I have seen guys do fairly well with common rifles, not a papoose but I do remember a stainless Ruger 10/22 that a guy shot really well at a turkey shoot. Did not win though. And a lot depends on the level of competition. Some fun shoots only a few guys can shoot. But really, We have all heard unlikely annoying brags about what guys shoot in their backyard or whatever. Many of us know better and nobody believes your papoose story in a real shoot so stop being another one of those guys.

well whatever you think but I saw what I saw and know different...

I bought my first Papoose in the early ‘90s, have owned a handful of them since.

There’s never been a single one I have ever seen which would top any run of the mill 452/455 for precision, or 10/22T, let alone when a guy talks about custom rifles. I run witness marks on my barrel nuts to try to keep my torque consistent, but even at that, it’s not a precision rifle.

“Hidden gems” and “best kept secrets” are typically nothing more than bullschitt. Especially the Papoose - it’s a cheap backpacker’s rifle, it’s easy for a guy to buy one and test first hand whether it outshoots his “high dollar” custom, or conventional factory competition rifle. If they were consistently capable of winning, guys wouldn’t spend the money we do to buy and build custom rifles.

Of course, if you consider it to be a match with Jim Bob bets Billy Wayne he can hit more hedge apples off of the fence rail than Leroy, well... we’re talking about different matches...

lol well one of these days someone will come in and with a cheaper 22 rifle will outshoot you guys and you'll see but sadly ya'll won't believe it even tho they won! it'll happen just wait and see...

In 45 years of competitive shooting I've seen "less expensive" Target rifles beat " more expensive" Target rifles.
NEVER saw cheap rifles beat even Entry Level Target rifles.
Cheap rifles CAN shoot good, unfortunately GOOD doesn't win matches.

AGAIN I ask, what are these mystical matches you speak of.

I

I bet the "go to" ammunition for these "matches" are Remington goldens, Winchester 333 bulk, maybe some Remington yellow jackets for the really precise work.
WOW............. I cannot believe I just wasted time reading the last few pages of this thread.

Yup, he is determined to be that guy. Lol. I agree with Redneck, As I will often do, I ask you to come to any range near me and we will shoot your papoose against my CZ off a bench at standard targets at 50 yards with witnesses. I bet you $ 50.00. I have beat shooters with more expensive guns. Just because I am a reasonably good shooter with some training and experience and good equipment. But I am not a fool. There are guys on here that could beat me with my own gun. I know a guy with an Annie that could outshoot me if he chose to. If i had an Annie maybe I could shoot better, maybe not. But I am not afraid of losing either.

well I would love to take you up on that, this maybe fun after all!! ;) so what ammo you wanna use as i'll tell you what i'll bring and that is Winchester m-22 as my rifle is sighted with that plus it likes it!! you may need ultra match to catch me...

I just worked a Scout event as a coach.
They were shooting Golden Bullets and Winchester Wildcats. I could hear the difference in muzzle blast - usually light. I'd call low before I looked into the spotting scope - yup usually about an inch low. Wrecked some good groups.

Create it as I mentioned above, shooting a common target, with the honor system and pictures of the target. I’m not driving to Oklahoma to prove you wrong. I’ll be shooting my CZ 452 with Lapua.

Let us know which specific target you decide on so we can score it and at what distance.

Sorry, but I am skeptical of many of the targets I see posted in online matches. The results with the gun/ammo combos that I see are often times far better than what I have witnessed in person out of the same set ups.
