In your opinion, what is the absolute most reliable autoloader out there? I am talking stock, factory fresh. No Mods.

* Stop over complicating everything and just give your OPINION. Does not have to be a FACT, thats not what an OPINION is.

Why, that would be the one that doesn't jam!

It is impossible to state "which one" as there are many makes and models that shoot without a single jam, then you might have a real expensive auto-loader that you think will not jam and come to find out, you have a Jam-O-Matic!

I once had a real expensive pocket gun that I paid over $400 for in the 80's and the thing was a jam or several jams for every magazine I loaded, didn't matter which bullet, and sending it in for repairs was a joke - I got it back and it still jammed.

Most expensive paperweight I ever owned.

There's no one answer to this question. Any automatic is capible of malfunctioning for one reason or another, it's the nature of the beast. If you're looking for "most reliable" then buy a revolver;)

There are definitely some automatics that have a reputation of being very reliable. Beretta 92 series, CZ-75, HK USP, Springfield XD/XDM, Glock, etc....

However if I were forced to pick just one gun to rely on over all other my vote would go t the Beretta 92fs but that's by no means the one answer to your question.

Take your pick, SIG P226, Glock G17 & Beretta 92FS, 9mm. SIG P226, Glock G22 & H&K USP , .40S&W. SIG P220, Glock G21 & Colt 1911A1, .45ACP. There is no best pistol but the SIG P226 comes close IMO, IME, I have 5 SIGs and not one malfunction out of any ever, Glock same, Colt same, H&K same, Beretta same...

Agree with NWILLIAMS

He already stated my answer. I agree with this previous post 100%...

The only opinions that would really be worth anything would be from someone with extensive and long term experience with all available makes and models of autoloaders. The vast majority of us really only have any significant experience with a very few of all the pistols available on the market. So, our opinions will be highly biased by what we actually know. And for many models that have been in production for years or decades, quality and reliability may have changed numerous times so it would also depend on the vintage of the weapon.

While I've shot lots of glocks, I've never owned one so how can I possibly even comment on their real world long term reliability? I know my SIGs, CZ P-01 and colt 1911s are very reliable, but that doesn't come remotely close to answering your question.

I have a Springfield XD45c, and it has been problem-free as an every day carry gun IWB with minimal care. Every couple of weeks I give it a quick cleaning to get the lint and stuff out, and back to business. No drama, and comfortable to shoot too.

I had a Glock 17 a long time ago (sold when money got tight once) and it was also no-drama reliable. There is a video on youtube of a guy that buried a Glock 21 for 2 years, and then fired 500 rounds without any cleaning. This speaks for itself in my opinion.

If you look on youtube there are a ton of videos of people doing stupid things to their polymer-frame handguns, mostly Glocks, so I would look at guns in that category first.

ar27,

i do not know who makes the single most reliable autoloading pistol. i am comfortable in saying that Glock, Sig, Beretta, and some others make good ones that are reliable. but the most reliable, i really don't know.

personally, i favor Glocks. i shoot them well, like their simplicity, and they have proven reliable for me.

There is no best. There is no "most reliable." There are many great defensive ones out there. Some are designed to suit different situations. Some are subject to user caused issues Limpwristing any semi-auto will cause issues, some worse than others My former beretta 96 and my 1911's still work when I intentionally limpwrist just to see, my "ultra reliable" glock jams nearly every time I limpwrist.

I'm lucky, I've yet to buy an unreliable semi-auto despiting having owned some that internet rumor says are unreliable (Kimbers, sub compact doublestack para 1911).

If I knew that I was going to be in a gunfight (with no way to avoid it), and I had to choose an autoloading handgun right off the shelf, it would be a Glock.

Some pistols that function 100% when clean will fail when dirty. Some pistols that can function 100% when full of mud tend to fail miserably when gripped weakly (limp-wrist) while others keep on cycling. Some pistols blow up if you shoot enough cast lead bullets through them. Yet other pistols that start out as 100% reliable will begin to have problems after 10,000 rounds due to spring wear.

So, you can't say this or that pistol is the be-all-end-all in reliability. My view is that most modern pistols have similar reliability under normal range parameters, each has their own perks and weaknesses and all will fail under different circumstances. You have to educate yourself, shoot and find out what the known weaknesses are for each one and do your best to keep the particular pistol away from them. If you want rock-like reliability, then carry a rock.

I hear lots of complaints about Kimbers. A bud had one and sent it back-just kept jamming. I have a few Colts and am happy with them. Nothing is jam proof. Have a Warthog that has developed a feeding problem. Same with a SArmory. Over all the old 1911s are hard to beat.

Speaking only from my own experience:

I have had no issues with my FNP-9, FN Five Seven, and Springfield Armory EMP 9mm.

The autos that I HAVE had issues with:

A FEW with a CZ75 SP-01, an F.I. Industry Model D, and a Ruger Mark II.

I had a bit more problems with a Walther P22.

You opened a can of worms with this one. There are many correct answers. When I think of the answer however, the gun at the top of the list is a glock 17.

After shooting since about 1938 and working as a gunsmith, I would have to choose the "Forgotten Pistol", the great old reliable P35 Browning Hi Power..... It was totally reliable in 1935 and still is today!!!!!:)

my experience shows my glock 19, 22, and 26 are flawless.

My springfield 1911 likes to get hung up on Semi-Wadcutters, but has been 100% with round nose.

My ruger mark 3 is great until it gets dirty, then it is a jam-o-matic.

all of my guns have had at least 1k rounds through them, some, like the glock 19 have probably had 4-5k. The xdm i've used was flawless as well, but only shot 100 rounds through it. Other than that, I havent had extensive use of any other brands.

Guns that i have THOUSANDS of rounds through with NO problems

Springfield Loaded
Xd-40
xd-45
M&P 9mm
Ruger P95
Glock 19
Glock 23
Ruger MKII 22/45

those guns all have at least 5k through them without a glitch.

I would pick the Beretta 92 do to its huge ejection port and therefore lack of ejection problems..but they are too big for my hands..next would be the sigs..namle the 226 and 229. Though its not my personal experience..the glocks seem to be about next in line. After that there are several others that have about en even reputation, like the CZ, a well cared for broke in 1911 (yes i said it), H&K (dont know about the springfields and my opinion is "maybe maybe not" on the rugers being up there)

There isn't a gun manufacturer that will guarantee you 100% reliability out of the box. So the most reliable auto loader is the one that you make reliable. Start with one you like that has a good reputation and then shoot the hell out of it until you get the bugs, if any, out of it.

Press trigger - gun goes bang. I don't want the least reservation about a gun I carry for protection. I just got a Glock 27 and I've loaded up 500 rounds to begin the process and I'm headed out to the lower forty now.
