I am putting together a new tactical rifle on a Rem 700 SA. I have been debating between the Manners T4 and the McMillan A5.

I know this is like asking Chevy vs Ford, but I would like to hear you opinions.

I hear that the Manners is stiffer than the MCM. Supposedly for this reason they are better on a bipod. MCM though has molded in colors, while the Manners is painted with epoxy paint.

I have not handled either of these so I have no idea how they fit in the hand. I have nowhere to try them out so I will have to just order on and hope it fits.

Also I understand that the MCM is about 6-12 months wait right now? Is this correct? The Manners are about a 2 week wait.

Thanks

My shooting buddy just got a McMillan. He looked at someone's Manners and didn't like it. The MCM is nice! I didn't look at the Manners up close.

I can't imagine the MCM's stiffness an issue. The wait was an issue. He found one somewhere in stock.

Cool. I like the looks of the A5 and MCM has a long track record of producing top notch stocks. But that T4 is also looking mighty nice. From what I hear, Manners has great customer service as well.

Have you shot his MCM? Which model did he get?

Thanks

I'm almost certain it was the A-4 from looking at MacMillan's site. It had the adj buttstock for LOP & no adj cheekpiece.

I did not shoot it. He got it less than a month ago. He went to a Millet scope/MCM stock from a NC Star/Rem stock. He shot it and put 5 consecutive shots on a 3" target marker spindle @ 600 yds. The guy marking the target was impressed enough to bring the spindle to keep. I knew the crew he was shooting with and they don't impress easily. Needless to say he was very happy with the combo. He was in the USMC and always wanted that stock. One thing he specifically did not like about the Manners is it was rough on the cheekpiece. I don't know if that was stock or an owner modification though.

I did like the MCM stock but would need a higher cheek piece. Cheek pieces on rifles tend to be low for me. I did spend some time behind it. I can see why people buy the MacMillans.

This in no way is a slight against the Manners as I had never looked closely at one. I know someone with one and another guy with an Accuracy International.

I have no experience with the Manners stock, but I have a McMillan M3A on my M1A. I love the stock, it's so comfortable I have to shoot my M1 at the end of a trip to the range, otherwise I start to think about swapping all my stocks for McMillans. Mine has the adjustable cheekpiece and 3-way butt-pad. I'm tall, skinny and have a long neck, so most stock don't fit me very well. The difference between the M3A and my other stocks is night and day. The wait was only about 2 months, but that was several years ago. I'd call McMillan and ask how long it would take. Regardless of which one you pick, I would definitely recommend some loc-tite for the cheekpiece screws, they have a tendency to shake themselves loose with recoil. I'm sure both stocks will perform very well.

Do you guys think that the adjustable cheekpiece is worth the extra money? My rifle does not have one now, nor do I need one on that HSP Stock.

I really would have figured this would have got more replies. Seems like there are plenty of tactical shooters around here that must be using one of these. Maybe no one uses MCM's and have moved to the AICS.

i'm in the same process, between a Manners, McMillan and AI.
don't think you can go wrong with either.

the hard part is that i want it NOW

I know this is an old post but I kind of had the same question on selection of a stock. I am leaning toward the Manners T-5 or the McMillan A-5.

I have been happy with both brands in the past but never had either of these models.

I have two McMillan a5 and will post some pics when I get home. I like them a lot but I wish I had two manners t4a though. The manners is made from a shell that is filled (I got to your their factory about two months ago). They have more forearm options and a folder option too that is REALLY nice.

Manners also offers a mini chassis which means you don't need bottom metal or glass bedding.

I am slightly biased due to tom manners sponsoring my matches and team.

the mcmillan are ok because they happen to be configured exactly like i want, and they may have more options, but i know the manners are very configurable in terms of the butt hook, straight bottom, sloped bottom, etc. i forget what all the names/numbers are but you can get them in pretty much any combination of rear and forearm

I have to agree with taliv on this one, the mcm are nice stocks but my new rifle wears a Manners t4a
