CA.

Can we please stop with all the CA bashing? It is a pretty diverse state...I can pretty much guarantee that there are more 2A activists here than in any other state.
I could go on about other states....like Mississippi. Why would I move there with my two year old? The education system there is the worst in the country.
But I won't do that. This is the High Road. Bashing each other with stupid generalities does not belong here.

On the other hand someone living in say Iowa, Texas or Indiana will likely spew more than a little bitterness about California if asked about it -- a state most such people have never visited of course.

Oh boy, this tired line again. "They're just jealous because I live in California."

I spent half my life in California, went shooting when I could, donated to CalGuns, and when I didn't have to be there anymore for work I got the HECK out! I'm in Texas now, it's got its faults too but trust me when I say that nobody, literally nobody else in the U.S. is envious of people living in California.

I wasn't bashing. I'm stating the facts. CA is a majority Liberal state with mostly Liberal law makers. Therefore if you choose to stay there, you're going to have to deal with antigun laws. I'm all for fighting CA's unconstitutional gun laws in court, but the 10 round mag limit isn't unconstitutional. Taking the blatantly obvious majority antigun demographic in that state into account, there's nothing you can do about it anytime soon other than complain and expect more of the same in the future... You could also move to a more progun state where the majority of the demographic is also progun.

I live in AZ and CA.

I can attest to the fact that you don't know what you either don't know what you're talking about or make things up or are just lying.

I personally know people in a few southern states that would love to live in CA (despite me saying, careful of what you wish for).

I don't feel sorry for the people that go out of their way to post such drivel.

What does your response have to do with what I stated? Seems as you misread my post as stating that no one should live in CA, no one from southern states want to live in CA, and/or that I said I feel sorry for those that live there. That's NOT what I wrote. I stated that I those that choose to live there are doing so knowing that it's one of the most antigun states in the Union, so they should expect antigun laws if they choose to stay.

Having buddies in Santa Monica, I've visited the great Martin Retting Gun Shop in Culver City. On my first visit I said "Wow, I didn't think LA had gun stores anymore" To which the mgr scolded me, "NO we are in CULVER CITY, not city of Los Angeles! LA shut 'em down or ran them out yrs ago."

All I can say is thank God for places like Culver City and the slightly freer Inland Empire :) Good luck brothers in LaLa Land.

Not all.

Just another false conclusion.

The City of LA has guns shops. The Turner's chain comes to mind...

LA has plenty of other gun shops in cities like Burbank, Glendale, Culver, San Fernando, Inglewood, etc...

Btw, excellent post and proper attitude Danez71. I married a Californian, and yes CA laws suck, but if you want to see Presidential Colt revolvers, Custer's Tiffany engraved set of S&W revolvers, or bid on amazing collectibles from estates like Robert Petersen's you gotta be in SoCal. The Autry Museum and Little John's Auctions are my silver lining. Wife and I hate the hot dry weather and are looking fwd to her finishing up school so we may move to Montana or Wyoming... but until then I'll enjoy my fish tacos, beaches, mountains and Calgun culture. YMMV.

Yeah, Montana and Wyoming have great weather, LOL!!

CA has ALL sorts of weather...

First time I ever heard anyone whine about a lack of humidity. You'll like the Wyoming desert...

Okay I'm sorry. Those moving or living in CA should not expect the antigun Democrat majority to enact antigun laws like they've done countless times in the past. You're right and I'm wrong.I apologize.

No harm, no foul Prax. Apology on behalf of Calguns.net and other freedom loving CA residents accepted. Thanks Aragon for keeping it fact focused. As a young kid in Alabama, I was part of the majority to p!$$ on California, saying "Move out if you love guns." But do we really want to hand over one of the most populous states to the Anti-gunners without a fight? Like it or not, CA laws & regs sometimes seep out to other states or Fed law... keep that in mind. Don't you want MORE gun owners to stay put and try and vote out idiots like Pelosi & Feinstein... hard to do if everyone's "Gone to Texas" or AZ or MT. Thanks

No, it doesn't go without saying. Some of the comments on this thread are downright pathetic.
So when I stated that people that lived in CA voted for antigun politicians, you seriously took it as me saying that every single person in CA voted for them and continue to vote for them, or are you purposely just being defensive and argumentative? That, or you took what I stated out of context based on what someone else has stated?

The fact is that the state is solidly blue, antigun, and that's not going to change any sooner than Sothern red states turning into an antigun state.
