Desert,

If I were you, I wouldn't worry about it and just wait until I'm 21.

I mean, you really don't need a gun to protect yourself, do you? I mean...otherwise, you wouldn't let your "Daddys" signature be an obstacle to preserving your existence.

Thank you for all your post they have really helped. I am in a current process of calling a lawyer and finding if there is any way to obtain the FOID. If there isnt I will wait. I have thought a lot about why they have the law to begin with and I have come to the large realization that many my age are really to imature to even have firearms excepy for the ones who went through LAw Enforcement or the Military. I myself am not imature I can really say that I am very carefull and understanding of the dangers associated with firearms. As a cadet I learned that very quickly. Luckily for me I am moving with my wife to Las Vegas to become a police officer in the following year. My main reason for being so fast and wanting my liscense is to aquire some guns that may not be legal for purchase by the time I get to Vegas. I was very interested in getting the new Bushmaster ACR and maybe a PS90 before they are gone forever. In my eyes I know for a fact that within the next few years there will be a very large ban on most rifles and maybe all pistols. That ban could be administered via domestic law or through the United Nations. So I am in a very big hurry to get what I can, because I will never get this chance again. I look at it as my main priority becasue I honestly dont think this country will last but more than 30 years. So I may nead these firearms to defend my family in years to come. I am one of those people who look for the worst situations that could happen and prepare for them no matter how far off that may be. Thank you

If you really feel that guns may not be availible, why on earth did you move to the most restrictive state in the country?

PRIL has nothing of value to offer a firearms owner, in fact quite the opposite. Regular illegal seizure of firearms motivated by days off or even cash bonus to officers.

Oh yeah, once you get your FOID card, don't EVER use it for identification, if you do, it is PC for you and your property to be searched.

IMHO there is no reason what so ever to reside in PRIL.

Well what about moms signature?

What if dad is dead? You loose the ability to have guns? I knew IL was/is retarded but jeeez...

I can't see how they have a legal leg to srtand on- at least in the case of long arms- at least unil billery or osama- er I mean obama is elected...

I was thinking that myself. What if both of my parents were dead, they are not; but what about all those other people my age that fall into that category of having no legal guardian. I think we have a serious flaw in this law. Like all other laws:scrutiny:

Many people your age are not mature and many are. Choosing a career in law enforcement or military may, in many cases, be an indication of maturity, *BUT* *not* choosing such a career is by no means *EVER* an indication of lack of maturity.

Please don't buy into the propaganda about these laws. They are merely designed to control as many people as people. Young people are vulnerable to this because sadly, not too many voters and legislators care much about the rights of young people.

If indeed, the law demands a paternal signature there is a huge equal protection problem. It sounds from other posters like there are alternatives. Personally, in Illinois, right now, I would hesitate to ask a campus-based legal advice center for advice on firearms law. They seem to indicate that are *not* serving as your lawyer, but pointing you in the right direction. There may be no confidentiality, and at this stage in your life/career, you don't need hysterics jumping to conclusions about you.

Unless your twentieth birthday was yesterday, time will take care of this problem pretty quickly, probably more quickly than any legal process, and a heckuva lot more cheaply.

Welcome to Illinois. Yes, things are bad here and could get worse but many of us are not into giving up either. At this time we have bills which are newely written that if they all passed would make what we have now look like a gun owners paradise. One of the best things you or anyone else in Illinois can do is attend IGOLD 2008 and become active in the gun rights movement. You can find out more at www.illinoiscarry.com an internet forum dedicated to concealed carry in Illinois.
I didn't mean to detour the thread but all citizens of Illinois not happy with the present laws need to help turn things around. PM me if anyone wants more info, Jim.

I am getting so tired of all these laws; sometimes I think that I should have got into another hobby that didnt require so much. When will it all end when can I not worry if the gun I am buying will be illegal in a few years. I use to live in California where nothing is legal, I always wanted a AR-15 when in California but could not get it. Then I got married and moved to Illinois and found out that AR-15's are legal here. They are right in front of me and I cant get one because of the age law; and you know the irony of it, by the time I am 21 they will probably be banned in all states after the elections. So I may never get the Dam thing ever. Why could I not have been born in Oklahoma or something:banghead:.

I believe federal law permits attatched neighboring states to sell long guns to individuals... You could go out of state and buy that AR I believe. Not that I would recomend bringing it illegally into a restricted area but ya could buy one and store it where legal until you were.

Someone asked a few post back what a FOID is... I think it stands for Firearms Owner Identification...

If you live in Ill, I think you have to have one to by any type of firearms or ammo or maybe even gun parts...

I got asked for mine at Wal-Mart in Granite City Ill tonight... Didn't have to have one though because I live in Missouri...

Was kinda funny, I was doing a little stocking up and bought 2 boxes .308, 2 (100 rnd ) boxes of 9mm Luger and 2 (100 rnd) boxes of .45....

For some reason she asked if the 9mm was for a pistol or rifle???

I said, it works in either as long as its chambered for it... Why???

She said the computer wants to know, I said, I'm using it for both so take your pick... Puzzled she was...

If he buys it in a neighboring state that is one thing, however he will have to store it in a neighboring state as well. He cannot legally own it without a FOID card. I would suggest your wife an FOID and have her buy the gun as she is older if I remember correctly.

Desert Scorpion: I suggest you relax. You are getting all worked up over nothing. Take some of the advice here. You are sounding more paranoid and angry than anything else.

My wife is over 21:rolleyes: maybe I will get her a birthday present then take it back from her when I move to Nevada.:scrutiny:

If your wife is over 21 you are emancipated by marriage. Likely, she can JUST SIGN FOR YOU. Of course, that concept won't make sense and your card won't come through. Same reasoning; she can go into a bar as your guardian (although you can't drink anyway); the bouncer won't care or understand. Morover, if you don't want to play, transer your gear to her until you reach your majority.

Welcome to IL.

I am moving to Nevada but it is not for a year, all AW will be banned by that time I know it.

First, an early welcome to Nevada. If you have lived in Cali and Ill you will find the firearms laws in Nevada quite liberal (in the classical sense) We have handgun registration in most of Clark county (with the exception of Boulder City) and thats about it. CCW is supposed to be pretty easy to get.

Most of the state belongs to the BLM, you can shoot on any BLM land as long as you are more than 1000' feet from any buildings, have a decent backdrop, and are outside of the Las Vegas Valley (inside the Valley you have to be at a range).

As for another AWB, You have to consider that McObillary won't be able to take office until January of '09. The POTUS won't be able to just make instant bans pass. The AWB is not high on any current agendas, It will definitely take time to hammer out details, so I wouldn't expect a ban for at least a couple years. It is currently being seen as political suicide after the results of the last one (some dems see it as costing them the white house). The outcome of the Heller case might make another AWB harder to pass.

I say get thee to Nevada ASAP! Even if it means establishing residency early and commuting back to Ill for the rest of the year. Or you could wait it out.
