That Vg10 laminated steel may not be “The Best” Yet it can get Scary Sharp! Is very strong…Plus it isn’t difficult to touch up after hard use.

Drilling a second hole in the handle would also be a good move to enable a tight fitting pin completely through.

I'm seeing a hole on the bottom edge. Of course it isn't the best angle and my eyes could be deceiving me. You can't see the top edge, but if there is a hole on the bottom, I'm betting there is one on the top too. No reason not to.

Also, while very nice knives I wouldn't call several of these "survival knives". To my way of thinking several of these I'd call fighting knives. Is my terminology incorrect?

Yes, there are several dedicated "fighters"- Randall-esqe skinny "Bowies", as well as several "boot knives".

If you're referring to the Cold Steel Bushman, there is only one hole in the one I have and posted.

Joe Flowers thinks well of the Bushman (and Joe's opinion carries a lot of weight). A couple of simple mods like slipping some bike inner-tube over the handle or wrapping in light cordage and slipping the tube over can improve grip, but also provide fire-starter.

View attachment 1041494 This a Varusteleka (sounds like "where is the liquor") Terävä Skrama 240 Carbon steel. It came from Finland in 2 weeks. It has a 30° edge on the top 2/3 and it tapers to 20° near the handle for finer work.
Unfortunately, I wasn't paying attention, and put mine back in the sheath upside down! I haven't been able to get mine out so far. I don't want to destroy the sheath in the process, so I'll probably take it to a friend who has a heat gun.

Look up Felix Immlur on You tube. The greatest bush craftsman I’ve ever seen. Works for Victorinox also. Does everything with a Sak and knowledge. Makes a boat, skies, shelter, and Tons of other items. Very impressive to say the least 2B640D9D-7A12-4F4F-8906-3266F8DC32A6.jpeg

This custom made for me Newt Martin (RIP) MCE2 was a tribute to the original Lile "Rambo" but some feel it is every bit as good in some ways. The saw really works well; can cut a 2x4" in less than 2 minutes . Has a good compass in cap and handle can hold quite a bit. Is a good chopper , not a competition one but the knife would be a ferocious fighter (defender against anything ) the 10" 1/4"+ blade is very hard 5160 ball bearing steel. . The heavy leather sheath matches my Milt Sparks holsters and has a Norton India stone in the pocket . the cord on the handle can un wrap and the handle tube is heavy knurled.

Not the best picture, but some classics.

A one-to-one copy by Sgt. Mike McCarter of the only Kephart not in a museum. Mike made it with period materials.

A Randall 18 from the 70s

A Vietnam era Warner/Dickey Garcia Survival Knife

A 1976 Blackie Collins S&W Survival Bowie

All except the Kephart clone have hollow storage handles.
