Have seen some older feedback on this gun. Seemed mixed like most OU in this price range. Curious if anyone that has it is happy with it and what other OU you compared against when you bought it. I have looked at stoeger, mossberg, and a spartan so far.

Looking for a 20 ga for clays and upland hunting.

I am curious about the same as I may be in the market for one in 28 ga soon... seems to be very mixed reviews.

I should have my Silver Reserve in 28ga in a couple of weeks. Already started collecting shells for it. The ones I have seen have all been the newer models and performed great for a shotgun in this price range. they are not red labels but decent enough to knock down doves, quail and the like.
I have had great success with the spartan line of O/U shotguns. They are not as refined as could be but that is reflected in the price. I currently only have the 410 and 12 and both handle just great for hunting.

I see your report is the last one on this gun I was wondering if you have had any of the problems reported from others on the Silver Reserve.I just bought one and would love to hear anything about this shotgun

a nice pre-owned B-gun. Forget the Mossy O/U, seriously. Mossberg pumps are good guns, their O/U's are a different story. They can't take the pounding of clay shooting...

The "early" Silver Reserves had lots of problems...

Mossberg had their importer fix the problems a few years ago (2008)...

Check and make sure your serial # is higher than:

12GA higher than TR12046393
20GA higher than TR20015092
28GA higher than TR28005777
.410 higher than TR410006194

I haven't heard of any problems on guns "after" the fix...

Other guns in the price range to look at:

New:
Lanber (from CDNN)
Charles Daly Diamond (from CDNN)
Yildiz (if you can get them in your area)

Used:
Beretta, SKB, Ithaca 600

Thanks for the info ,but do you or have you owned a Silver Reserve of your own ?I have only talked to one person that had any experience with his at the gun club here, and he loved it. He shot clays for years with NO Problems at all. I also saw where the newer made (higher ser.#'s) have had the problems fixed by Mossberg by more than one report.I really didn't buy this gun to shoot clays with as I have several other guns ,I have used for years, for that purpose.I have a problem with the weight of the firearms when hunting for a few hours because of bad shoulders,so I was looking for a gun to carry that was lighter, and the smaller 20 S.R. seems to fit the bill. I probably won't be shooting 1000's of rounds thru it and feel that for the hunting I do,it will be a good buy for the money and purpose. Still would like to hear any advise anybody can give with their experiences esp. with the 20ga Silver Resv. Thanks again !

I have a post fix 28ga Silver reserve, 3,000+ rounds without a problem. I bought it as a grouse gun, and shoot sporting clays with it on occasion. While it will never be a Perazzi, it makes a good hunting/low volume target gun. Barrels seem to be regulated well, and both throw a nice pattern.

again, they're OK to shoot on a limited basis with, but hundreds of rounds on the sporting clays or skeet ranges will prove their lack of real durability. Cheaply constructed trigger assemblies, receivers and lockups. The only cheap O/U I would even consider is a Lanber. They are not too bad...

Silver Reserve 28ga is my quail/dove/clays gun. I haven't shot it much really, maybe 2500rds, but so far...so good. Mine has a very straight stock, almost like a trap stock, which I like.

The short answer is yes, I did...

I won one of the "Ducks Unlimited 12GA/20GA Combos", here are some pics of it: http://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=143466&p=1213227#p1213227

At the time I didn't need it, I shot a couple of cases of shells through it with no problems whatsoever, the gun was fairly well balanced and with the special DU engraving, it looked fantastic!! I sold it to buy another shotgun, if I had it to do again, I might have held on to it, as I said it was a very nice looking gun...
