DEA Agent Suspended After Shooting Video Surfaces
Investigation Launched Into Who Leaked Internet Video

POSTED: 6:00 pm EST March 18, 2005
UPDATED: 4:01 am EST March 19, 2005

ORLANDO, Fla. -- An agent with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency was been suspended after video surfaced showing the man shooting himself during a gun safety class in front of a group of Orlando fourth-graders, according to Local 6 News.

An investigation has been launched to determine who leaked the home video of the undercover DEA agent shooting himself at an event sponsored by the Orlando Minority Youth Golf Association.

Before the shooting, the agent was videotaped talking about how certain weapons are popular with rap artists.

"This is a Glock 40," the agent said on the tape. "Fifty Cent, Too Short, all of them talk about a Glock 40, OK?," he said. "I'm the only one in this room professional enough that I know of to carry this Glock 40."

Seconds later, the agent shot himself in the foot.

"See how that accident happened, that could happen to you and you could be blown away," the agent said after the shooting.

Experts in the field said that the undercover agent should never have been videotaped because it could put the agent's life at risk, Local 6 News reported.

"It puts a lot of undercover agents in jeopardy if their faces are videotaped," the masked agent told Local 6 News. "His identity is burned. His identity is known as a police officer and its a potential personal safety hazard to himself as well as his family members."

The video of the shooting is posted on several Web sites on the Internet. The video shows the shooting and the agent's face.

Local 6 News did not show the entire video of the shooting because the undercover officer could be identified in some of the shots.

Isn't it amazing what most concerns this rogue agency which employs countless buffoons just like Rasta-Boy?

A "leaked" video tape?

I'm having difficulty deciding which is the greatest threat to liberty and good sense -- DEA and their "War on Some-Drugs" or F-Troop and the "War on Us."

This was done in a public setting. Should be covered under the First Amendment, unless the Patriot Act somehow walks on that right as well.

Bwahahahahahahahaha. Maybe it will SAVE his life if they take his gun away from him now.

CYA BS. When the guy first shot himself and endangered a room full of children in the process, the DEA lied about the event and what happened there. Now that they are shown to be liars and it's all over the internet what a complete incompetent they have as their showcase agent for gun safety they come up with this BS about his cover being blown and how it's everyone's fault but theirs.

Gee, maybe walking around in plain sight giving lectures with 'DEA' stamped on your shirt and then shooting yourself wasn't such a great idea for his cover, either.

Freaking idiots.

Why suspend him now?

I'm curious why they are only now suspending him? Are they saying they didn't know about it? It would seem that congressional hearings are called for with this. The DEA is clearly more risk to the general safety of the population than steroid using athletes. :scrutiny:

uh, NOT all DEA are undercover, and even when they are, the are nation wide, so can easily be seen in one state, but under in another.

HA!!! funny how they are mroe upset at the leka than ayting else.

HAHAHAHA == think if you KNEW this guy???
oR if YOU WRE this guy????

ahahahahahhahahahahahaqhah. dude should just dig a hole and lay down!!!

PS= as per the gunshot accident my worker had, this would be treated the same i think=
the sheriffs say "work related, you are an IDIOT" (in relation to the "report it")

After viewing this video, how could anyone believe we are winning the war on drugs? :what:

I have reason to KNOW--yes, I said know--from extremely credible sources that this post is true.

The Agent was not supposed to be doing public presentations. He got some time off for it.

I will not mention where I got the info from, out of a sense of propriety. But it is true.

How much you wanna bet he did not tell his supervisor, and that the recent discovery of the event is what led to the suspension.

Well, if he displays the same sense of dilligence and attention to detail to his investigative duties as he does to his firearms training, he needs to captain a desk. The DEA is mad because he contributed, in a negative sense, to the general opinion that more than a few feds are elitist fools.

My girlfriend, who doesn't know much about guns at all (but is learning) watched the copy I have and commented on how he didn't check the chamber and his finger was on the trigger, both things I drummed into her head about autos. One comment from another board I frequent stated that our DEA agent "didn't keep his booger hook off the bang switch." :neener: Spread it amongst yourselves.

hahah, hey so how many of you saved the video??

It's a crying shame that anyone thinks the episode was funny. This episode was tragic, and given its quick spread across the internet, won't do gunowners any good.

Whatever one's feelings about the DEA, the fact remains, that allowing gun safety lectures in public schools is probably a good thing -- at least as far as I'm concerned. Better than having kids learn gunhandling from the movies and television.

Clearly, the gentleman in question should not have been our poster guy for the RKBA movement and gun safety programs, but give credit to the school for at least allowing someone with good intentions (albeit bad instructional technique leading to negative results) into the school in an attempt to impart some level of firearms knowledge to the children.

im shoeing it to everyone i know!
And thus contributing to worsening the impact of the poor DEA man's sorry episode ... Of course, all the non-gun folks out there who see this video will be thinking, "Geez, and that's a guy who's supposed to know things about guns."

And finally, it's too bad that the whole thing turns into just one more opportunity to bash the DEA ... Of course, there's no chance that any member of this forum ever did anything stupid with a gun.

Old Dog,

I don't think he was trying to impart some firearms knowledge into these children. His (now) signature statement "I'm the only one in this room professional enough to carry a Glock 40" was not meant to impart any knowledge, but instead to show off the cool stuff he got to play with. He was just trying to show off for the kiddies in an "Officer Friendly is here to help" kind of way. It is funny because watching those with an excess of hubris get smacked back down is funny. Perhaps, if some of our federal law enforcement officials(not directed at anyone specifically) were to act with some kind of humility, I might be inclined to feel a bit sorry for him. The school would not have let him speak if he was going to share knowledge of firearms with the students. I imagine he was there to talk about drugs, related to a DARE program or some form of "Scared Straight" I'd imagine.

Of course, there's no chance that any member of this forum ever did anything stupid with a gun.

My mistake would not be on film, 20 seconds after I was talking about how cool I was, in a room full of children. *** was he thinking to draw in a classroom? There is stupid(firing into a wall or TV during dryfire practice) and then there is mindblowing idiocy that only blind luck saved from being a true tragedy(ND in a classroom filled with kids) and knowledge of safety provides a measure against stupidity becoming terminal. This guy ignored it to look cool.

I do agree with you about this guy not being a good representative of RKBA, but then he wasn't meant to be, was he?

no, his ineptness with his issue sidearm puts himself and his family at risk.
this was the best thing that happened to him and his family.

old dog, i did laugh when i saw the video. i laughed because it proves that law enforcement do NOT have jedi-like control of their weapons. it proves that law enforcement officers can and do make horrible mistakes with their weapons. i dont know how many times i have heard people say "only LEO's have the training to handle dangerous firearms".

i also laughed when the rest of the class yelled out in protest when the dea-idiot reached for an AR.

was it really tragic? no. it was eye-opening. and i for one am glad that the entire class was able to see the dangers of firearms at the hands of law enforcement, rather than in the hands of one of us lowly citizens who dont have the "professional training" that guy did.

Well, if he displays the same sense of dilligence and attention to detail to his investigative duties as he does to his firearms training,
...or his language skills.

This was certainly not tragic. He didn't just 'do something stupid with a firearm' he shot himself in the middle of a gun safety lecture with his duty weapon, which he obviously has no idea how to use, in a room full of children then continued to pull out more guns while he held his wound shut with his off hand.

That's not tragic. A child getting hit by a bus is tragic. This is comedy.
