Looking for a Protestant Church that is pro 2nd Amendment

Methodist churches are not all the same, it really depends on the Minister. UMCs do not require ministers to follow the church discipline. I know this sounds confusing, but it really comes down to church shopping until you find a minister and church family that holds the same values that you do.

As InkEd said, there a far more important issues dealing with what a church or denomination believes over being pro-2A or not. That being said I do understand to a point. There is a church my wife likes to visit on occasion and always asks me to come with but I refuse to go because they have a no gun sign posted at the doors. I carry everywhere I go and the church that we are members of I always carry and the pastor has no issues with it, so to each his own. Church is about worshipping God first and foremost but I understand being uncomfortable if a specific church forbids carry.

Just my own experience here, most Pentecostal churches are likely to be Pro-2A. At worst you'd probably find plenty who are neutral on the subject.

For those that say focus on other things first, I would offer this: Most Christian churches in America agree and pert near 90% with regards to theology. Doctrinal issues are usually blown way out of proportion. That leaves other things specific to America, like the 2A or socialized medicine and the like.

In Michigan you need the pastor's or presiding authorities' permission to conceal carry with a permit in a place of worship. So knowing the organization's (or pastor's) stance on the 2A may be more important than you think.

Grew up in the (pre-United) Methodist church. Married into the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. Never heard the first anti-gun peep in either church.

As long as any given church of interest to you is pro Bible then anything else is moot.
As Vamo said, it is up to you where your offerings are spent.
If you really need to know where a 'church' stands on the 2nd. You will need to speak with the Deacons of said church because they represent the people who in reality are the 'church'. This is not a position or a decision of a Pastor. If it is. You have your family in the wrong building.

Also I might suggest talking to specific preachers privately if you are at odds with his church's position.

I agree with this. Also, some denominations may not have written views on the subject, so talking to the minister would be the best course of action. In Arkansas, you can carry with the minister's permission, so you would need to speak to him anyway.

ba ba booey, can you go to your local range and ask around? Might try that approach....

This is a great idea. There may even be a minister who is a member of the range. That would make it easy.

I belong to a cowboy church, conservative Baptist, and as another Arizona poster wrote, carrying is part of the culture, as one would expect living in an economy driven by agriculture and ranching.

Ask around with your shooting buddies and attend different churches to find the one you resonate with, everything else will fall into place. :)

Sorry didn't see "Protestant" there.

As a general matter, keep in mind that some churches may ban carry in the church for doctrinal reasons that have no direct relationship to the current political battles.

If you church falls into the turn the other cheek idea of self defense I would recommend a quick read of Nehemiah 4:18.

The OP is looking for a denomination with a more "liturgical" worship. That leaves out Baptist and most non-denominational churches. Best bet, given the preference for "liturgical" will be some Methodist or Episcopalian group that has spun off from the mainline branches. It would be off topic to address "why liturgical?"

Umm I think this is going to be more of a church to church sorta thing. I know I go to a Church of Christ and there are dozens of people that are hunters and own guns (including the minister). I believe that any church that is taking a stand on guns one way or another, is doing so to cater to the local political/social environment. I know my copy of the bible doesn't say anything about firearms...

As has already been pointed out, United Methodists vary a great deal from congregation to congregation. The national organization has become increasingly knee-jerk liberal over the past 15 years or so, but the local churches - particularly those in the rural South - don't pay much if any attention to what the regional Conferences have to say on social issues. Especially if the OP is looking for a more structured liturgy, don't write off all UMC congregations.

I attend a large Methodist church in a town of about 30,000, and not one word has ever been said about "gun violence." I know many avid hunters and several ccw holders who worship there regularly.

I think you're making a mountain out of a mole hill. I don't really care if I dissagree with the minister or priest. It can make for some interesting conversations.

As with anything in modern American society, find a more conservative church, and you'll find a more gun friendly church. Choose one of the mainstream denominations like those mentioned by the OP, whose politics tend to be more liberal, and you'll find a more anti-gun stance. It's not rocket science.

On a side-note (for those who have insinuated as much), nothing in the Bible, or in Christ's teachings are inherently anti-gun. Anti-murder, yes. Anti-defense, no. As with some many things, "CONTEXT IS EVERYTHING".

You are welcome at our Church any time... We are the First Presbyterian Church, we are under the PCUSA, but we don't affiliate with them, as the last liberal change of sexual preference was adopted. But we here in a little town welcome 2A, don't believe me, just try to pull something some Sunday morning:neener:

M y wife and I attended the annual conference of the Desert Southwest district of the United Methodist Church. As voting members we were a little disgruntled at the current way the Church leadership is taking us. So we are probably going to be moving on as well.

Their stance on LGBT issues and many other things are moving way to far to the left for our liking.

I think part of the problem is how to tithe when a portion of the money goes back to the national organization, that may have been taken over by communists and heretics -- who then use that money to support causes you find offensive. This occurs even if you find a local parish where you agree with everything (good luck with that "everything" part)

There are ways around that, but it takes a little work; you can designate all of your gifts to goto the denomination's disaster relief program, or the local church's electric bill, or whatever, AWAY from the general fund.

As for just about any church that is titled as "United" being anti 2A, not so. I was born Catholic, raised Methodist, and have been with the United Pentecostal Church since 1977, so I have a pretty well rounded background in terms of doctrine. My current house of God ( United Pentecostal ) does not impede us from carrying, and actually shows support for those who desire to carry. It wasn't such with my previous church affiliations though.
I also know that the Mormon faith is very right wing as well.
Good luck, and I hope this helps you find a faith that supports what your seeking.

I think we're going to close this one. I appreciate most staying on topic.

ba ba, if you don't think you got enough opinions, feel free to PM me. :)
