The title pretty much sums it up what is the most accurate 7.62x39 you have ever shot? I really like the prices of ammo and was just wondering. What size groups? What make and model? And how much did you enjoy shooting it?

Man, it's been a long while, but I remember being very impressed with it. I THINK it was some flavor of CZ bolt gun. Of course, we weren't shooting steel cased ammo. We didn't have a whole lot of glass on the rifle, maybe a 10X; but keeping it at MOA, sometimes better, wasn't too hard. I think we may have been able to do better with more glass.

I remember it because we were also shooting a Contender in .30-30 and it also surprised me with it's accuracy, being used to what I usually get out of a lever gun. I was just trying to conjure some sort of correlation between ballistics and accuracy since the 7.62X39 is so often compared to a .30-30. Ah, I'm just rambling.

In any case, the 7.62X39 is capable of some very good accuracy; out to its effective range, which isn't very far.

This little Australian Enfield carbine can shoot. Better groups off a good rest (just no camera on those days!)

I've got quite a bit of the Lapua which is the most accurate G.I. stuff I have ever shot, but the rifle still gives me 200 yard coyote acceptable groups with the 'Herters' sk ammo.

Teakwood stock makes it plenty heavy and so recoil is about like a .223 bolt gun.
I really enjoy shooting it, but so does my 13 year old nephew.
He has pretty much claimed it as his!

That looks a whole lot like an AK mag hanging out of the bottom. Tell me it isn't so.

I think it is. It's not a conversion, there's a company in Australia making and marketing new enfield type rifles. THey have one in .308 that take m14 mags.

As Tony pointed out ammo makes alot of the difference. For me the AR in 7.62x39 then the SKS and finally the AK. Optics make a difference for the AR about as much as anything when comparing shot for shot with the same ammo.

You hear guys saying the short sight radius of the AK is what makes it not as accurate but if you actually measure the sight radius in comes out to be pretty close to 14.5 inches...Measure the sight radius of a 16" AR sight radius and guess what...it is just about 14.5" also. If you watch the barrel on most AKs when being shot with high speed film there really is a lot of flex when compared to the SKS or AR. To me that is where the accuracy is better in the AR or SKS (or) maybe I am wrong on the cause and effect but it makes sense to me.

Watch the barrel of the AK..http://youtu.be/3VRrc2n0NXg..Also the above weapons in 7.62x39 are the only ones I have shot...I have always heard good things about the CZs but have no experience

I had scoped(3x9) CZ 527 Carbine that was accurate with any ammo. Easily kept 1.5-2" groups @100y with Wolf FMJ.
I've only shot my current CZ Vz58 7.62x39 for ~100 rounds with irons and MFS SP ammo, so far I'm impressed with it. I'm sure with glass(which its not getting) it would match the 527 Carbine.

JT-AR-MG42 -

That is a FINE looking rifle! I'd always wondered if anyone had made a good 7.62x39 bolt gun.

Fireman - Are those CZ 527 Carbine's in current production?

What about those Australian's?

Damnit I have enough guns I don't need to buy more... but I also have reloadable brass and 1800 projectiles for 7.62x39 .. and they're going to waste, considering handloads didn't make my AK clones shoot any better.. :)

Yep, the CZs are new current production, My shop ordered mine and it was there in about a week.

I would love to have an AIA but they are scarcer than hens teeth right now.

Both Ruger and Savage make Scout Rifles in 7.62x39 also. I have been wanting a Bolt Action that shoots this caliber for a while now. The Mini Mausers are getting scarce too. IIRC current production would be CZ, Ruger and Savage.

CZ 527 Carbine for a bolt gun
Valmet M-62 for a semi platform (kinda rare these days)
Of a 7.62x39mm AR platform....

For factory Ammo LAPUA The Cadillac of ammunition and brass.

For me the most accurate 7.62x39 was the shilen barreled Stevens 200 "bench gun" I built back around 2008.

I think its best 5 shot group measured a mere .257"

If you ho back into the archives you should finds lots of threads authored by me on this matter.

Float Pilot I disagree on the lapua brass, it just like other large primed 7.62x39 cases are quite weak compared to small primer pocket Remington. If you want to find out what this cartridge can really do its the brass you'll need

You get the idea. I had a cz527 and while accurate it wasn't this accurate. It was however the gateway drug that led to the addiction pictured above.

I want that Enfield! Where can I get one?
I laid down a deposit on one of the Aussie M10's and a Ruger Wiley Clapp GP100 on the same day a few months back at my local Cabelas. I was really taken by the quality of the M10, but as it worked out, I got home and did some Google Fu on the M10, and found they are not being made or imported any more, mainly because the teak stocks and a few other components were being made in Vietnam. But the lack of support, and the anecdotal reports of problems with feeding issues, scared me off, and I didnt want to chance it at $750, so I cancelled it and just took the Wiley.

I am happy I played it as I did, a few weeks later, I found a Ruger M77 in 357, and got that instead. :D

I have two 7.62x39mm rifles, and both are accurate enough for me. :) My CZ 527M is a great little bolt action carbine, best camp/hiking rifle I have, very light weight, and very easy to use. As I have stated here before, according to the Internet I am a terrible shot. :)

This one likes that Berry's plated bullet, 125 grain puppy.

Still working up a good cast load, working on hardening up the metal.

My other is my SA vz-58.

Honestly, this rifle is just plain fun to shoot. It isn't as accurate as the 527M, but I can hit minute of bad guy at 200 yards.

Just for fun, I did this farting around the other day, Range is subminiature, 25 yards, shots taken standing, targets 1.5 inches wide, 2 inches tall. I got 4 out of 6. ;) I know everyone else here can do better, but I'm OK with this. The rifle is fantastic, full pound lighter than any AKM clone, and that with a milled receiver.

I will say I had the steel target out at 300 yards some time ago, and with a buddy watching, scored 4 out of 6 with the vz-58, 12x8' 1/2 scale IDPA gong. Also hit it most of the time with the 527M, iron sights at 300 yards. It was a VERY good day.

I have to say that the best 7.62x39 i have shot is my current Norinco SKS. I can shoot an honest 2 moa at 100 yards on a good day. and that is with the stock iron sights. Maybe it is because i am built like a russian conscript soldier.
