If anyone has plans to go back to 2006, give me a head's-up before you go. I need to send myself a message....

If you're talking about the XD Service models there's an amazing new invention, maybe you've heard of it? Its called oil, tuns out that it helps prevent pistols from rusting, also the finish issues on the new ones have been resolved...so unless you're going to go back in time and buy an NIB XD Service prior to 2006 it shouldn't be a problem.

Sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of my Glock exploding because of it's unsupported chamber.

The Ruger SR9C is a nice little firearm. I own one. I have had glocks, XD's and the Ruger SR9C. It is different (of course) but nice and certainly worth consideration.

If you can get the CZ 75b's for $359 like Rellascout says. You get the CZ and do not look back.

RUGER P95 in Stainless................these things will eat any ammo you throw into them and for @ $300.00 it's a hell of a gun!!! I love mine and so do other owners of them. 15 in the mag and 1 in the pipe, PLUS 20 round and 32 round mags are very easy to find.

I was just trying to say the XDs are every bit as good as a Glock pistol and they're cheaper with a supported feed ramp as well and the rusting issues of the early models were resolved a long time ago. They're durable as hell to boot:

I know. I'm just giving you grief.

Glock added more support to the chamber to make people feel better when the rumors started, just like Springfield changing their treatment to combat the rust problem. Glocks can have a case blowout and so can other guns. I'm sure XDs have done it too. It's caused by something else besides an unsupported chamber and guns with more chamber support can do it too.

Don't pay me too much attention and have a great weekend.

Ruger and S&W, but now I'm rethinking.....also CZ, Beretta, Springfield Armory.......?

Defnintely used M9 or 92FS. Maybe a used P226 or 228 (not 229). Outside the above choices, a used Glock.

Am I the only one with the cammy (I would not recommend) CZ trigger?

For that price range, the first two guns I'd consider are Sigma or P95.

If your brother has small hands

A used Sig P6/225 should fit the bill.
I got mine for 325. Works great.

for a new production weapon, Ruger is hard to beat. the P95 is an out-standing weapon well within your budget. All Rugers seem to be well built and the company is all aces and is an American made product.

Ruger p89's and p94's can also be found on gunbroker.com and various other places for excellent prices. My current ruger p89 came from gunbroker in 95% + condition for $230 including shipping. Also, the "P" series factory mags are affordable as CDNN had new 15 rd stainless factory mags for $24 each.

Some folks will say just save your money and for a bit more you can buy brand x.y.z............well, that xtra 100 or 200 can be difficult to come by and when tax, shipping and FFL fees gets tacked on it can disappear fast.....that xtra cash can go on other things like ammo and mags.

here is a new ruger stainless p95.....price includes shipping

used guns increase the size of the field in availability/choices.

If I was thinking Ruger, I'd be looking at the SR9c because of it's size. It's close to the size of my Glock 23 which is a great all purpose gun.

+1000

Its tough to beat a used glock for someone who is relatively new to shooting. Very unintimidating and as reliable as semi-autos get.

He won't go wrong with a G17 police trade in. Its a great gun to grow with.

I've had a G22 that was a great gun, I prefer the XDs for their grips and front slide serrations. The G22 I had was one of the old ones however and was made before all the improvements to the frame had been done like the texturing and contoured grip etc.

Also I have seen pictures of an XDM chambered for .40 that exploded due to overcharged ammunition, same goes for Glocks too. However the XDs do have the advantage of being able to shoot lead through them much more safely since they don't have polygonal rifling...not to say that plenty of people don't use lead reloads through their Glocks but I wouldn't do it.

Here's the REAL answer.

Almost any of the guns mentioned above will give you great service. You can't go wrong with just about any XD, M&P, SR9/40 or many of the other guns mentioned.

What one works best for YOU is an entirely different story. You need to go down and fondle them at your local gun shop. Better yet, find people who own these guns so you can actually try them.

One local shop near me has a "demo" policy. $10 for 10 rounds, with any money spent on a rental applied towards the purchase of a new gun if purchased that day. I like that.

Many of these guns feel VEry different in your hand. So again, this is really a personal decision. They will all run great.

I think that if you can get a police trade in Glock for $299 and the glock works for you, its a deal. If it doesn't work for you, then its no deal at any price.

Go out and shoot some guns and let us know what YOU like.

Wish we had a range like that.

The gun shop/range is Hoffmans in CT. Unfortunately, they are a surly group of people. Not my favorite. I don't buy there, but if I didn't have access to friends' guns to try or a piece of land to shoot on, I'd probably buy stuff there just for that reason..
