Mouse Gun Carry

I pocket carry a S&W M&P Bodyguard and yes, I use a pocket holster.
It's nothing fancy, but has a textured (almost sticky but not really) exterior that allows it to stay in the pocket easily if you need to produce it in a hurry.

tough to beat a S&W 442. DPA.

during an encounter the trigger pull doesn't matter. defense guns are for 10 foot or less.

Have a 442 for 23 years. ON DAO just pill the trigger as fast as you can, not squezze it.

Closest I have to a mouse gun is a Sig P290. A loose pair of cargos or a coat pocket accommodate it. Always use a holster. I trimmed pieces of card stock to fit my pockets and insert them with the gun to the inside. Completely eliminates printing.

I do not see a pocketed pistol as a “back-up” gun, but as an accessibility option. During a moment in time, in which having a hand or hands casually in the pockets would be a normal thing to do, the pocketed weapon can be very much “primary,” however temporarily, even though one may be carrying a larger and/or more-powerful weapon elsewhere, on or about one’s person.

Bending at the hip or waist can inhibit an efficient draw, or even totally block access to some pockets, which is one reason that my pocketed pistol is not usually my only weapon. Bending at the hip or waist is LIKELY to happen, if one is suddenly rushed by an attacker. During jacket/vest weather, a shoulder rig might nicely complement a pocket-holstered weapon.

If one is wearing suitable trousers, an ankle rig might complement a pocket rig well. An ankle rig may be more-accessible, if knocked onto one’s rear end or back, because using one’s legs, while on the ground, to fend off an attacker that is standing, is a time when a pocketed weapon may be less-accessible. If I am off my feet, the leg may well be free to bring the ankle gun closer to my hand. I do not routinely wear an ankle rig, but did do so when working police patrol, and, as I am becoming an old man, with less-than-perfect balance becoming worse, well, I have to recognize that an ankle rig may resume its place, in my life.

I realize that at least one jurisdiction, in the USA, prohibits carrying more than one handgun concealed. This post is intended for those who do not face this restriction.

This thread was started at an interesting time, for me, as I have recently returned to using pocket carry much of the time. Due to age catching up with me, I tend to look a bit more stooped, when walking. Less flexibility/mobility in my right shoulder, arm, and hand joints makes getting a high-riding weapon, of any substantial size, clear of a hip or IWB holster. When dressed as a frumpy grandpa, and looking worse than the current President when I walk, it looks less unusual for me to be swinging only one arm, while walking, while the other hand remains in or near a front trousers’ pocket. I am not yet ready to declare that the pocketed gun is the “primary” weapon, but pocket carry has certainly increased in relative importance.

Pocket Pistol is an old term from the time when men wore suit jackets. I don't believe thy were ever intended to be carried in a pants pocket. I carry pocket pistols regularly, almost never in a pants pocket. They carry comfortably in an OWB, IWB, or Remora type holster and don't print under a t-shirt. They are also much easy to access. What more could you ask for? Why cram one in your jeans?

I have been unable to find jeans with useful pockets, for quite some time. Even my favored Wranglers evolved into something with pockets that are only suitable as decorations. I gave up on jeans, several years ago. The VertX trousers, that I used to buy, have similarly devolved, regarding their front pockets. I have thought about going to a police equipment store, and seeing if I can find the type of duty trousers that the PD used to issue to me, during my final several years of service, which ended in 2018. Those front pockets could accommodate a Ruger SP101.

Tru dat. When I carry my LCP MAX, it's IWB at 2:30 in a Vedder LightTuck. Very comfortable and very concealed.

When carrying a mouse gun or pocket gun, I mostly use a pocket holster. On rare occasions the Kel-Tec P32 is carried IWB with just the clip over my belt. The two on the left are in Aholster Pocket Backbone holsters. Really like them because I have other J frames and LCR’s. Top right is a Vedder holster for the Beretta Pico with the curve and release tab added. Bottom right is a Desantis.

For me, what kind of activities I'll be doing help me decide what and where to carry.

If I'm going to be sitting, it's breast pocket (LCP) or cargo pocket (LCR). Those are my fastest/easiest locations to draw from when I'm sitting.

If I'm not going to be sitting, back pocket is very good and fits a 642 perfectly.

For hiking where there's critters, a larger revolver OWB.

IMHO, I have advantages over my friends who always carry on their belt. If you have trained and practiced to always carry on your belt, that's probably best for you. But watching my friend draw his IWB pistol out from under his coat the other day was eye-opening. It was painfully slow, whereas my breast-pocket LCP was instantly accessible.

