Local shop has some stainless Mini -14s with synthetic stock trade ins from a local sheriff's department for $499. They look okay and I doubt they were fired much.

Opinions?

Probably the older skinny barrel ones. Might be OK, most likely not been fired much, unless you get so unlucky as to get one from the Academy Range locker. :)

My old "skinny barrel" Mini 14 is a great gun. Super reliable and lots of fun. Is it a target gun? Not a chance. 3 to 5 MOA depending on the load. More than good enough to defend me and mine though.

That is a good price. Assuming the internals looked good, I would bye another if I ran into that deal. Never hurts to have a "loaner" on hand.

I know the county they came from. My understanding is these were not range guns or Swat guns, but used by regular patrol officers. So I'm figuring they have relatively low round count.

I'll go back and look at one more closely.
