Well, it was truly a great anniversary for me today. I got off work and my wife and I went to the range today. Why this is significant is that this time last year, my wife was vehemently anti-gun.

Through a series of events, we got into a situation where SD was an obvious necessity and after years of 'light arguments' I went out and got my first gun over her objections as our family was clearly in danger. She was angry, even though she knew I was right and acting to defend our family, but still didn't want to shoot or anything (her cousin killed himself with a gun when she was young).

Fast forward, after reading and learning a lot here, hearing different arguments, and also learning about SD situations in our own community, I was able to get her to go out once with me, but my Beretta was too big for her small hands so it didn't go well.

Fast forward a little more, some recent police cearches near our home and 2 deputies shot in 1 week here in Broward (all the while saying 'see honey, there is no safe place, we need to be prepared'), and I've actually been able to get her thinking about getting a CCW permit! So we went to the range today, and I've been preparing for this: since the last trip, I've purchased a Browning Buckmark and a GP100. I also borrowed a friend's 38 snubby. We got to shoot for a while. She was actually one of the better new shooters I've taught. She has a natural gift for it, and did great with the out to about 20 ft. We tried out the 38s and finished up with a few 357 rounds. She had fun, and was even asking about what kind of personal gun to get toward the end...

It's been a big year. From dogmatically anti to looking at CCW. I just wanted to share the joy, and say thanks to everybody here who I have learned so much from, especially Pax with the cornered cat, who have helped me to strategically think through the minefield of guns and families with small children.

I wonder what the next year will hold?

Congratulations

Way to go wifey.
It appears to me that you were able to pull the wool from around her eyes and she seen then how the world really is. I wish that the world was a soft and cuddly place with no criminals or wrongdoings, but unfortunately it isn't. I wish I could convert my wife, but I do not think that she will ever see the facts. She will always believe that a person is in the wrong by simply owning firearms. She just has to turn a blind eye to me then. I have collected for years, and will not stop, no not even for her. Enough about me. Take her to the range again as soon as possible. Hope she out shoots ya!!

My fiance was an anti until I took her shooting for the first time. Now she asks me to go shooting with her, and is taking my combat handgun courses with me. I think a good deal of anti's would convert in the right situation.

Black Adder LXX - I wonder what the next year will hold?

This is what I predict for your next years' anniversary:

Congrats and thanks for sharing!

congratulations! My wife had never shot a gun before a few months ago. She is now waiting on her handgun permit in the mail (big smile). We got her a 38 snub nose. Now she wants a Glock. Hope all continues to go well. We a lucky guys!

Well done - I'm working on my wife at the moment as well, but I'm taking the soft approach because I don't like people trying to ram stuff down my throat either. Highlighting certain things, pointing out others...

Congrats on the anniversary and the wife's new found interest. I was the same until my husband brought guns into the house and I figured if they are gonna be around I can't be "afraid" of them. I have three so far. Crazy for someone that was so against them. I take pride when carrying too. If I go out to looney-mart late at night I don't wait for anyone else to be walking through the parking lot I just go and think yay go ahead mess with me you idiot and you well get the shock of your lifetime.

Excellent! :D

I hope you and your wife experience many happy hours together on the range, and that neither one of you ever has to use the skills you learn there.
