Anyone can join the GCA. Go to www.thegca.org to join. Many well known collectors of the Garand, such as Scott Duff, Dave McClain, Bob Seijas among others, belong to the GCA. Tony Pucci, CEO of Orion 7 Enterprises, just became Co-Chairman of the Board of Directors. With your permission, the GCA notifies the CMP of your membership so that when you purchase a rifle from CMP you only need give your GCA membership number. You will also receive a quarterly magazine with alot of information regarding the M1 Garand. I have been a member since about 1988 and have seen the GCA grow from less than 100 members to almost 13,000 today. Anyone with an interest in the Garand needs to be a member.

looking to get a springfield m1. what should I get it in?

on the one hand, .308 is a very common caliber, while on the other 30-06 is the original, but i'm not sure of how uncommon it is, or how much more epensive it is than .308

Son and I have 6 Garands. One from each manufacturer, and two SA service grades with WW2 serial numbers (low 6 digit.) All were purchased from CMP. We have had a ball shooting them in service rifle matches and Garand matches. Our first M1 carbine from CMP arrived last week, Quality Hardware service grade. Beautiful shape.

Oh my gosh... I am crying man tears right now at the sight of all these beautiful Garands. I really, really, really, REALLY want to get one. It'll match beautifully with my 1911. I'm a huge history buff, so I just HAVE to own one of these rifles. Wow. Beautiful pics guys, just gorgeous. I love the M1 Garand and everything that it's history represents.

Best thread I've seen here in a while.

My one and only, an early '50s Springfield Greek return, just after I got it:

Very accurate shooter and it the coolest rifle I have, for sure.

type 2 national match, papered and unfired. found it at a pawnshop in freeport texas. it has both copies of the release paperwork, the shipping receipt & the shipping label from the box. it was $152 shipped in 1964.
i have fun taunting the gunshow dealers with it.

Joey, you nailed it. Then add an M1 Carbine for a WW2 trifecta. History made manifest.

+10 for the first one to post pics of their Gas trap Garand. My Garand had a few minor gas trap parts, so it got me interested.

In a way, im jealous of the later Garands many of you guys have. Original walnut ww2 stocks are expensive, and finding the right one is proving to be the thorn in my Garand's restoration. Mine was one we shipped to the Danes, but had many of it's original parts including the barrel. Did have a few Beretta parts as well, which is typical for a former Dane.

My M1 needed FRIENDS...

so I got her some 30-06 brass "ear-rings" all the way from Greece...

and a nice, sharp letter opener (courtesy of the Danes)

all she needs now is a sleeping bag... to keep her warm and dry...

5.8xx-xxx Springfield 1955... love at first sight-in....

Very nice. I've seen a lot of excellent 5.4 and 5.8mil SA's.

5.8mil SA SG I picked at the store during the National Matches this summer.

Well, I've just set the wheels in motion to get one from CMP. I still can't decide whether to splurge for Correct Grade, or just go with the Service Grade and take my chances.

I heard that in addition to being a member of an approved club, you have to prove to CMP that you attended one of their matches to get a Garand from them. Is this true?

No. You have to have proof you are a safe marksman, a bunch of things can be used for this. A copy of your DD214 if you served, A Concealed Carry Permit, certificate of completion of Hunter's Safety course, and several other things. They even have a form you can print up that has a checklist you can take to your local range, and have the range officer pass you off on.
