A buddy of mine has a CCW license, but only has a .22 Smith & Wesson target pistol, which obviously isn't an ideal carry peice. He has the unfortunate luck of having to make a trip soon into a rather nasty, what I would consider pretty high-crime area. Anyway he doesn't carry his .22 often, if at all, and asked if he could borrow one of my guns (would probably let him take the Beretta) just for this one particular day. I was hesitatant to say yes until I did a little checking first.

Anyone know what the laws are reguarding letting other people borrow carry guns? What kind of ramifications could there be if, God forbid, he was placed in a situation in which he had to use it?

If you live in the same state, and its legal in that state to do a private transfer of a handgun, you should be good. I would sell him the gun then buy it back on his return, personally.

Hmmmmm, might have to do that. 10 minutes at the gun store might save a lot of potential hassle down the road.

If he has a CCW tell him to buy his own gun in the caliber of his choice.

Rule #1 for me is I don't loan guns to anyone. you can shoot them with me next to you at the range but they NEVER leave my sight or posession.

MI law may be different

I was told that a CCW permit (MI) allowed for carrying any gun regardless of who owned the gun. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. I will try and find more info in the meantime.

3. Is it okay if I loan my pistol to a friend?

MCL 28.432 An individual can carry, possess, use or transport a pistol belonging to another individual, if the pistol is properly licensed and inspected under the Act, and the individual carrying, possessing, using or transporting the pistol has obtained a license to carry a pistol concealed permit under this Act.

FWIW, I think the lender is asking to be added to the complaint in the event of trouble that leads to litigation...
