Lion hunting video

I would have like to have seen that lion bite that guys head off at the shoulders... :)

That would make a real memorable video to show the kiddies.

Also = Way to many guns - even more piss poor shots taken.

MLC.

As far as Lion hunting goes in the RSA....There are only two ways to do it.

A. You can hunt a problem park cat or one that has left park boundries and got on to a farm (ranch).

B. You can shoot a lion that has been raised and released. Also known as a canned hunt. And I use the term hunt very very lightly.

I don't know what the true story is here I had originaly heard that it was a park cat that had got on to this game resreve. Who knows, but in anycase it didn't work out like planned did it ?

If you have the time money and desire to hunt a lion go to Tanzania, Zambia, Botswana or Zimbabwe and do it the right way.

For all of you Jeff Copper fans out there. Remember reading about his Lion Charge. Well that was on a game reserve (not a park) in the RSA...I'll leave it at that.

Shot placement, shot placement etc, etc...

I guess I shoulda mentioned bllet selection in there too. Anybdy know the particulars? What did they hit him with and how many times?

What the HELL??

I have never understood why people hunt lions?? Do most lions run away, or do they just sit there like this one did. I don't see how that is very sporting. I bet that guy paid at least $10K to shoot a lion that initially just sat there. I have hunted just about everything there is to hunt here in WI, but I can't see how hunting a lion that doesn't run away or try to evade you can be considered sporting. Looks more like target practice to me.

I know absolutely nothing about hunting dangerous game. Is this sort of thing "normal", or should/could the professional hunter have done anything differently in order to avoid the lion's getting within eating distance of the client? Was it simply an instance of the client not making a clean kill?

Sure would give you something to talk about while enjoying sundowners around the campfire!

I would not wish a piss poor shot placement like that on a varmint, much less one of the Big Cats of Africa. I can just see this nincompoop now "Hurr hurr this here lion is from my afreecan safaree where me an 4 of my closest friends shot a lion up and denied it the decency of a clean kill" :cuss:

Oh yeah. I let my wife see it....and she was hopin' for the lion to prevail.

After my second review, I am disgusted.

If you are going to hunt, it is imperative that you get a clean kill.

When one needs a gang of five to take an animal, you need to re-think your goal. Is it hunting at that point?

A guide and a gun puts you way ahead. Do you really need 3 back-ups? I guess this guy did because he was focusing on Miller time instead of the shot.

And the happy dance at the end made me puke. He failed to meet the standard, but high-fives all around! :barf:

I wish the Lion would have got him. Wimpy guys with guns shooting beautiful animals to prove they have big weenies.

Better yet, I would love to have that guy in my Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class. You have to be a man to do that. It takes work and discipline. And, you can't hide behind your gun.

Waste of a good Lion.

Maybe it was just a fluke but it sure did look like when the lion dropped after the first shot he got up and looked as if to say: "which one of them batstids just shot me". He then B-lines straight for him and only him.

I guess I am not the only one that thinks huntings lions is kind of pathetic.

What about lion hunting make everyone else here mad???? It makes me mad that the lion never tries to get away. I think it is a stretch to even call that hunting.

Thats a powerful beast.

Makes me pause and think about the people they used to feed to the lions for sport.

People hunt game like that because it is rare and dangerous - thats the thrill - not the "hunt" of stalking so much.

I can't say that I would or would not do it if I had the opportunity.

The guy would have been more in danger had he ordered a happy meal in SE DC. Yes, I wish the lion got a piece of those hunters.

Just count the number of times they MISS! :uhoh:
They all have nice big scopes. Probably too heavy for them. Thats why there are so many of them, and the "hunter" needs a shooting stick to make a sub 100 yard shot...

Not only are they lousy shots and hunters, but they also have the wrong equipment (too small caliber, big scopes).
Hunting up close like that, you eighter have a low powered scope or express sights. Oh, and here we see the benefit of double rifles (as semi autos are illegal for hunting in South Africa).

Without knowing anymore details, it is possible that this lion was a cull lion and instead of the authorities destroying it, they may have issued a permit to a local outfitter (I am speculating, mind you).

With medium or heavy rifles at this range, did they miss? or did the round scream right thru the animal. Wounded, enraged, looking for payback, a peripheral hit, just isn't going to do it.

Personally, I don't have any interest in hunting lions or aiding those who want to hunt them, but I will not condem someone based on a few minutes of tape or without further information than has been presented.

But, that is just me.

Note: after watching it again and again, How many people here, could make a shot on a moving lion basically screaming down your throat at 30 mph.

A friend did point out to me that most places in Africa that allow hunting require a 375 H&H as a minimum for dangerous game and that your guide has the last word on your shot and generally, you have a guide and they usually have a back up that works for them (tracker or for something like this) hunting lions is not for the faint at heart.
