Hello guys,

Question? Seems to me that the vast majority of LEO carry guns is a Glock of some sort.

Does anyone know who or what departments carry Beretta 92s, CZ-75 (types), or the Sig Saeur Pro types? (Seems like the Pro was quite popular for awhile) The reason I ask, is that I own these pistols and am wondering who actually still might have these in service.

Thanks much for your replies...

In my neck of the woods, it's either Sig Sauer or Smith and Wesson M&P.
Delaware State Police - Sig P229DAK .357 SIG
New Castle County Police - Smith and Wesson M&P .40
Wilmington P.D. - Smith and Wesson M&P .40 (a few still have SW99s)
Newark P.D. - Sig P229DAK .357 SIG
University of Delaware P.D. - Sig P229DAK .357 SIG
Delaware Capitol Police - Sig P229DAK .357 SIG.
Delaware Probation and Parole - Smith and Wesson M&P .40
Delaware DOC - Sig Sauer P229DAK .357 SIG.

Per Glock's website, they represent over 60% of the LEO market. CHP and ISP (Indiana) at one time carried the Beretta, but I believe they both switched to other manufacturers.

My agency is pretty good. If you don't want the issued Glock fotay, you can provide your own quality 40SW or 45ACP. Plain clothes may use a 9mm. Only about half take the Glock...

I have always used 1911s and XDs.

New York State Police carry the Glock 37 (.45 GAP). They switched over from the 9mm Glock 17 in 2007 after a trooper was killed in a shootout with two bank robbers. He hit one of them once and the other one four times, but they both survived.

Last I heard, Texas State Troopers carry the Sig P226 in .357 Sig. Most of my local PD's carry a Glock in .40. Though quite a few smaller ones carry Officer owned of various sorts and Department approved. I've heard here and there that some are looking into the Smith M&P though.

I know here in eastern NC, a lot of agencies including state troopers, sheriffs, and MANY local departments have moved from SIG/Glock in the .357sig to M&P but still shooting the .357sig round. They all seem to like it. For those that have stuck with the .45ACP, all I really see are Sig p220s.

2340

Does anyone carry (still) the 2340? I have never been a LEO. Served my time back when there was still a draft, but have been a civilian most of my life.
I own a "Blue Line" Sig 2340, police issue. IMHO, a great poly Sig. I think that these were once (not too long ago) carried by several depts.

Any input?

Thanks

Byrd I think TDPS switched over to the Glock in .40cal. I was pulled over on the way to the range along with getting a warning, we talked guns for a bit, he was carrying a G23. Said he had been carrying it for only a few months but loved it. Thanked him for serving our state, he thanked me for serving our country and we shook hands. Heck of a guy!

In my area the Sheriff's department has Sig 226's in .40, local PDs have glock 22s, State police have M&P's. I think Charlotte has the M&P as well.

One of the local cities just switched from beretta 96s last year.

From a LEO stand point I'd say a polymer striker gun would be best choice. Lighter, simpler, and cheaper. The local sheriff is the only department I know of that has a hammer fired all metal gun.

The department in my town issues the Sig P226 in .40. Officers have the option of buying their own gun of a different brand as long as it is in .40. I've seen mostly Sigs and Glocks. One guy I know carries an M & P. I've shot both Sigs and the M & P. That M & P is a sweet shootin' pistol considering how little it weighs.

I'm not sure what highway patrol carries but I'm pretty sure they are a little lenient with what officers carry. The Texas Rangers are issued Sig P226s in .357 Sig. However, they can carry most any gun that they wish as long as they qualify with it.

To answer the OP, I know that some LAPD cops still carry Beretta 92 variants.

I do believe LAPD and LASD authorize Beretta 92. I also know DEA authorized the Sig P2022 as well. I don't think I know of anyone authorizing the CZ 75 though. I believe there are a few departments in more rural areas authorizing the 2022. And I know the Beretta 92FS was very popular for awhile but in the end most departments have moved on to Glock in my opinion.

I also know Chicago PD used to authorize the Beretta 92FS but in a DAO only configuration. I also believe they authorized the Sig P2022 but as a DAO gun however they now only allow Glock, XD, and M&P guns for new hires. They went to all striker fired guns.

The only LEO agency that I know of that issues the Sig Pro is the French National Police.
They issue it in 9mm.

I was issued a P228DAO. Now I'm issued a P220R. Search google for an excellent Sig Pro FAQ with depts using it.
