Hey guys, I have a question. I rescued a Mossberg 183k-a bolt 410 from the gun store a while back. It is a 3" gun, and functional. The stock is a little rough, as is the finish, and it is missing the external thread on choke.
It patterns terribly as is, and since I have little experience with 410, and less with external chokes, would it be worth while to get an original choke, or cut it down an inch and internally thread it for screw in chokes? Or just use it as a smooth bore slug gun?

I am 50 bucks into it, and I don't need it for a specific job, just figured it never hurts to have another grouse gun around.

So what do you all think?

FWIW....
I bought a full choke .410 870 to hunt quail over dogs. I was getting either featherburgers or clean miss. I had it bored out to .408. No noticeable difference in patterns in my non-scientific tests
Just my experience....
I would just cut it off and install a new bead. You could shoot slugs in it too.

Having it set up for internal chokes, if you can find someone set up to do it, would likely set you back 3X what you have in the gun. There are ways to put a little choke in the barrel after you cut off the threads but if you don't have a lathe and a torch it would be hard.
