M44 owners: What recoil pad do you use?

I shot 60 last week when my shooting buddies forgot their 8mm ammo and none was to be had at the store, I gave them my 40 to split. I had quite the time watching people jump after letting off with the old gal (44). Just bought the 91/30 yesterday for $100 and 2 tins of 300 Bulgarian Lt ball for $35 ea. from Weideners sorry they are out but they have heavy ball for $45. Oh and no pad here! Keep it in tight and lean into it.

I have a 91/30 and M44,dont use a recoil pad but I also dont shoot them that much...Lean forward...thats it...hold the butt of the stock tight...yep.

Butler Creek small.

Cheap, brown, and ugly... just like the gun.

Helps a lot when shooting off a rest. Standing, the gun was always tolerable, but in any sort of locked-in position, she hurt me... a lot.

I've got no idea what kind of mutant lawn gnome that stock was designed for, but it sure as heck wasn't me.

Dad???

(My last name is White. )
Sorry, keep looking. My last name isn't White, but my favorite character in one of my favorite movies was called Mr White.

I got the medium Pachmayr Decelerator Slip-On pad at wallyworld. It fits just a bit loose, which is good for me, because I can switch it between my Mosins easily.

I totally cheated

The American made stock is great and the recoil compensator really works but makes a heck of a fireball.

I once made a bet with a guy that if he could shoot a standard M44 20 rounds in 15 minutes I'd give him the rifle. He gave up after six shots.

Besides, how are you ever going to use the melee attack feature?

While I can imagine the damage that clocking someone in the head with the metal buttplate would do, the bayonet is the melee attack feature for the M44. Obviously.

Guys, this gun isn't THAT bad. It's hard when shooting from a bench, but that's about it. Just put it up to your shoulder and go for it.

20 rounds in 15 minutes? Does 30 in 7 count? All from a bench. And I'm not the biggest guy, just had a good grip on it.

Mosin recoil is really nothing bad...If it hurts to shoot it, then you are holding the rifle wrong. The butt should be in the sternal part of your pectorial muscle, not the top of it.

I attach a knife to the end of the stock so it sticks into my chest upon shooting...

Ill take that bet.

Is 44 recoil worse than 91/30 recoil?

My 44 seems to have a little less. Maybe the unburned powder going out the muzzle indicates less total propulsion/recoil?

These are know for about two feet of yellow flame in the dark, therefore, how can the recoil be as bad as with the long Mosins?

I like the shorter rifles anyway, to be quite frank.

Load light ball and it's a nice shooter. Even with heavy ball, it's not as damaging as my sporterized 1917 Enfield with 180gr loads. Work on holding it right and using the sling to help keep it planted firmly in your shoulder.

What's wrong with that nice metal "recoil plate" it comes with???

I don't use any. It prevents me from overshooting, and that's part of the fun IMHO.

I just bought a 91/30, is the recoil going to be any better?

I dont use a recoil pad, I have a m44 I like shooting it. I havent shot one of the longer ones. I think my 12 gauge kicks harder, (3") I did put a recoil pad on it though.:uhoh:

+1

how about grow a pair and just shoot he rifle. The recoil is not unmanagable. Keep it firmly planted against your shoulder.
