Do you steer him towards firearms that'll help him to learn to enjoy shooting, and thereby change his viewpoint, or do you pick out the guns you've been wanting for yourself, which you'll buy off him for a song when he calms down?
Ah, yes --- well, leftists appear to be right about one thing here: sometimes there are pesky moral and ethical dilemmas at every turn.

Thanks for the smile, Antibubba.

I plan to buy some guns if Kerry wins because I KNOW he will try to outlaw them and it is more unlikely he could ban guns already owned as easy as NEW guns.
Well got to get some sleep. Still need the job to make money to buy guns whoever wins.

Let's welcome another gun owner into our ranks - the AP just gave Bush NV's 5 electoral votes to make 274! :D

Where are you taking them shopping? :D

Be sure to let us know what he chooses; make sure that his wife insists on buying one, too. :)

Also be sure to let him know which laws Kerry tried to pass to outlaw whatever gun he ends up buying.

What? You say Kerry is an avid hunter and would protect shooters' rights? Hmm. Probably would ban all but goose guns and, of course, if you don't hunt geese then you don't need even that gun
Sure. Just like in Germany, where you can jump through an endless series of hurdles to get a gun off the "government-approved" list, but you're only allowed to use it for "sporting" purposes. Lord help you if you actually try to use it in self-defense, or even worse, against a tyrannical government. Of course, it's not like Germany's ever had a tyrannical government.

I don't understand this person's mindset. They're buying a gun because they're resentful and angry? That scares me. What's worse is, now they're a gun owner, so when they do something stupid (which is pretty likely, judging from what you've said), it'll just reinforce the idea that guns are bad, and should be outlawed for all but "sporting purposes."

I have begun to learn that I am surrounded by Liberals of the more strident variety in my family and circle of friends.

Now that the election is over (for most non-neurotics) I am going to let things simmer with my liberal best friend, daughter and wife's friend. They are all in the vomit-if-Bush-is-elected group, the one considering buying a gun and some considering moving to Canada. (Canadian THR members consider yourselves duly warned.)

When I think it is safe to speak up without sending them into seizures I will offer to assist with the gun purchase with the proviso that he accompany me to the range immediately after picking it up.

In the meantime, I will relax a bit and start going down my own rather modest and simple wish list.

Hmmm. Lessee, do I start with the Remington 870 HD 12 GA or the CMP Garand? No, that would require investment in more reloading equipment. Of course I have been eyeing an new build Hornady Lock-N-Load AP with brass feeder. Maybe the Marlin in .357 magnum to match the revolvers? Nah, gotta be the 870, then the M-1, then the Marlin. That's the ticket!!

My birthday IS coming up in a couple of weeks. Time to drop hints to Julie...

On the off-chance that the polls were right (yeah I know  ) I bought a couple more cases of ammo. I figured if Kerry wins I'll have it and if Bush wins I'll just use it for range fodder. Looks like I've got a bit more range fodder. It's not like two cases is a lot of ammo, it took one case just to break in my Les Baer.

Now we've got a four year reprieve. Here's to whoever takes on Hillary in 2008.
