Meth Laws: More Security Theatre

pax, have you tried the Sudafed PE? It's not regulated AFAIK and it works as well as the regular Sudafed, for me anyway.

The most dangerous thing about meth...

I would just assume to let them make it and take as much as they want until that part of the population is adequately selected out. But, and a big BUT is

The worst part of the meth problem that no one talks about is all the toxic aftermath of a garage or basement lab. Also the frequent fires and hazards that spread the toxins.

Things like anhydrous ammonia. This is one of the most noxious chemicals on the planet, look it up and see what it does to living tissues. The methheads (while high no doubt) steal this stuff from gas supply houses and store it in old bbq tanks with unregulated pressures. Now you have enough gas to poison several neighborhood blocks, overpressure, in an old propane tank in a methheads garage. I think that is more to worry about than the kiddies huffing gas.

Now, when they are through, where do you think they put their waste? Surely you don't think that they dispose of it as responsible citizens through a toxic waste program. They wash it down the sink or dump it in the backyard where it gets in YOUR drinking water.

Before you buy a second hand house (or even a new one for that matter, you dont know what someone did in the short time it was empty) you better have it tested for meth contamination. A toddler crawling across a floor used for meth production, even if "clean" can suffer serious nuerological damage.

What about the methhead that uses a halogen lamp in a PLASTIC bucket as a heat source and burns down many homes while spreading his filth.

I agree that regulating the medicines is pitiful and is not the way to approach the problem. The labs must be rigorously sought out, shut down, cleansed and the users prosecuted.

I like wine and make it, drink it and enjoy it. Wine, beer, shine and tobacco may have their problems but all the waste is biodegradeable and relatively safe to be around and dispose of. Meth is the EPA's wet dream.

The fact remains...

Were it not for the "drug war" against cocaine and pharmaceutical-grade amphetamines no one would be making meth in basements. Probably no one would be making it at all; it might not have even been invented.

I grew up in the 80's with just say no. It was cheaper to make up a slogan than to do actual funding.

I wish we would go back to that. IMO the less money the government is wasting the better.

I've been hoping for middle eastern and south east Asian laws on drug use. Take them out and shoot them. But because of the Constitution and Bill of rights it won't happen.

Yeah because we should murder people for putting a substance into thier own body.

Actually people have been making meth illegally since the 60's, At least in trend-setting california they have. It just took awhile to spread to the rest of the country.

We already have the stupid law in my state, it doesn't do anything but provide political posturing for our elected thieves.

Gov Jim Doyle vetoed a bill this last year that required a photo ID for voting purposes (In Wisconsin, you don't need to provide any form of proof to show that are who you say you are to vote, and democratic vote fraud is rampant) because it would hurt and disenfranchise the pooor, the elderly, and the disabled.

Not a month later he signed a bill to require photo ID to buy cold medicine in our state. :banghead: :cuss:

So in Wisconsin, if you want to vote multiple times in multiple places, you can do so, no ID is required. If you have a runny nose, a cold, or allergies and don't have your alid photo ID on you, you're S.O.L.

phenylalanine
Hmmm, phenylalanine can be used to make meth instead of pseudoephedrine?

Next year, you'll be registering with the government and showing ID to buy Diet Pepsi. Sheesh.

(Aspartame/"NutraSweet" is a conjugate of phenylalanine and aspartic acid, for those who don't know.)

My wife and I both depend on pseudoephedrine to manage chronic sinus issues and sinus headaches. Between us, we go through quite a bit, and it's getting a lot harder to get.

If Wal-Mart eventually discontinues it due to the hassle, we are going to be SERIOUSLY inconvenienced.

Sudafed PE
If this stuff is just as good, why did no one sell it until pseudoephedrine was restricted? That to me suggests that the other drug is either a less effective substitute or has more drawbacks...though I'd be willing to hear more...

The supplies, including matches, charcoal, anti-freeze, coffee filters, aluminum foil, and cat litter,

Hmm, let's see:
One box of Sudafed in the medicine cabinet with 1..2..3 tablets left.
Matches - some in the kitchen cabinet above the fridge and on the mantle above the fireplace.
Charcoal - 3/4 of a bag out on the back porch by the grill.
Anti-Freeze - 1 and 1/2 gallons out in the garage (next to the washer fluid, oil, brake and power steering fluid bottles).
Coffee Filters - In the kitchen cabinet above the coffee maker.
Aluminum Foil - Enough to make helmets for about 15-20 people, in the drawer with the Saran Wrap and Baggies.
Cat Litter - about 1/4 bag in the garage (no cat, but useful for oil and other fluid spills/drips/leaks).
Propane - 3 1/2 small bottles next to the other camping stuff out in the garage.

