I've been trying to buy a Sig 226 for 8 weeks now. The store I'm trying to buy from was originally told by his supplier that the Homeland Security contract Sig recently won would slow things down. They guessed 4-8 weeks for delivery. Well its been 8 weeks and they say it is nowhere in sight, and won't even give a guess as to a new delivery time. I got frustrated and called Sig customer service. They told me there is no delay in their supply of 226's to dealers. They gave me the names of four dealers who have them in stock today. I call my gun store back, he says he doesn't have a relationship with any of the four dealers who do have guns. I asked him to check with his two dealers again, in light of Sig's feedback, to see if there isn't a way they can get a gun for me. I asked him if I should call Sig and, as the guy with the cash, give them the names of my guys dealers and request that they supply them with a pistol for me. He asked me to be careful about this kind of thing, and not p*ss somebody off. I wasn't going to be rude about it, but what is wrong with the world if I have to run this kind of interferance just to make a purchase. :banghead:

What is going on here ?!?!?!?!?!? I'm trying to force money on these people and they won't take it. Also nobody but me seems to want to solve the problem. Are their some weird behind the scenes politics/favoritism going on that I don't understand?

I'd really like to get this gun, but I'm getting really frustrated. Any advice?

sorry to hear. one of the reasons i try like hell to never order anything. i pay more many times by getting one off the shelf but there is something to be said for one in the hand...

can you go take your money and purchase one off the self somewhere?

Homeland Security

These guys are buying all the guns. H&K recently got the same contract Sig did! 65,000 pistols. H&K is making USP Compacts and P2000s for DHS.

Most of the shop owners I know don't like a manufacturer for one reason or another. Does your shop owner have Sigs in stock?

Seems like your dealer is blowing smoke, OR his supplier's are blowing smoke up his behind. The Homeland Security contract if for the P226 and P229 rail pistols with the new DAK trigger. If you want a P226 without the rail and no DAK trigger you should of had one by now. In dealing with Sigarms customer service in the past, I've had no problems with parts, service, or info they have provided me. The info they gave you would seem to be on the up and up. Sig has given no indication that there is or will be any shortage of any particular P series model. I'm in Maryland, and even though the prices are too damn high, brand new P226's are availible here.
Check with other dealers in your general area. It could be a bit of a drive to get that P226 you want, but it'll be worth it. Keep in mind, your dealer does not have to deal with what he calls "his suppliers". If you find a 226 anywhere in the country, just do a FFL to FFL transfer to your dealer. Find the gun you want, pay the out of state FFL dealer for the gun and his fee, he sends the gun,you pay your dealer fee's,and you have a gun. If your dealer can't satisfy you as a customer, drop kick him, and find another dealer that will do you proper.
But that's me.. :)

Take your money to one of the four dealers that have one in stock. You don't need a dealer that won't at least try to find you a gun.

You weren't left hangin by Sig----you were left hangin by the dealer.

Go find another dealer and blow this chump off.

That's one of those: What??? You don't want my money???? Hasta lavista ---baby!!!

It seems like my latest complaint broke things loose. He says the gun will be in next week. I've bought from this store before, and the guy is nice, and has the best prices in Minneapolis, that's why I was trying to deal through him. Sig's are pricey enough that I didn't want to spend the $20-$80 increase at other stores in the area. I thought out of state dealers would be too much hassle  Live and learn

Sig customer service told me the same as the above response... delays would only affect the pistols with rails, which isn't what I ordered, so there shouldn't have been a problem in the first place. I think the problem was with the supplier (middle man between Sig and the Store owner), but I'm not going to give this store owner an infinite number of future chances either.

Then again, maybe it's me. I've had other experiences where I get no response, like the time someone threw an explosive device under my car while I was driving in to work one morning. After several calls to 911, and a couple of days delay I was finally told "the police don't investigate things like that". Perhaps I'm invisible and just don't know it :uhoh:

...like the time someone threw an explosive device under my car while I was driving...
Whaaat? Where in Iraq does your commute take you? Are we talking pipebomb here or blackcats? I can't imagine 911 ignoring the former but should on the latter. Even if firecrackers are illegal in your county. So what was it?

Not unless 50th St and Upton Ave has been moved to Iraq. I don't know what it was, all I saw was a lit fuse on some object arcing in front of my car. It wasn't a black-cat, that much is sure. There was a boom, a bright flash, and my car was engulfed in smoke. I pulled onto a side street and parked. The smoke eventually disipated, and the car kept running, so apparently there was no permanent damage. Someone saw my smoking car and called the fire dept. When the fire truck went past I saw a half dressed teenage boy run out of a house (in the rain) and look in a very worried way at the fire truck. This house is only two blocks from the fire station, so I'm guessing he sees them go by constantly and has no need to be interested unless he threw the device. I told the police all this and they weren't interested in even nocking on the kids door and telling his parents what he was up to.
I'm not trying to make it seem like I was at risk of being blown up, but it wasn't a trivial matter either. I didn't panic and swerve into the oncomming lane, but the next person might. What if my window had been open, or I'd had a convertible and his aim had been off. I don't expect the cops to drop everything to look into this, but they could at least have come by later that day or the next and let him know it was reported.
Two weeks later I heard there were several car break-ins on this block. Hmmm, wonder if they were connected. The house is for rent again, so I imagine the dirt bag parents took their dirt bag son to another neighborhood to continue his dirt bag ways.

I have bad luck with cops and bombs. I also found an old pipe bomb in my basement once and called a cop, only to have the idiot intentionally drop in on my workbench.

Cops are necessary, but not always very bright or usefull. That's one reason I got a CCW.

Why don't you eliminate your problems by ordering a P226 from Ordnanceoutsellers.com? They have the best prices I've seen on Sig's and can deliver right away. All you have to do is find an FFL in your area to do the transfer. You don't even have to pay sales tax, just shipping and a trasfer fee. BTW, As a rule, I don't pay anymore than $20 for transfers.

Some dealers have trouble working with all distributors. Distributors decided who to work with on largely financial (getting paid for shipping product) considerations.

I see plenty of new 226s out there.

If you stick with one, and only one, dealer, then you'll be getting the service that his distributors are willing to give him.
