I took my 5 year old to the rang on Sat. He shot a single shot .22lr at distances of 5-10 yds. He had an awesome time and did great! All he is talking about is when we are going back! Make me fell good!:D

He wanted me to tell everyone that the shots that are by the "6" and "7" (at the bottom) he ment to shoot at them...not at the red in the center.

I'm breaking my temporary posting hiatus to say that I'm proud of you for taking the time to teach him. You're an excellent coach, and he's obviously a bright student. Keep it up!

Always glad to hear of responsible firearms education. Looking forward to the day I can take my kids shooting. (They are still too young yet, though I plan on starting my daughter with archery next year when she turns 4)

He did a good job too! Hope he stays interested and grows up to be another responsible gun owner!

Sounds like a good day :)
My 5 year old nephew after I took him and his brother out shooting my .22 for the first time: "Handguns are fun!" Me: "Yes they are :) "
On the "responsible shooting" angle: I was very impressed with both of their ability to absorb, and apply the rules of safe shooting. They were so excited about being able to do it, and of course the first thing we did was have a "safety talk," so that they knew that if they weren't safe, first and foremost, then we were not going to continue. They both did great, and we had a fun afternoon.

Way to go MD. Teach them young and teach them right. No bad habits to break, less Hollyweird influence. From the looks of the target, I'd say he is getting the hang of things pretty well.

I started my son out with a .22 when he was 2. He will be 6 next month and has moved up to .243. It is great to have a hobby that you can share with your son, but it can get expensive. Totally worth it, though.

Hey MD, what exactly was he shooting? We've got a 7yo that I want to take to the range and I believe a .22 fits the bill perfect!

Surfinguru,

We got our 8yo a Davy Crickett and it works just right for him though, like every other gun in the house, it hates Remington bulk pack ammo.

surfinguru: look at CZ Scouts.

OP:
Thank you for helping start another generation of shooters and it looks like your son is off to a great start.

Hey MD, what exactly was he shooting?

He was shooting a single shot, bolt action, Marlin .22lr. He does not have any guns as of right now. I promised him that I would get him one for his 6th birthday if he showed me that he was responsible enough to own one. So far he is doing great!

This is cool.

Hey There;
That is very cool.
My Grand daughter is now 4 and she is learning to shoot also. I had an old "Chipmonk" .22 from when my boys were young and she is now trying it out. She asked if I would make it Pink. Well I just might.
Keep up the good thing you have going there.
