I have recently acquired an 1895 and an 1894P Marlin, and neither is drilled and tapped for a receiver sight.

It's been a while since I've owned a Marlin, but as I recall the ones I had before were drilled and tapped. When did this Marlin make this change?

I just got an 1895. I have already put scope mounts on it in the predrilled holes. It was made new in '03 so if they have stopped drilling them it would have been after then.

Both of my rifles are drilled and tapped for scope mounts; it's the necessary holes for a receiver sight that are missing.

Mine did!

My 1894C I got for Christmas came tapped already, and it even comes with an off-set hammer you can install if you want to use a scope.

Looking at Marlin's website, it says that the 1894PG(not sure it's the same as an 1894P or not) and the 1895L come tapped for scopes...

maybe yours are older?

heh-heh

Just read your second post, Bob...

Hmmm...looking at my 1894C, I don't see a palce on the reciever for mounting another set of rear sights...I guess that is what you are asking for. My rear sights are on the barrel...gives me a sight radius of about 14 inches I would guess...

Near as I can tell, it doesn't look like ANY Marlins have reciever mounted sights..

Marlin stopped drilling the side of the reciever at least 15 years ago. Both Williams and Lyman have redesigned their reciever sights to fit on the top and screw down into the scope mount holes. They still produce a sight to be mounted on the side if you want to have the holes drilled and tapped. I prefer the Tang sight made by Marbles. Shoot and enjoy.

Marlin still drills and taps for scopes.

Marlin quit drilling and tapping for side mount receiver sights a year or so ago. I'm pretty sure about the timeframe because there was quite a hullaballoo on the Marlin forum when it happened.

If you want a rear aperture sight there are ones available that use the rear scope mount screw holes.

Ashley Outdoors (Xpress Sights), Wild West Guns and Williams are a few makers you can check out for top-mounted aperture sights.
