U.S. Army 3 years (67-70)

1 year Vietnam (68-69) 1st MI BN (Aerial Reconaissance and Surveillance)

Issued M14 and M16. Also, M1911A1, M12 and M79. Loved the M14, came around to respect the M16.

The M16 is a good platform, if it could have been 5% bigger with a 6mm projectile and a little bit larger case on a bit larger frame but not a large as an AR-10 with 25 round mags I would have been happier.

I did a company, Battalion, Brigade, and Division change of command in one month. I couldn't forget it if I wanted to.

They issued us M1911s for the parade (?!) and we sat on the parade field comparing makes and models. I remember mine was an Ithaca.

Cant stand the m16/m4 - tried no lube, light lube, heavy lube on them and they all crap out.

Corporal

Royal Australian Army Ordnance Corps 1982-90

I was lucky, never had to go to the "two way shooting range"

L1A1 SLR (an absolute bloody workhorse, loved 'em)
L1A2 AR (loved "big sweetheart")
L4A4 7.62 Bren (liked it, but not as much as the AR)
M60 (the pig, heavy, but very comforting)
M16 (nice little play-toy, can I have my SLR back now?)
F1 SMG (probably useful for something, not sure what)
L9A1 SLP (Browning HP) (I'd carry it if I really had to)
M26 Frag Grenade (loved 'em)

I never had an issue with any of the weapons. They are all fond in my memories, and have started collecting neutered/civilian counterparts, where possible. (Haven't found a civvy Mk 19 yet :D )

4. M4, M16 A4, M9, M240B, M2, m203, and Mk19.

I loved all my weapons, I always kept them very very clean and never had any issues with them. The only weapon I did not like was the Mk19. I hated being up in the turret with that beast and not having anything I could be more percise with other than my M4. While I was never a M249 gunner, it was hands down my favorite weapon.

Neat was the M16 that Ft. Sam had for the training bataions, M16 nothing, had to waste banks at the end of training, my only FA rifle expiernce

M9, not really impressive
MK19 Fun to shoot, but was happy I was a medic so I never had to maintain it
M240B Great gun

First off, thank all of you for your service to this country.
Don't know if this is really applicable to me in my scenario, but here it is anyway.

1. E1 for now - I'm currently a cadet at the University of Kansas, so we are all 09R E-1 on the pay scale.

4. M16A2 and A4, 2x4 in my M1940 weapon case at jump school ;)

I have no complaints on the M16, but I also don't have any actual experience with one either. Punching paper, pop up range and running hundreds of STX lanes and battle drills with blanks. I constantly get double feeds and jams with the blanks, so I've gotten alright at clearing a jam quickly but that's about it.
As for the 2x4, I did get it thrusted in my side when I couldn't get my weapons case to drop on my last night jump!

4. On watch carried a 1911. Supplied with Match Grade 1911 and M-14 when participating in PACFLT Rifle & Pistol Matches.

In our armory there were 2 M-14s with a selector switch. The others were semi-auto only. When you consider the level of firearms training provided to Sailors, this is probably a good thing.

I don't really like or dislike the M16/AR15. I just like heavier weapons more. The M14/M1a platform is just the bees knees IMO. And the M60 is just some kind of wonderful when it opens up and starts talking.

Originally trained as a Weapons Controller, ie, a radar operator who directs a fighter/interceptor to an airborn target. Assigned to airborne warning and control ( early AWACS, without computers, just radar screen and circular slide rule type "attack computer") Finally transfered into medical service as Pharmacist where I spent the rest of my service.

4. What's a weapon? Because we don't have a combat mission, we're neither issued nor trained on weapons (unless we go to the Sandbox to be a health attaché). But I've been deployed on just about every major disaster in CONUS for the last two or three years (hurricane Dean '07; midwest floods in June '08; hurricanes Gustav, Ike and Omar in '08; Buffalo plane crash '09).

4. Issued the M16-A2, familarization fire (FAM Fire) for the M9 and M1911A1 for armory custodian duty in Okinawa, and during boot camp and MCT fired the M249, M60E3, and Mk-19. We ran out of ammo before I could fire the M2.

Hell in 3rd Brigade at Fort Benning we had to sing it every morning before PT. Then they played that old "Im a sledge hammer" rock song at the end of PT over the loud speakers.
