Most under-rated handgun?

Sometimes a Rock Island Army (RIA) 45 ACP isn't under rated. Much of the time you do get em coming out of the box shooting fairly decent. However I came across an RIA with ejector problems, ramp and throat problems
where the round just didn't feed straight up the center and into battery stiff trigger and trigger creep from hell. If you get a good one they will shoot like a sewing machine. Good thing about an RIA is that armscor backs up their guns with a lifetime Guarantee.

i would have to say rock island armory 1911 because, i've never heard of it until a few days ago.

i bought one and have only shot a few rounds thru it but, it seems to work fine for now anyways.

Why would you buy a gun you've never heard of? Also, reliability tests usually require more than an "few rounds."

I'm glad to see many people mentioning CZ pistols, I love mine to death. I do like to hear about the "low-end" 1911 pistols out there, as well. I've heard too many people completely bash them on the premise that their pistol cost 500-700 dollars more than one of the "crappy cheap" 1911s.

If I were to ever get a 1911, I'd get a Rock Island Armory or cheaper.

Easy there Rio. Maybe he wanted a 1911, heard about RIAs, read up on them here and at the 1911 forum, and saw that they're a safe bet. I don't own one myself, but from what I've seen here and at the 1911 forums I'd buy one if I wanted another "GI" style 1911. Maybe he has a small local gunshop where the owner tells it like it is, recommended the RIA, and he took trusted advice. Could be any number of things. I'm sure he also understands that a few rounds doesn't prove long term reliability. Rather, I think the comment was meant to convey that it runs well out of the box, and is reliable thus far. All I'm sayin is give folks a little leeway, and the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise.

The Tanfoglio in 9mm, the Italian version of the cz-75.

Sig p230/232, i prefer it over the PP series.

MAKAROV

I'll cast my vote for the MAKAROV. The Russians may not have used a round that was as powerful as some demand but it is an super accurate, super tough gun. It shoots extremely well and does so with only 30 total parts! A Glock has 35 and the vaunted 1911 has over 50. That is quite a feat of engineering.

MCgunner, I second that!

I'd also like to add anything chambered in .22LR. Sure, its certainly not the best choice for SD, but it is without a doubt the most underestimated cartridge out there. I don't believe anyone would want to stand downrange of one to prove otherwise.

I'll say the Llama IX-A in .45 cal. This is a smooth shooting and accurate handgun,I like it better than my Rugers.Just my opinion.

I would say the Walther P99QA (40), it is reliable, accurate and fun to shoot. Also, its little kid brother the P22 (22lr) which is a blast to shoot and you can't beat the ammo cost. The PPK/S (380) has also of late been overly critiqued but it too is a great reliable and accurate gun.

I would say that the Walthers are all great guns.

I have seen very favorable articles on the FNP, Rugers, Sigma's, and CZ's. Most of the gun shops I know have people that really like the Rugers, CZ-75's and FNP9's. But I tend to agree that some gun snobs think that $500-$700 is what you have to spend to get a quality gun. I like all of the above except the Sigma's. But, I hear the new model are "enhanced" to correct any previous issues.

I rarely hear much good about Bersa. My friend owns a 380. It is fun and accurate. He has had it for years. So, my vote for under-rated is the Bersa.

Im a pictures kinda guy....

I never realized CZs are under-rated. I thought the have always been highly respected. Anytime I met someone with a new gun, they usually always compared it to either a 1911, Glock, or CZ. Glock and CZ are the benchmarks for 9mm's. Maybe my crowd was just more familiar with CZ. As for the Walther, all I ever heard from them is high praise also. Both at gun stores and by owners. They are not very common... but I can't say they're under-rated because I never read or heard any negative comments, only very positive ones.
