Local shop has an s&w model 10 snub nose with stag grips. The frame is square butt; I would like to buy the gun and round the corners of the butt to create a round butt grip. Can i grind/sand/file the stag grips to match the frame as rounded? Never did this before, and unsure if the effort could cause cracking, breaking, or other problems with the grips?
Thank you

Are you contemplating converting the square butt frame to a round butt THEN doing the same to the stag grips ?
Won't you need a host round butt frame to template to the square butt frame? Or just free-hand the conversion with the grips attached to the square frame?

Well since the grips come with the gun, give it a go. IF it doesn't work out, after markets are available.

Looking at my 1955 pre-model 10's the radius of the back strap on the round butt seems slightly different, i.e. more material
is required across the grip screw from front to back, than the square butt grip. The frame grip pin locations seem the same. Good luck, report back.
