MidwayUSA issues?

I run into your description often with midway.

I think it's gotten so big it's truly hit and miss. I only use them if I can't find it somewhere else. I prefer brownells for gun parts and tools and many other places for ammo and accesorries.....so midway has little to offer me.......but im sure there is someone with a backwards experience from mine.

I've noticed that over the past year or so, that their prices aren't nearly as good as they used to be - and their shipping methods, and costs, have also changed for the worse.

Bums me out, because I like supporting Missouri businesses......but they need to stop making CTD look good.

Their shipping prices have been reduced greatly in the last several months.

I've bought 3000 rounds of mini mags from them this past 2 months all went well except for one order of 500 rounds. Those showed up in a beat to hell and back box, the plastic ammo cases in side were crushed to pieces. I don't blame them for that, the shipper must have played kickball with it on the docks.

I've been dealing with Midway for many years; since before they had a website. Satisfied the vast majority of the time but up until lately never had anything good to say about their S&H costs. They seem to have fixed that pretty much.

A few years back I ordered a couple of thousand .22Long Rifle ammunition and it came all loose in a very big box. I complained, sent pictures and got refunded my shipping cost.

All companies have bad days just like people do.

I have had problems last several couple of orders with poor packing.

In the worst case, I ordered a pint size tin can of grease and some other small items. It was all placed loose in a bubble envelope. No effort was made to individually bag any component, and no effort to double bag the grease. No effort was made to put clips on the can to insure that the lid didn't come off.

Most other suppliers, such as Brownell's for example, would have done much better in a similar case.

The lid came off and grease was all inside the bag and on everything else. The can was all dented up. It took quite some time to clean up the mess and to put the grease back in the can where it should have been upon delivery and to clean the grease off the other stuff. Fortunately, the grease stayed inside the bubble envelope.

What or were they thinking?

I would characterize that as somewhere on the scale between inattentive and incompetent.

On the plus side, it looks like Midway is making a sincere effort to reduce their former excessive shipping costs.

I have ALWAYS had better pricing and service elsewhere; their inventory seems overstocked on some things and always out of stock on others

I was mistaken. CTD appears to still sell firearms and ammo, although I was unable to find the tab on the side of the page, and instead had to search using the item name. Anyway.

Midway had been great for me. Prices are sometimes lower sometimes high.

The only issue I have with MidwayUSA right now is that when i go to look at my orders, I see the one that shipped on Friday. But the tracking number is nowhere to be found! I have 2 ways to look at my invoice, but no tracking number for the shipment. I just see "Shipped" and when I click that, it tells me about the various steps in the order process.

Weird.

Had to search my email on my phone to find the tracking number.

The only problem I've had with Midway is they won't ship ammunition to any Illinois address (I'm NOT in Cook County) because they don't have a facility to save a copy of our FOID cards, which is all they need to do.

Not to say they necessarily have the best prices but once in a while I buy something else from them and want to put something else in the box to spread out the shipping charges a little, maybe.

Geez. I rarely buy ammo from Midway, but usually pick up stuff like range bags, clothing items, magazines, holsters and pistol bags when they're on sale -- you just can't beat their prices on that stuff; it's excellent quality and eminently practical. Often, Midway will have really good prices on stuff I don't really need, but I'll order it anyway because the prices are good. The shipping is normally very fast, and I've had awesome customer service over the phone.

No complaints from me.

Still waiting on the Winchester 22lr. rds. I ordered in December of 2013!

I wanted to like Midway. I really did. In years past, they've been great. They got a great deal of my business - in the past. Larry has been a great ambassador for our endeavor. IMHO, however, they've gotten "too big for their britches." They seem to have forgotten their roots. I've had increasing issues with them over the last few years.

The straw that broke the camel's back was their recent backorder cancellations. They had promised me by email that their prior policy of cancelling year-old backorders was no longer in effect. In short they realized they were upsetting customers. So what did they do six months later? Cancel my backorders despite their promise. I would have happily considered a price increase being passed on to me; I wouldn't have expected them to absorb increases in their costs. I just wanted to keep my place in line. But no, they went back on a promise and without fanfare cancelled backorders.

Yep, before you ask, these were for 22 LR. I won't go there; we all know the troubles with 22 LR these days. My point is that they didn't hold to their word. For me, that's about ethics; plain and simple. Midway, IMHO, showed their true colors.

Graf's and Midsouth by comparison, haven't "gotten too big for their britches." They get all of my business now.

I'm done with Midway. :neener:

They do in fact refuse to ship to ammunition to Illinois regardless of whether is is legal locally. They also refused to ship a cap and ball revolver here. Even refused to send it to my FFL, claiming it was illegal to do so. I think that was the straw that broke it with me. I'll deal with them only if I absolutely CAN'T get it anywhere else.

Well, having started this thread, I'll say that I'm not done with Midway, and already found a few things I want to order, but I absolutely will shy away from doing any orders in the Nov-Dec timeframe. Too crazy around the holidays, and they can't keep up (not a slam - I'm glad their doing good business, they just don't handle spikes in business very smoothly, like a lot of companies).

I did get an order placed, but the items are shipping separately - one was placed "on hold" for a few days. I tried to run that down, and my conversations pretty much confirmed what a few folks noted, Midway is probably using seasonal temp employees to bulk up CS and fulfillment. I called to inquire why the item was "on hold", and got several different answers -

- Answer #1 the item "may be out of stock" - reasonable, I guess, though I ordered an in-stock item.
- Answer #2 - "oh, they must be giving your item a special check to make sure its packaged right and works OK." Hmmmm. Yes, well, if Larry Potterfield is personally inspecting and wrapping my item, that's OK by me LOL.
- Answer #3 was the best - "honestly, I have no idea." Cudos for honesty, at least! Best response of the day.

So, one item is going standard UPS ground, and should be here in a couple of days, while another is going UPS postal innovations, and should be here after Christmas, unfortunately, according to tracking.

Larry must be a great guy, he sends me a Happy Birthday email and when I place an order I get emails letting me know they're working hard to get my order out.

Never had to "call" CS, their website seems pretty informative to me and after I've figured out how to order (wait for it to be reduced) I've been buying ammo and very pleased with the deals.

Ordered 5000rds of MiniMags last Dec (2013) order went from in stock - ready to ship, to backordered over a 3 day period. OK they over sold. Twice in the past year they've had MiniMags for sale limit 500 on their web site ?? So I called and asked "isn't this what I ordered" and they told me they didn't get any case lots in. REALLY? So did they ship a pallet of 100rd boxes all loose? I've kept the back order as it was a good price and may be someday I'll get it.

My gripe with Midway is the hybrid shipping they use where UPS delivers to the post office instead of your house. Adds days to the delivery time and tracking is useless.

Funny thing about that...I'm pretty sure they just switched to that this year as an option in an attempt to fix one of the biggest gripes people have had about Midway...shipping prices.