In the summer, cargo shorts with well-placed and properly-sized pockets are my favorite. They hold my LCR perfectly. It's easily accessible when I'm sitting. When I'm standing, my long ape arms hang down so that my fingertips are literally on the grip. I took a two-day road trip with a non-gun-person friend a couple of summers ago, and he never even noticed it.

For most outings, my dogs are my primary weapons. I only have to rely on my puny handgun when I have to go to the store or something. There are people who show concern about HD or SD outdoors and do not own dogs. This has always puzzled me. I grew up with German Sheperds. They rescued me from my own poor judgment repeatedly... dragged me from freezing creek, pushed me away from venomous snakes I didn't notice, growled and showed fangs whenever a human smelled aggressive towards me, etc. The handgun really is just a backup. :)

Your clothing and work conditions are probably different than mine. I’ve been pocket carrying on the job as a traveling service tech since 2008. A front pocket gun doesn’t stab me in my side or back when working on machinery while in a variety of positions on the floor. And concealment is maintained with my work shirt tucked in.

I also have non-pocket carry options, but I only get to use them if I’m not wrenching on machinery or if I have a day off.

Edit to add: When I can wear clothing that offers better carry methods and concealment than a 21st century sized pocket gun, I carry a bigger and heavier gun. I sure don’t carry my LCP max in an OWB rig.

This BORAII holster works well for my LCP II. It snaps securely in place but is easily removed when drawing by catching the hook on the pocket edge. It is not bulky and leaves full access to the slide and magazine release. Fits comfortably in the front pocket of my jeans.

When the need to pocket carry a mouse gun (Ruger LCP) I've been using a Mitch Rosen El Raton Express pocket holster for the last ten years. Definitely not cheap but it has held up for 10 years and barely shows any signs of wear. My preferred pocket carry is a Sig P365 with manual safety. Been using a DeSantis Nemesis for the Sig 365 but looking at the El Raton to replace it.

I wear Duluth Trading Co. firehouse flex or firehouse pants. Ample room to carry such guns either cargo or front pocket. They are quite common here (WI & MN) so no alarm bells like 5.11 branded stuff set off.

If I pocket carry its a 642 and I just drop it into a pocket. The trigger is long and heavy enough that I am not concerned with an accidental discharge.
+1 That's what I do as well. Put it in my jacket pocket, zip it up, and go about my day. If needed, I'll unzip my pocket, and will have the gun in hand ready to fire from the pocket should I see a possible threat.

404F063C-DB57-437B-B0A9-5790E8DB7A1E.jpeg LCP Custom with a 7 shot mag in a Desantis Deep Cover <$20 Amazon ( at least before Brandonflation). I toss the extra mag in there loose with no issues. I’ve been dragging it around this way for about eight years. My only issue is is pants often don’t seem to come with pockets that are real pockets anymore. Some have some really strange shapes too. I dedicate that pocket to only those things so that there’s no chance something can snag a trigger.
You can carry these things in your coat nicely, but the problem comes when you take the coat off. I like to have the thing right in my pocket until I take it out of my pocket and park it in its very high cupboard top niche . I don’t want anybody getting in there and getting a hold of it stealing it , kids playing with or whatever when it’s sitting in a coat rack . That’s why mine goes in my pocket and comes right out only when it gets put away, I just feel it’s safer for everyone.
Pocket Carry while some feel it’s ungainly I actually prefer to even a holster. That’s because you can easily be standing there with your hand in your pocket and have a full grip on the gun ready to draw and no one will even know why your hand is in there Perhaps even better, little Leroy whiles he’s sizing you up may well decide you may have something in your pocket he doesn’t want to encounter and he’ll change his mind, after all, that’s the primary objective in the first place . When it comes to the sticky holster thing, I don’t know ,this Desantis is a sticky holster, but it never stayed sticky very long. It really never came to bother me though very much. The big issue is the shape of the pocket summer so baggy and summer so tiny you have to figure out what works although I found a way to live with just about all of them. Cargo pockets a great thought even if it’s for a place to put the wallet or cell phone.
The truth is what we really need to be carrying is a man purse these days. The trouble is we’re( meaning ME) ain’t Matthew McConaughey, and I just ain’t gonna do it. No no no no no no. Matt can keep his Continental too, I’ll stick to Toyota along with my LCP.

My 22lr snubbies ride in an Alabama Pocket Holster or Andrews Shoulder Holster. Glock 42 rides in shoulder holster.
