We don't get nearly enough choices of semi-autos here in CA, so we have to deal with what gets offered. However, the DOJ did add a few to the list this year so I thought I would check a some out. Reviews on the XDM Elite always seem positive, especially with the upgraded trigger. I do have an older XD-45 and have no complaints.

The LGS rep is a total Glock person, but I just can't go that way right now. He likes to modify and upgrade, me not so much. Not crazy about the looks or feel but understand the takedown is very simple and they are very reliable. Also handled a Sig 320 but honestly liked the feel of the XD better plus I like the longer barrel- this would not be a carry gun, just a shooter.
Haven't shot any of the above but I usually never do before buying. Just go with how the sights look to me, the feel in the hand, the looks, and reliable reviews. I don't get easily disappointed but do enjoy some of my pistols more than others. Thinking the XDM will be a good choice.

For me, the XDM is a "meh" choice. I'm more of a SIG / CZ guy but have a couple of 10mm XDMs, and I've shot plenty of Glucks. IMO, the XDMs are very reliable and are a little more preferable over the Glucks because of better triggers, better sights and they point better...and no need to pull trigger for takedown.

I just got a 4.5 XDM-Elite OSP in 10MM, on sale at Sportsman's Warehouse ($599 with four mags and a nice sling bag.)

Good sights, excellent trigger, 100% reliable with 300 rounds and three types of ammo. It's a bit big in the grip for me, but far more manageable than a large frame Glock would be.

The plate system from SA is not my absolute favorite, and they don't provide screws for an optic, so that's something to consider and plan for.

I'm pretty happy with both my XDMs. One is an earlier model, and the other is an "Elite".

On the Elite I ditched the mag well, and I was then able to use the standard XDM mags with no problem. I will probably look into replacing the sights though, since I'm not very happy with those. They work, and I do like the front fiber optic, but I'd prefer a tritium sight for the rear.

I have an XDm 5.25" 9mm competition model (the "working joe" version, not "elite"). The trigger is great, the front fiber optic sight almost aligns itself in the rear sight notch, and it has been extremely reliable. I've also had good luck with XD models in the past; my EDC for a dozen years or so was an XD45c. My XDm is even better.

For a range gun, I agree that an XDm is a great choice.

XDM’s are a great choice I have a Older XD 40 4 inch barrel , last fall I bought a XDM Elite Precision 5.25 inch barrel in 9mm it came with 3-22 round mags, it is a great gun the LGS had them on sale my out the door price was $685.00 which made me wonder if the Elite Precision was being discontinued and it has been. This gun is a great companion to my S&W 929 PC 8 shot revolver in 9mm. I would not hesitate to buy another Springfield they build great guns with great features for the money and I have several of there 1911’s. I am considering buying the Echelon next that gun really interest me. I can’t say anything bad about Glock but I just don’t like the way they feel in hand there just not for me. Attached is a picture of my Elite Precision. IMG_2039.jpeg

I was given a XDM 5.25 Elite in .45acp. It wasn't a gun I'd have bought for myself... until I shot it a few times. I was very impressed and pleased. So impressed I did find and purchase the 9mm caliber of the same gun. Both have become favorite range guns and more importantly become my two home defense guns. I trust their reliability completely. A great choice for quality range fun and protection.

The most comparable to the elite series may be the Canik TP9sfx series. Very similar in features, size, abilities and uses.

I have and older 40 xdm and a newer 9mm xdm with fiber optic sights, no problems from either one, will probably sell the 40 one day just to eliminate that caliber from my reloading, but the 9mm is a range favorite wife and son shoot it a lot. Very comfortable grip good sights never jams, these guns do not get the respect they deserve.

Having both the .45 and 9MM, I wonder if you could compare the grip sizes between them? I'm assuming my 10MM is a 'large frame', but haven't handled a 9MM to see if there's actually a difference.

i have the older 5.25 xdm 9mm. i had replaced the trigger with the powder river precision trigger which gives a nice trigger pull eliminating most of the mushiness and the overtravel from the original trigger.( in doing so now i have to pull the trigger before disassembly). the elite i think eliminated that problem. it is very easy to disassemble and clean. it was the gun i brought to the range the most in the past. after a few years, i started getting light primer strikes and replaced the striker spring which fixed the problem. i've replaced the recoil spring, striker spring and the striker retaining roll pin . should have replaced a small spring in front of the firing pin called striker dampening spring since i already had the striker removed. the grip pattern was not grippy for me so i have talon granulate grips on mine. the thing that bothers me about it is the hole on the upper part of the grip. it digs into my thumb joint while i am gripping the gun. if i hold it the way i grip a 1911, my thumb prevents the slide from locking back. you have to float your thumb or rest it on the thumb of the support hand.

I have an XDM Elite 9mm and love the 19 + 1 capacity. Unfortunately in California you don’t get that option.

I also live in California and own an XD-40 and XD-45, absolutely great pistols. Was at Turners the other day and got to handle and dry fire some of the new additions to the Handgun Roster. Hellcat, Hellcat Pro, Shield Plus, M&P 4-inch, M&P 4.5-inch, Sig M18, 365, and XDM Elite. Liked the XDM Elite the best, and that's what I'm getting. The Springfield Echelon isn't on The Roster, or I might have gone with that.
