Mouse Gun Carry

I carry pocket pistols regularly, almost never in a pants pocket. They carry comfortably in an OWB, IWB, or Remora type holster and don't print under a t-shirt. They are also much easy to access. What more could you ask for? Why cram one in your jeans?

The only pistol I really feel okay with when carrying in a front pant's pocket is my KelTec P3AT. Anything even a bit larger, such as my SIG P238, S&W Model 638, or Ruger LCP MAX, are more comfortable as well as accessible, with an IWB holster.

I have been unable to find jeans with useful pockets, for quite some time. Even my favored Wranglers evolved into something with pockets that are only suitable as decorations. I gave up on jeans, several years ago. The VertX trousers, that I used to buy, have similarly devolved, regarding their front pockets. I have thought about going to a police equipment store, and seeing if I can find the type of duty trousers that the PD used to issue to me, during my final several years of service, which ended in 2018. Those front pockets could accommodate a Ruger SP101.
You can carry an LCP in the WATCH POCKET of Ariat Rebar jeans.
The regular front pocket is equally generous.

When I worked in a Brooks Brother's world (stock broker) I always wore a suit and carried my PPK in a Thad Rybka pocket holster. Since the jacket usually came off in the office, either pocket or ankle carry was preferred. I always carried in pocket. That is what pleated slacks are for!

Accidental discharge is not the reason why a pocket holster is a good thing. It's so the gun is where you expect it to be in that pocket when you need it, and also to break up any printing.
It's also to make sure there isn't an accidental discharge if one is in the chamber. In fact, that's the number one reason followed by the others.

I carry a Walther PPS with light in a Remora holster. The sticky of the Remora doesn't really work on the utility pants I wear so the holster always comes out with the firearm. In order to draw, I have to grab the bottom tab of the holster with my free hand through my pants. Pretty much eliminating the discrete draw advantage of pocket carry. Eventually I am going to try a different pocket holster.

I personally wouldn't carry an unholstered gun. Too much pocket lint, and too much exposed trigger.

I have a few different "pocket" holsters for my 340PD. One is a decades-old leather sleeve, and the others are various types of cloth-like synthetic. They all work about the same. None of them work in my jeans pockets. The gun itself is simply too big for comfort. It works reasonably well in a jacket pocket, as long as I don't take my jacket off and forget it somewhere - one of my many "stupid human tricks". Mostly, I restrict "pocket carry" to a pouch in a running vest, where it is ideal. When I do carry the little gun in street clothes, it is on my belt, where it disappears almost entirely whether inside the waistband or out.

I'm pretty much with 38 Spl on this one. Most of my pockets are too full of detritus (that's lint and dirt for you Indiana guys) to make pocket carry practical for me.

But I'll also readily admit that I often walk the dog out to our upper pasture for her night ablutions just before bed...and tuck a 4" bbl'd revolver in my back jeans pocket for what-if's. And, even my wife gets in the act with comments like, "you're gonna lose one of those things someday, 'cause you're too damned lazy to slip on a holster". She's right ya know!

Below's one of my creations for my P365 (sort of a 'mouse gun' but in a usable caliber)...doesn't take up much space and is almost as concealable under my love handles, as under a shirt tail!

I carry a skinny wallet in my front pocket of my jeans. That leaves my back pocket open for a 642 in a Sticky. Just like reaching for your wallet and the most comfortable carry option I’ve tried yet. My LCPll was actually a little better fit but the number 3 son managed to wrangle it away

The smallest and lightest carry gun that I own is a LCPII 380. I think the 380 is a good minimum and the hides in a pocket with holster easily.
That said, why do I have this desire to buy a Seecamp 32acp? A LGS has one and I'm afraid to pick it up because I may take it home. Nothing against the 32acp, I like the 380 for my minimum, but the little Seecamp is just cool.

I use a pocket holster when I pocket my S&W 442 or Taurus 856UL. I also have pocket holsters for my LCP and Pf9 even though I don't really carry them and one for my P365 even though I have only carried it IWB so far.

My pants pockets just aren't big enough to carry without looking like a have a tumor or a Gideon's bible on my thigh. Standing I might pull off a J Frame but sitting looks ridiculous. I can pocket carry my LWS32 though.

I have found shorts that are baggy enough to pocket carry a J frame but the constant slap of the gun on my thigh as I walk is miserable.

Sadly I've found the same over the years.

A lightweight snub (or steel for that matter) works better for me carried in an ISWB holster. Although I will carry it in a kydex pocket holster when concealment doesn't matter much like when in & around the house / my property.

When I need light & discrete it's still a Beretta .25 in the pocket w/holster.

Since this picture I have gotten a Desaintis Super Fly pocket holster for my DB9. and it is my new favorite

DeSantis Nemesis for me, all the way. I have them for Kel-Tec P32, Beretta Pico, and SIG P238. Those are my pocket-carry guns.

They work great. I've tried kydex pocket holsters from a few different makers, but I find them less comfortable and harder to draw from.

With one exception, and that's more a novelty than anything serious, I quit "trying" to use my pants pockets for carrying guns the second I got my first Smart Carry. Check one out, I think youll find its an epiphany.

They may seem unconventional with no way of possibly being comfortable or working well, but they are just the opposite. You can easily and comfortably carry a more realistic gun along with a reload or other things, and its faster and easier to access the gun, even while sitting. And you can do it in nothing but a pair of shorts with no belt or shirt too. They are the most versatile and useful holsters I have and the last one's Id get rid of, if I had to make that unfortunate choice.

Oh, and skip the "Thunderwear" versions. They are similar but not as well made. The material is lighter and with some guns, the trigger can be tripped pretty easily while pressing on the fabric. Try as I may, and Ive tried hard in vetting them, Ive never been able to do that with a Smart Carry with one of my Glocks in it.

Of the places to carry a gun, pocket carry is the slowest to draw from, along with ankle carry depending on the circumstances. (Ankle is a quicker draw than pocket if seated)

Unless you get to start with your hand already on the gun while it's in your pocket. Then it's the fastest. (Assuming it's a gun & holster combo allowing a consistently reliable, smooth draw)
