.45 can be Hi Cap too --Really!

My .45's have 13-14 shots-[Taurus 24/7 and 845 both have 13 total and my XDm has 14 total] So u really do not have to Always give up Hi Capacity for Caliber. I Love All my 9mm Guns also. Because recoil is less and My Wife can defend herself. I believe most 9mm Modern Premium Ammo puts you close to on Par w/.45 Caliber Defensive Capabilities and is little easier to shoot. I Voted 9mm. Because I believe 9mm is an Excellent Defensive Caliber!

The Best to All!

pffff! Don't listen to these guys! hahaha! 9mm is a fine caliber. I bet they wouldn't let you shoot them with one!

I must be the odd man out, as I carry a 9mm every day...and haven't seen a single Twilight movie...

Another thoughtful theory too is; whether you carry a 22short or a 454casull, if you are able to hit your advisory in that perfectly right spot, it might only take one shot.

Hit someone once with a perfectly placed 22short and down they go, can you agree if you are hit between the eyes, in the eye socket, in the temple, or possibly directly in the throat. That is what we strive for, a direct hit to the CNS <central nervous system>. So even with a 22short my guess is that 99% of the time your going down? No you say? Can you step back about 15ft and let me try it on you? Didn't think so.

Some people have been hit by a 22LR and it didn't even directly hit them but the bullet ricocheted off of something and it hit them in the chest, and if you don't get them to the hospital quickly and in time, and have to wait too long to be transported to the hospital, you can bled out and died, from a simple ricocheted 22LR to the chest!

So say if you hit even a drugged up dirt bag with even a 22short, long rifle, or mag even once anywhere, is it going to stop them to make them think, what the hell, long enough, to give you that split second to place a more devastating blow? Maybe? Are your odds better with a 454casull? Most likely?

And if you do hit them even once, and that one shot regardless of where it is placed, do you have enough space and time between you and your attacker(s) if you do hit them at all, how quickly are you going to get back on target to deliver a more devastating hit?

Like some of the above posters have said, one hit is better than any number of misses. But if you have more rounds at your disposal your odds might be better at hitting them then not, as long as they don't hit you first, because if they do hit first, you can have a 33 round mag and once your hit, it could be game over for you.

I decided to have my cake and eat it too.

I carry a Springfield XDCompact in 45ACP.
10 round compact magazine in the pistol as carried (OWB concealed) and 13 round magazines for when I need to reload. I really love the versatility of
this combination and it works for me.

I have a pretty decent holster and belt so the pistol is not a pain to carry. Where I put spare magazines really depends on how I am dressed but I don't notice the weight of the extra magazines after I have made it from the bedroom to my cup of coffee. I think people get used to carrying extra weight pretty quickly and won't notice an extra magazine, or two, after the first couple days. I bet after it becomes habit to carry the magazines you would only notice when you're not carrying them, that's how I am, anyway.

I carry my pistol on my right hip, so I have switched to keeping my wallet in my left back pocket. It took me longer to get used to my light weight wallet being in my left pocket than it ever has to wearing the weight of extra magazines.

So. My vote is many bullets in a heavy hitting caliber.

Considering single stack vs double stack, calibers and ammo type, choices of semi auto pistols, environments and potential threats, concealed and open carry, home defense, legality, personal experience and preferences, I choose 8 to 11 rounds of 50GI. Have no regrets when possible.:D

Sure, that may be fine for some.

After slinging a few 25mm HEIT rounds down range you would think twice about such
a light caliber.
