MidwayUSA issues?

Larry used to send me birthday discount emails. I wrote to him and explained that I had relatives all around the country who usually sent me gift money and those cards didn't always arrive before my birthday, wouldn't be nice if the discount certificate didn't expire on my birthdate and why not extend the deadline out to one week after. Since I'd likely find shooting related items to purchase, having this policy changed would ensure my purchasing from MWUSA, but since I wouldn't receive all the gifts in time I was reluctant as I wouldn't know the final amount I had to spend. He personally wrote back and said that they had never encountered a request like this before and so the birthday discount policy would remain the same and expire on the customer's birth date. They can flood my email box daily with monthly customer discounts but cannot see fit to adjust the expiration date of the birthday discount a week, the decision just didn't sit well with me.

Here's an idea: Adjust your birth date to better suit the date you'd prefer to receive the discount. It shouldn't matter to them when you were born.

(This may be a moot point based on info earlier posted) While the above idea may be an option for some, that's not going to happen in my case. I will not compromise my core values just to attain a discount on some merchandise. When encountered this issue, many years ago, I did what I thought was the right thing by making a suggestion to the CEO that not only benefited my particular situation but also potentially could've boosted company's public relations position with its customer base. After all, the reason for the discount in the first place was to advertise the company wares to its customers. If they decided not to take that suggestion then I have the right to just shop elsewhere, not lie or cheat to achieve an end goal. I can respect their position not to change and I can live with my decision to patronize elsewhere with my gift monies.

+1 on the ethical stance Bullseye. Besides, if they somehow noticed that someone was moving their birthday around, don't you think they would interpret this as abusing the priviledge.

On a related note, I just got a call from my brother on Monday, apologizing for his having to send me a late Christmas present. He went to Midway too, and had ordered an 1911 Commander length holster for me, but Midway shipped him a 5" gov't model. He spilled the beans to me on the present, asking if a Commander will fit into a full size holster (he's not that into firearms, but knows I've gotten back into 1911s).

He took a screenshot of the on-line chat exchange he had with a Midway CS rep - it was hilarious and aggravating at the same time - the CS rep insisted that since a commander can fit into a full size 1911 holster, there was no problem, and that Midway did not have wrong info on the product listing, even though the packaging my bro received said "for 5" Government models". The CS rep also typed that there was no such thing as a Commander length holster, nobody makes one. After what I went though last week, I thought this was priceless.

He emailed me a picture of the label, and it indeed was clearly marked as a full size 5" holster. But I told my bro that I would be thrilled by the present, in any case he has 90 days to return it. I was bemused by all this, but my brother was pretty agitated, as he runs major sales and CS teams, and this apparently frosted his professional sensibilities.

But, is this the new sales standard? So when I go into Macy's for a size 38 pants, they should say take a size 44, since you can "fit into it"? LOL.

I just think this is getting funny at this point, it looks like a family affair with Midway.

Great service for me

I made an order on Friday on evening 12/19 and it was delivered on my door step on Monday 22. All safe and sound and exactly what I ordered. Even with fact I live in Missouri, that is pretty darn good shipping time. Price was comparable to anywhere else on internet. I did have to pay sales tax since I live in Missouri, but, I dont mind supporting my state.

I've already posted what I thought about Midway earlier in this thread, but here is another example of why I don't order from them.

This past Monday (2 days ago) I looked to them for MR FA Baby Eagle mags for my PPQ. Midway wanted $31.99 each, and $8.99 for them to be delivered in a timely fashion.

Buds (love 'em) had the exact same mags for $21.16 each. 1/3 less than good 'ol Larry at Midway.

So I ordered 3 of them, and a Walther 15+2 mag ($33.98) from Bud's.....and they arrived today - 2 days after I placed the order. And I didn't have to go through some gimmicky pick your shipping like with Midway.

Midway is now on the same level as CTD, forgoing the Obama scare(s).

I haven't ordered in awhile from Midway, usually because I can get it for less elsewhere.
However- I did place an order this morning for an item I couldn't find in stock elsewhere- they claim they will ship tomorrow and I'll have it on Monday, which I doubt, as their chart shows 4-5 days.

If it does show up on Monday I'll be very impressed!

Added in edit- UPS tracking shows delivery Tuesday instead of Midway's estimated Monday. Still not bad considering I did not pay for 2nd day.

One reason I do purchase from them is occasional really good prices in addition to them having what I want, when I want it. I just today received an order for three blued Mec-Gar 13 round Browning Hi-Power magazines. They were $22.99 each and S&H was $3.99. They're gone now; glad I got mine.

Sometimes a blind hog will root up an acorn. I shop around for highest value to me; not necessarily lowest cost.

All things considered, they've done right by me over the years. Not perfect, but then this is the season to recognize the only perfect person if you've a mind to.

I had good service and delivery from Midway when I ordered a few weeks ago.

No problems ever

I have ordered from Midway usually once a month sometimes more for a few years and never had one issue. Looks like it is just you. Bellyaching to already overstressed CS sometimes gets those results, try considering that next time. :)

I had an issue, I am hoping it gets resolved. Something that was back ordered months ago, I called in and had my address updated. They still shipped it to the old address, and even "verified" that the conversation did happen, and the notes did indicate a change of shipping address was in order.

They did correct it (after I called), and said that if the post office doesn't forward it, then they will re-ship it to the correct address once its returned to them. The real question here, is what if someone else at the old address takes possession of it.

I haven't had any real struggles getting a hold of customer service, and they have been honest that the mistake happened. So we will see what happens over the next week, it just sucks that now its floating around in a shipping tornado. If all ends well, I will make sure to update with correct information. Its also a bit frustrating that I had to catch this via a shipment confirmation email, and contact them to let them know what they did. That this wasn't caught in house, but it also happened to ship the day before Christmas so I'm sure tensions were high all over, and people were working very hard.

Mistakes happen, two important things happened here. It was caught (one way or another), and a valid attempt to correct it has been made. Also that they were honest they made a mistake and owned up to it. That is worth a lot in my book.

For a first post, seems a little like trolling.......or are you invested in Midway somehow??

I have noticed that their normal prices aren't usually the best, so I shop their sales. Never had a problem with their CS. Their shipping policy is better now than it used to be for sure. They didn't gouge like other retailers (CTD) during the last run on guns.

I ordered a tritium front sight for an AK and a sight adjustment tool from them last week. Got both yesterday. Good service the whole way through.

They also used the UPS to USPS service, which explained the longer shipping time. Even with that, it arrived yesterday, three days before UPS estimated.

Satisfied customer.

I recently purchased some a few days after my birthday and was surprised to get the birthday discount. They seem to have a window of a few days either way.