HOLY CRAP, I'M A METH LAB !!!!! (NOT)

This would be funny except for the fact that about month or so ago our local paper printed a rather longish story about our heroic local sheriff and his uber tactical SWAT team who brazenly setup a sting operation in which he nabbed four or five convenience store employees, including one store manager !!!, who had recklessly violated the state's newly passed anti-meth laws by having Sudafed and other cold medicines STILL OUT ON THE SHELVES of their stores !!!

Yep, good use of my tax dollars to arrest, try and convict some poor schmuck going to the the local community college and paying for it by earning minimum wage working 3rd shift at the neighborhood Frozen Chicken (aka White Hen).

Hey Zaruba, take down an actual Meth Lab or two and you might get my vote. In the meantime, given your Pro-AWB stance and this farce, I'll be campaigning for your opponent.

Hold it right there! When they start gummint controls of foil, I know a bunch of THRers that'll find themselves at the end of the awkward stage.

Are you so sure about that? I used to be. Now, I think the majority would just grumble slightly and go along with registration lists to purchase foil. After all, it's only giving up a little essential liberty to purchase the illusion of security.

The madness will not stop so long as people remain afraid of themselves. That's the only logic I can see behind the drug war - people who are afraid they or their loved ones might take drugs if they were legal. God forbid people should be free to make difficult choices.

Beren +1

See, if they brought back the original Coca-Cola in the 6 1/2 oz bottle, for 5 cents, the one that had cocaine in the formula remember...
We most likely would not have a "drug problem".

IIRC - I dont' believe folks were wired out, dying off heart problems and such back then. We got folks on high caffiene colas and energy drinks doing more damage.

Kids doing these drinks along with meds they don't need 'cause teachers cannot teach, or conduct a classroom..."your kids needs dope to behave in my class".

Pattern to this Gov't Meddlin' under the pretense of taking care and make folks safer.

Bring back the original nickel Coke I say.

That ought to really piss off kickbacks, gubmint programs and the dope heads..."business is bad, look at what they get for a nickel in the soda machine..."

I've said before...

Get a big area out in the middle of nowhere. Invite all the Meth, and whatever drug criminals to go there and do what all they want. Cook up whatever they want. Give'em guns, plenty of ammo.

Gang too, you wannabe, a gangbanger - here ya go...need a gun, here's your nine.

Now, they stay in this area, they attempt to leave - shot on sight, no warning.
Inside , anything goes. They are on their own. I mean they accept these terms and take full responsibility.

They start raping, mugging, each other, their problem. They start shooting each other, they deal with it. At least one out there can figure out how to use a bulldozer and shovel in the dead in the big hole.

In time, they kill each other off. Folks on the outside thinking about how nice all this drugging and killing is...either decide not for them, or they enter into - eventually die too.

Give 'em enough rope to hang themselves. Go a bit quicker with no meddlin' and the lure of all this fun dies out...pehaps literally, still dies out.

I mean they let folks die in Opium dens...

Nope,

1)
Waited with baited breath with a friend, her roomate worked in a Prison. Roomate was in said prison during Prison Riot and Prisoners took over part of the Prison.
Roomate was a female Psychologist, and we had no idea where she was, or if one of the hostages.

I listened very intently as she related her story once all this was over. She was safe, and managed to get other staff to safety. The mindset of the criminal when they actually have free range, and must interact with others of like kind in a Riot or Mob mentality was facinating.

2)
Know thy enemy...

Attended a fru fru affair of Democrats. I even dressed to the nines, diamond ring, and a Patek on my wrist. Oh...ivory stocks on the Combat Commander...
Talk about a bunch of thugs ...dressed nice...still thugs. Ruthless and will eat their own young in a heartbeat.
Don't care what the media says, or the pictures appear to say...in the smokey rooms where deals with the devil are made...ruthless!

Just observing and taking notes on this Natural Order of Things was all...;)

{sarcasm}

We must ban/control/license pooping, as anyone is capable of collecting said material ie poop, and with little setup could culture e-coli and use that substance as a biological agent...

{/sarcasm}
