Ironic; not "tragic"
"This episode was tragic, and given its quick spread across the internet, won't do gunowners any good."
NONSENSE! An arrogant cretin shooting himself is not tragic; it is ironic - "Hoist on his own petard," as the saying goes. Had he shot one of the children watching his incompetence - as the buffoon in Philly bloody near did - it would have been tragic. Read a dictionary and learn the difference.
"Whatever one's feelings about the DEA, the fact remains, that allowing gun safety lectures in public schools is probably a good thing -- at least as far as I'm concerned."
This was NOT a "gun safety" lecture in Eddie Eagle sense. It was apparently part of his establishing his "creds" for his spiel about gangs and drugs being poor choices. He was NOT there to educate them about firearms safety.
"Clearly, the gentleman in question should not have been our poster guy for the RKBA movement and gun safety programs, but give credit to the school for at least allowing someone with good intentions (albeit bad instructional technique leading to negative results) into the school in an attempt to impart some level of firearms knowledge to the children. "
WRONG, wrong, wrong. Rasta Man was NOT "our poster guy for the RKBA movement and gun safety programs," despite your delusional insistence that he was. He was NOT an advocate for the Second Amendment or firearms familiarization; he was an eliteist twit who was pompously declaring his superior skill while blowing a hole in his leg. Better his thigh than a child's head.
All these kids learned was that guns "go off." If that's your idea of a "gun safety lecture," you're on the wrong forum. Go Google the Million Mommies...
