looking for the next best to a Glock 19

You can get Glock 22s for pretty close to $300. 19s and 17s sell for a bit more used. 22s are much more common as police trade ins, and not as popular.

I've never seen a 19 for $300.

You gotta wonder though. These things pretty much don't wear out (not at the rate the majority of people shoot). They've been selling at a good clip since they came out 20 years ago. There are also many other quality pistols.

Is the market ever going to saturate? Where are all the pistols?

I own a lot of the guns being debated here, but I tend to gravitate to what I shoot best. Let me snap a shot of what is sitting next to me as I type this...
CZ, baby---

You might want to look at the Ruger SR9. I've heard good things about them, but have never shot one. Very Glockish, and cheaper.

this is what you are looking for.

close to a g19 as you can get and half the price

Smith & Wesson Sigma $250 each. (after $50 rebate from SW)

SW40VE top
SW9VE bottom

Really, no. A 21 oz gun, unloaded? Kahr, maybe. With 15 rounds in the magazine? No, only other Glocks...

While not a great fan, the light weight, combined with large magazines is near impossible to match in any other firearm.

Thankfully, Our Lords in California have decided that only LEO, and a select few should have over 10 rounds to protect themselves, of course unless you are a BAD GUY, AND DON'T FOLLOW THE LAWS.

I would agree with the CZ PCR but in my area CZ's are not that big of a savings over Glocks.

I would still go with a used Glock 19 over the PCR but the PCR is the closest gun to what your attempting to accomplish. Most of the other guns mentioned here are heavier or bigger or equal in cost. And the Sigma's trade off is a very mediocre trigger. To me the Sigma is overpriced at $250 when I can find used Glocks around $300-350.

Also Glock mags can, generally, still be found cheaper and more plentiful than most other guns mags.

I handled quite a few 9mms when I was shopping. Now, not based on actually shooting them, the SR9 won out in the comfort department. Pretty much a no frills gun. Slim, holds 17 rounds per mag, inexpensive, goes bang when I pull the trigger. I know they aren't the most popular around here, but I've had zero issues with a few thousand rounds through mine.

The glocks felt...brickish and off in my hands. I don't deny that they aren't great firearms. However, they didn't fit me.

I've got the Steyr M9 and it's a fine gun but the Glocks have a better feeling trigger in my opinion. When I got my Steyr, it was $150 less than the Glocks.

have you ever own a sigma? or shoot it enough to say that? i trust more the trigger in a sigma than a glock.

I hated the sigma with a passion. I am not a fan of the looks and I despise the trigger. I have to take my time with the trigger on one or I pull the shot every time. In a quick pull and fire in a situation where I need it I think the attacker would most likely be missed entirely or shot in the thigh...

I would just save for the G19.

"have you ever own a sigma? or shoot it enough to say that? i trust more the trigger in a sigma than a glock. "

Yes to one of the questions above and hippiemagic said it all.

To me the trigger pull is not a safety it is a component of shooting well and the sigma's trigger is not good. If you need the trigger to be a safety then by all means get the sigma.

To me a $200 throw in the car gun and forget about it and don't care if its stolen gun = Sigma

I had a CZ-75B Compact that stovepiped like crazy shooting regular Blazer 9mm ammo, this gun jammed like nothing I had never seen before. I called the Mike the CZ gunsmith at CZ-USA in K.C., hoping to get an RMA to send the gun back, and the only thing he told me was to avoid the Blazer ammo in this gun. I was p!ssed that he blew me off like that, and I'm not keeping a pistol that is ammo-sensitive, especially with the shortage of 9mm factory ammo. I have three other "niners" that run Blazer without a hiccup, including a BHP and even a Springer Loaded 9mm, so I traded off the CZ Compact for a G-17, and since then, not a single hiccup with the Blazer ammo in 500+ rounds

Smith and Wesson model 6906 will be smaller than the 19, and very concealable, and still give you 13 rounds of 9mm +p.
They will be in the $400 or less range.
Otherwise, get the Sigma. They can be made to be very good for very little work/time/money.

When I shot the sigma I found that in order to get the gun to fire my index was about as far behind my other fingers as it could possibly get. I would also have to compensate by intentionally moving my hand to release a good grip on the firearm because it released the striker WAY too far back. This makes it nearly impossible to avoid pulling the shot in high stress. I had to think WAY too much on the shot and I don't mean "Shoot or not" I mean if I was off just a little I could pull the trigger as far as possible and not even fire the gun. I don't want to have to adjust my grip in the middle of a gunfight.

It is my opinion that a firearm should ALWAYS go off before the index is behind my middle finger.

Steyr but the mags are spendy and that eats up a some of the price difference.

I would see what the used market is like in your area. I don't see glocks here for as low as $400. I don't see them everyday but I see them often enough that I would wait it out if I were in the market for one. I paid $400 for my G26.

The Sigma's are sweet. I personally went for the 2nd Glock 19 2nd Gen to back up the origional G19 2nd Gen. Can't have too much of a good thing.

There is a S&W 9mm and .40 sale at Academy Sport & Outdoor and other S&W dealers around the nation.

Their sale of S&W Sigma SW9VE & Sigma SW40VE - says "buy a Sigma from Oct. 1, 2009 through December 31, 2009, and get either a mail-in $50 rebate OR 2 free magazines".

That meant at Academy my SW40VE cost me $279 out the door with a box of shells.

There is a hard trigger pull on this gun, but some people actually like it that way.

I don't - but S&W will lighten it for free - and pay the shipping each way.

There were some problems with old Sigma's (5 to 10 years ago), but those problems have all been fixed on the new Sigma's.

I've shot mine and really like the way it handles = No problems with the new ones.

They are a great gun for $279 - $250 + tax for a gun w/lifetime warranty.
