Mouse Guns.

I always find it interesting, whenever someone starts a "mousegun" thread, that a LOT of people start talking about the tiny pocket guns they have. But, according to most of the "Pro" gunwriters, all these little guns are a waste of time and money, we shouldn't even consider having one. Seems that there is a large gap between opinion and reality illustrated here. Anybody else notice this situation?

Edited to point out that I already mentioned my Beretta 950BS on the first page of this thread. :)

Backwoods,

Okay, I'll bite...

My mousegun has pretty much never been an "only" gun.

I always have my .44 Special 296Ti in my purse, and frequently a "real" gun on my belt.

The way I look at it, the Jetfire doesn't take up much more size, weight or space than a spare mag for the gun on my belt. If my belt gun [breaks/gets snatched/is dropped or lost] than one spare mag for the belt gun and a Jetfire is going to be a whole lot more useful than two spare mags for the belt gun and no Jetfire.

Fiveshooter,

Great Pic :D :D :D

To answer the original question: Kahr MK9 Elite

I usually dress ugly, and can get away with almost any CCW.

But, there are times when jean and an NH sports coat, otherwise known as a flannel shirt, won't cut it, and so it's impossible to conceal the USPc.

Would I be better off unarmed, or with a P32 in the front pocket?

We have a Berreta .22 available, since I can't convince her to carry anything else, but, for the times I can't do the good ones, the P32 seems to me to be the way to go.

'least 'till they come out with the .380/9mm version....

I wouldn't shoot a mouse with anything less than .40!:)

HK USP Compact .40

Big mice where I am from.:D

From some of the responses, maybe the "Mouse Gun" category needs defining! :D

My answers:

Currently available: Kel Tec P-32 at "tiny" in size and weighing less than 10 ounces fully loaded with 7+1 rounds of .32 ACP.

Available after mid-February: Rohrbaugh R-9 in the same tiny size category as the P-32 and weighing 12.3 ounces empty. Its capacity is 6+1 rounds of 9mm Luger ammunition.

Both pistols are locked breech designs with slide locks after the last shot.

There's no telling what 2 "new" products Kel Tec is going to announce at the SHOT Show in February, but I'm hoping at least one will be a mouse gun in a bigger caliber than .32 ACP.

Noticed.

I hardly consider it a waste of time and money when a mouser is all that will work in a particular situation. For me, that's often.

Backwoods,
I also think that mouse guns are valuable in certain situations. Besides I don,t know about you, but I would'nt want to be shot in the face by a .25 or a .32.

My point was that many people have mouse guns. My primary is usually a Hi Power or a 1911A1, but around home(small rural town<10 thou) I don't feel the need most times for a lot of gun. When I leave home, I nearly always have something in 9mm or 45 ACP.

I think the smaller(22/25) caliber pistols fall into three modes of use.
1 The Go away/leave me alone mode. No one wants to be shot, even with a tiny mouse gun. The studies of Lott and Kleck and others show that just having a (any) gun will ward off most attackers.

2 Retreat/getaway mode. Retreat behind a hail of tiny bullets. Not a good plan where innocent people would be endangered.

3 Last ditch close range defence mode. Louis Seecamp is reported to have responded to people who asked about the lack of sights on his little pocket pistol "You stick the gun in thier face and pull the trigger! What the %$#@ do you need sights for?" This is the best gunfight advice for these little guns, IMHO.

Point taken. My primary is also a 1911. Glad we agree about something. But I also like to have something in my pocket that nobody can see.

Walther TPH

Anyone have any experance with the USA made stainless TPH? Good or bad.ammo and such.

Seecamp 32, always there. I've been on the list for the 380 for a while and they finally got back to me over a month ago. I now have a good chunk paid down on the 380 and should have it in 2 to 4 months.

I'm still waiting for someone to utter the classic phrase,"Is that a gun in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?" Will I have an answer for them!! LOL

Toro, I have a Walther TPH..

Hi Toro,
I have an American made Walther TPH in .22 LR.
The gun functions as close to perfect as possible and is reasonably accurate. I could not recomend it as a self defense weapon because even the best rimfires will missfire from time to time. This would not be as big of an issue in a DA revolver. Also a .22 is really too small for self defense but I will agree that"ANY gun is better than NO gun".

Best Regards,
Billy

My P32 was never totally reliable even after three trips back to KelTec. I went with a NAA Guardian 380. The NAA is kind of heavy. Right now I am carrying a Kahr PM9 in my front pocket. It does not seem to be too big or too heavy for the role. Watch-Six
