Nice choice of scope and mounts. Definitely have an accurate rifle there going by that first 3 shot group. Enjoy.

The irons were a selling point to me. I may not shoot them a lot but I like knowing I have the option. The only negative to them is that I think I will have to go with high rings to get the scope out of the way of the rear sight. I'm thinking of a Redfield Revolution 2-7 with Warne Quick Detach rings.

I like the idea of lapping the bolt lugs. What compound did your buddy use? The bolt is real difficult to open after firing. Much more so than my other centerfire rifles.
no need to lap the bolt lugs it uses the floating bolt head like the savage with 100% contact. the cheapest and best system there is regardless of how much you pay for another action

My New MVP Patrol

I picked up a MVP Patrol with flash hider last week. Found one at a great price, just under $500. I wanted a economical scout type rifle and this fit the bill nicely. Haven't had the chance to shoot it yet, but cleaned/oiled it up, and have been researching optics. I'll likely get a UTG CQB Bug Buster 3-9x32, not too expensive and all I'll need for local range fun. The Patrol is surprisingly light (especially with just a loaded 10rd mag) and should pack easily. Can't wait to sight it in.

I'd been looking for an MVP for a while (primarily the Patrol model), but could not find a new one anywhere. I found (and purchased) a very lightly used Predator model with the 20" barrel. It's actually a pound lighter than the 18.5", because its a lighter contour barrel and I like the way it balances and handles.

I love the IDEA of this rifle. The iron sights, AR magazines, 223, etc. I've just heard too many disappointing stories about them and this one does not seem to be working 100 percent correctly either. Brass should not be hitting your rifle on ejection. The little flap hanging below the bolt to pick up the rounds from the mag doesn't exactly inspire confidence either. I wish someone could build a better version of this mousetrap.

I agree. It would have taken a little more R&D to create a bolt shape with a permanent solid extension to grab the next round -- and then reshaped the receiver to have a channel to accommodate the shape. (I'm not sure how clear I am in that description, but basically I don't understand why it would be difficult to have a more solid (permanent) design rather than the "clever" solution they came up with.)

The heavy barrels and the ability to take 20 and 30 round magazines implies this is a rifle that is designed for heavy use. Personally, I'm just waiting for mine to break. It can take a solid push on the bolt to get the first few rounds out of a fully loaded 30 round magazine, that little spring loaded tab has its work cut out for it. I've never broken a bolt action rifle before in thousands of rounds of shooting over the last decade, I've always appreciated the simple solid feel of a good bolt. I suppose that's part of my reason for owning them.

In general, it's a great concept -- short thick barrels, AR magazines, etc. -- and I'd bet the average shooter who shoots a few boxes of ammo a year through it will probably be satisfied with it. For anyone (like myself) looking for a "bolt action AR" -- a simple strong durable reliable rifle that can stand up to heavy use -- well, this may or may not be that rifle. Time will tell. I look forward to hearing more range reports and updates as people use them more and more.

I LIKE IT !
iron sights and scope capable is the way to go.

I've been wanting one of these in .308

I recently picked up one of the Predator's with 20" light/fluted barrel.
I really like it.
The trigger wasn't as light as I'd like it. I took out the adjusting screw and cut the spring in half. It dosen't really do anything now, but its there. The trigger is about 3lbs and will require cutting open to do anything further. It's "ok" now, so I don't intend to take it apart which will require drilling out the heavy rivets/pins and might require new pins to reassemble.

I had to tweak the bedding too. I free floated it at the foward stock pad and had to shorten the rear action screw/bolt. It, when fully torqued, was touching the bolt impeding it.
After proper torqueing the action, (it was only lightly tightened from the factory) I was able to get 5-shot groups of 1moa to 1.5moa. Best accuracy came with some 55gr Sierra PtSpt (med. velocity) over 27.0gr of BLC2. One of those groups went around 7/8" with three touching.
I expect it to contine shooting better as I get a few more rounds through it.
I remounted it with a Bushnell Banner 2x-7x. (Initially, I had a 4x-16x scope on it).
I'll be hunting with it later today !!! (deer season is still in in Alabama... 2deer a day limit!).
I'll be hunting with 65gr Sierra GameKings over 26.5gr RL15. Last two I fired in sighting in (I'm down to three rounds with this bullet...) touched at 200yds, in center dot...Its good to go....(I've also got 7rds of 63gr SemiPt's loaded in 10rd magazine...). They shoot to same POI/POA at 100yds as 65gr. The do drop a little more at 200yds...

I've put a couple hundred more rounds through the MVP with zero troubles. Accuracy is still there. This is a fun gun but the real test will come this summer on the prairie dog town.

I like it! Looks like a fun rifle to have. Especially for relaxing at a bench. I do this quite a bit with a bolt .22LR. A centerfire, especially a light-kicking one with varmint hunting ability added, would be a real plus. Hmmm...something to consider.;)
