LCP II - the sequel by Ruger

The appeal of the RM 380 to me is that it is so similar to the Rohrbaugh R9, the downside is that I can get something like a TCP for a lot less and almost every other .380 ACP pocket pistol out there has better sights than the RM380...

Decisions decisions... :(

I have a RM380 and a TCP.

Unless Taurus has finally fixed the false trigger reset which can cause releasing the hammer from pre-cock, I'd pass on the TCP. The KelTec P3AT the TCP is based on had this problem fixed for good by KelTec around their second generation or so. The TCP by generation 4 (D models), still hadn't corrected it with the improved sear/hammer block as used by KelTec and even Ruger (from the get go by Ruger, btw). ***

Now, coincidentally I went to the range yesterday and fired my RM380, Glock 36, and had opportunity with my friend's older Ruger LCPs.

If you're the type of shooter that prefers better triggers, you will want the LCP. Especially these new ones with even easier to pull triggers. I like the RM380 in every respect better than the older LCP except the LCP has a sweeter trigger without a doubt.

On the other hand, if you are used to and like shooting double action revolvers, you will probably like the RM380 trigger just fine. Part of the reason the RM380's trigger is the way it is, is due to it cocking the hammer completely with each trigger pull. Which is why it is a double strike capable pistol.

*** Note: I fixed my TCP years ago by using a Ruger sear/hammer block and modding the hammer. From what I've read, others have done the same thing using a KelTec sear/hammer block with no mods needed for the hammer.

Interesting... but not interesting enough to make me open up my wallet.

I picked up the LCP (G2) earlier this year when the price fell <$200 and it serves my need for a pocket gun just fine.

Unlike others, I don't expect a pocket gun to perform like my 1911s :p

On a side note, when I compared the Kahr CW380 to the LCP side by side, I really wanted to like the Kahr, but the profile at the top of the trigger bit me every time I dry fired it.

Ya, the Kahr has a smooth trigger and it's another gun that has a similar trigger to the R9, but the slide stop lever gouges me. It's easy enough to take a Dremel and grind it down and round it out, so that's another option I'm weighing

I will keep my old LCP, but i do like the hold open feature. I wonder if any parts are interchangeable like the barrel? It sucks that the hold open feature won't work with the old mags. My old LCP shoots so good even with my offhand(I carry it in my left pocket) that I hate to part with it. Even with cheap box ammo, its even better with my handloads! This is left handed 7 yards

I have one of the GEN II LCPs with the stainless slide. Ironically the GEN II improved both the trigger pull and slightly taller sights. With the trigger being the only safely, my LCP has a perfect trigger pull! I shoot a lot of DA revolvers and the LCP has an easier trigger than many revolvers. For a belly gun I truely wouldn't want any lighter or shorter of a pull!

I won't be upgrading, especially with the size and weight increase of the new version.

If you carry a spare mag, make the spare mag one of your old mags and carry a new mag in the gun. The new mag in the gun will lock the gun open when it is empty to trigger a reload. The old mag (your spare) won't hold the slide open, but it won't matter at that point since you don't have any more ammo anyway.

I carry two spares now and have 5 total. I practice dropping, loading a mag, and racking all the time. But on my other carry gun, the LC9, it holds open. It would be nice of they were both the same
