Most under-rated handgun?

almost a Ferrari handgun

An odd one that no one has mentioned yet.

The Benelli B76; 9mm. I bought two, years ago. They had all the best of features combined into one pistol. I foolishly traded one, and it sat at the dealers for almost two months. I could'nt believe it. $325 was the asking.
So I returned and bought it back and was glad I did.

It was an all steel -welded frame designed for military and target competitions all in one.

Fixed barrel; solidly mounted in the frame. Accurate. Cam delayed, locked breech. A pushbar, rather than pull bar trigger mechanism. A wide target trigger. Hard chromed parts. The double/ single action trigger is the best I've experienced. The grip shape and angle is even better than the HP. I mean, you have to hold this pistol to appreciate it. It loves your hand.
Fine grip grooving front and back of the, grip. Large, quick to aquire, but no sharp edge, front sight blade. Buffer washers on the spring guide rod. Yes, and for a moderate recoil 9mm.
The magazine release is a forward push to release that eliminates accidental mag ejections. The magazines themselves are skeletonized with finger disc holds to aid in dropping the follower during reloading. It even has a loaded chamber indicator that is the extractor. The safety lies forward of where the 1911 safety is, so it is easy to engage, and snaps straight up and down. Made to handle the hotest military rounds according to the manual.

And to top it all off, the styling is, well "Italian." Va, va, voom!

I'll throw in the S&W 6906, I had one for many years, great little gun. I traded it for a 1911. I regret trading the gun. But don't regret getting the 1911. I should have just paid for the 1911 and kept my S&W too. It seems like there are lot out on the market from LEO trading-in so maybe I'll get one again.

That is the kind of pistol the Sarah Brady type would buy, because they are special ("special" used like in "special olympics")

Walther P99 A/S - Walther just hasn't caught on like Glocks, and Walther really does a crappy job advertising in America.

But, in my opinion, it is the best gun I have ever fired.

Most under-rated: Hi-Point. Everyone I've ever heard who actually has one says that they are reliable and reasonably good shooters. Good gun for the price.

Most UN-Rated: Makarov + E. Bloc Clones. Few seem to even think about this proven sidearm when deciding on a light concealed carry gun. Most people know they exist, but act as if they didn't.

Lorcin AND .25 - A marriage made in hell! But with the pink grips you could run while the BG is laughing his ass off... AND, there's no need to get upset if it doesn't go "BANG" as the .25 wouldn't have done anything anyway:D

The LLAMA .45 of course....I've posted this Llama for the past few years on different forums, and most replies are negative...:banghead: I just laugh & laugh...:D This Spaniard is all business with all ammo loads...Here is a sample of some of the expressions aimed at my "poor, maligned, misunderstood" all-steel assassin..
"POS", "Paper-Weight", "You get what you pay for", "Hit & Miss" "Low End of the Food Chain", "Inferior Spanish steel", "Llama's Out-of Business, No Parts", ad nauseum...

As regards the FEGs, I keep hearing from people that the PA-63 has a nasty un-Mak-like snap of a recoil that's a good way to develop a flinch?

I have to agree with Haymaker...FEGs made in Hungary. I own two...the AP in .380 and the APK in .22 LR...rugged and reliable, highly accurate, copies of the Walther PP and PPK imported by InterArms and I paid well under $200 for each...new in the box!!!!
My other vote goes to the Russian Makarov...built like a tank!!!! (mines been converted to .380 Auto)

My experience with the baby eagles is limited, but the one I used jammed every other shot. As for what I think is underrated, it's already been mentioned, Star Firestar.

Another vote for S+W K-framed .38's.
Sure, not universally under-rated, the real S+W guys or pure revolver guys all say everyone should own at least one model 10, but outside that group, when you get into the current, general gun-owning/shooting public, it seems to me there's a general consensus that these old wheelies just can't get it done anymore. Some because of capacity and some because of caliber (Laughing and agreeing with "they had to have a magnum but they practice with standard .38's and carry +P's").
I will continue believing that, as a first gun for a novice or as an old reliable for a seasoned vet, a 4" model 10 or 64 is a great, great piece. If you don't agree, there's more for me!:p

FNP9 +1

Another vote for the Browning Pro-9/FNP9. I picked up an FNP9 and it has moved up to become one of my favorite autoloaders. It's shoots well, is tough, easy to maintain, well-balanced, and fits my hand better than any pistol I've ever shot (1911's, HK's, SIG's, CZ's, XD's, etc)

To me, the most underrated handgun has to be the CZ-75B. I was a huge Sig fan and the 226 was my favorite of all duty type guns. That is until I discovered the CZ. The workmanship is great, the steel they use is easily some of the best in the industry. It's an accurate, durable and reliable gun that fits me like it was molded for my hand.

As a close second, I'd have to say Bersa's Ultra Compact/Mini-Firestorm series. I was vaguely aware of the gun but knew little about it. I stumbled unto a couple articles that piqued my interest. After finding www.bersatalk.com and reading owners experiences, I took the plunge and bought the .45 version. The little gun is amazingly accurate for it's size and it balances well. It's just extremely easy to hit with and has surprisingly light recoil. I sold my Para Warthog and carried the Bersa up until hot weather forced me to downsize temporarily. It's definately underrated.

I meant to mention Llamas...at least the older ones with the checkered wood grips...didn't have much luck with the brown plastic grip models and never owned any of the late model ones. I have an older "Especial" model in .22LR I won't part with!
