Lowest QD rail "riser"

I'm looking for a low low low low low low QD "riser" (ironic: I'm looking for the lowest rise possible). I need to turn a non-QD optic into a QD one without jacking it up too far, so I'm basically looking for a section of rail stacked on the existing rail with a detach mechanism.

Lowest I've seen is .5", from either LaRue, ARMS, or GG&G. Does anyone know of one that is lower and, possibly, cheaper? Before anyone says that you pay for quality, yes, you do, but I don't need reliable RTZ. I just need stability when it is on and the ability to dump it quickly if I need to go to irons, and I want to keep it as low to the rail as possible.

this may be a dumb question, but your "non-qd optic" comment and "if i need to go to irons" comment has me kind of curious what you're up to that wouldn't need RTZ.

It's for a 'trunk gun' type deal. I'm, once again, fiddling with my AK setup. I have an Ultimak rail on it with an Aimpoint now, and if I cannot get this to work right, I'm just going to keep it there. But I want to replace the Aimpoint with my OKO Holosight.

The trouble is that the stupid Aimpoint is perfect, and is also, objectively, the far superior optic, in every sense except "disposability". The OKO cost me less that $150. I'd much rather have a $150 optic on the $75 rail on the $300 gun in the rack in the trunk of my car than I would have the $450 optic on the $75 rail on the $300 gun in the trunk of my car.

But the OKO blocks the irons, so if it goes TU, I need to be able to dump it. I don't need to be able to take it off/put it back once it's on there, since I can do iron-sights training with my other AK.

I'm contemplating just replacing the allen-wrench screws on the OKO with thumb screws and loctite. That would be the totally hillbilly way of doing it, it would work just fine, and I think Mikhail would approve, but I figured I'd at least ask if there was a cheap rail alternative first.

Also, the OKO is basically the perfect height right now for both cheek-weld and visibility. It can go up a little, but I would like to keep it under .5", and I'd like the mount to not cost an arm and a leg.

Look at Yankee Hill mfg. I think they make a .5 risier that is about half the cost of the others.

Any idea of one that DOES return-to-zero?

I've considered getting a "cheap" NV optic for my AR, but would NOT want to keep that thing on all the time. Ideally, it would be something that I could remove and replace as needs dictate-- (coyote problem).

LaRue is excellent, and with a flat top AR you have plenty of height to play with. Depending on what optic you have, LaRue might make on specifically for it.

The only reason I'm not going with LaRue is because I want something low and cheap and I don't need RTZ.

I think your best bet is going to be the "hillbilly" route, especially if your not worried about RTZ.

Other than an Aimpoint on a low Aimpoint ring (which is what I use on two of mine), the only other red dot I've been able to cowitness on my AK's with an Utimak, was the cheap BSA 30 or 40MM jobs with the mount on the sight.

Another thing you may want to consider, and I'm speaking from experience here, the Aimpoints have been the only dot sights I've used that actually held up to even moderate handling and bouncing around. I know what you mean about having a sight that costs more than the gun on there, but who cares, its the whole package that counts, and an AK with an Aimpoint is about perfect for me.
