Well me and the Misses are Closing on our first home on April 30th. I know the subject of Home defense has been beaten to death here on THR. So I wont ask.

The reason I am posting this is to see if I am the only one who takes pride in the fact that you are looked at as a protector. No kids yet but there are plans in the works. Just a family of two at this point, but I know she appreciates the my mindset. I know her father seems to rest easy knowing that her saftey is my number one priority.

I really dont know the point of this post but to see if I am alone in feeling like this. It's all new to me.

Thanks for reading

Congrats & welcome to the club! Pride in home ownership should only be surpassed w/ parenthood!
Funny that whenever I think about stuff like safety/ security, family etc, I realize adulthood is well entrenched...so much for not growing up :scrutiny:

Congratulations! Like you, I am closing on my first home soon.

My girlfriend spends a lot of time with me and I think she also appreciates the fact that I try to protect her whenever I'm around and also to call in and check up on her at times when she's away.

I want to do my best to protect her and anyone else that may eventually become a member of my household, just like you. I also want to teach her responsible gun ownership and use, although I can already tell she can outshoot me with some of my guns!

Good for you Helpless, ironic member name though. My only question is where you guys found women that dont equate protective with "over bearing, manipulative control freaks"?

Congrats on the house, there are very few things that are exciting as buying your first house. Since it is only me, that I have to protect, its not as important as it is for you. But, you should be proud, both for taking care of your wife, and future children, but also achieving the "American Dream".

My wife would be happy if I did not have any weapons in the house or so she's said (haven't been able to turn her yet). She doesn't like them, but realizes that I won't be giving them up anytime soon...so she just doesn't talk about it....

HOWEVER, I know she feels alright with them for this one instance....about 4 times since we've been married (7 years), she's woke me up telling me there's someone in the house (I sleep like the dead). Each time I've jumped up and grabbed my S&W1911 and started looking through the house. Each time (luckily) there's been nothing there.

So my wife has neve complained when she thought someone was in the house, but she's not "for" the firearms....I believe I'll get her to turn...one day (just gotta get her to the range and get her to own her own pistol!)

Oh, congrads on the house...you'll become very familiar with the local Home Depot/Lowe's :D

haha thanks guys, I appreciate the support. I feel all grown up. Who here keeps a shotgun by the bed?

In my current living situation I have drawer in my headboard where my XD45 sleeps but I have the 870 (18.5 and extended mag) standing up behind the headboard out of site.

My reasoning is this, If I peek my head out and it gets blown off or smashed in, my girl knows the XD is there.

With my new job...

Hopefully I will be getting a house this May. Two of our neighborhood friends are both moving out and really want me to purchase their house because they know I dont drink, smoke or party and that I will respect it and take good care of it (unusual for a 22 yr old I guess).

I will be living alone until the fiancee and I tie the knot in May 08'. She will be over a lot but we are believers in the "dont live together until married" (well actually her more than me :D ).

My home defense plans are a shotgun, polymer hi-cap .45 and a dog of the pit-bull or american bulldog breed (love those two breeds even though pits get a bad rap). I figure with those in place, I will be ahead of the game in the unlikely event of a break-in.

When the misses finally moves in I promised her a dog of her own. She of course wants a tiny rat-dog that she can hold constantly.:barf:

What I can say is that I am so looking forward to a house of my own. Even though it is just in the talking phase, I still have an unexplainable amount of pride in the fact that it may happen. I am also in the fortunate position that my parents can help me out on an otherwise unaffordable dream until I get fully established.

Congratulations from the bottom of my heart. I hope everything works out wonderfully for you two.

I'm in bed, with my laptop/aircard right now... less than 16" from my right elbow is a Remington 870 Marine Magnum, with a speedfeed pistolgrip/shoulder stock, and a 3 shot factory mag extension, loaded with 3: 000 buck, and loaded "cruiser ready"...

I know may husband looks on with pride that I can be a protector of our home!

All you people buying homes, that's fantastic. Gives this Realtor hope that the market is turning around. Any one in the central Ohio area need to buy a house and have a pro-gun Realtor representing you?:D

UPDATE: Today dad tells me he is giving me one of his Gun Safes. :what: sweet.

My wife very much appreciates that I am the family provider and protector. Good for you on your first house, you should be proud and I am sure the missus is very proud of you! :)

Protector is one thing but provider, only time will tell. I work for myself doing graphic design so business is up and down, though I do appreciate everyone buying my decals!

Protector

...is to see if I am the only one who takes pride in the fact that you are looked at as a protector.

I was proud to do my duty solo as protector before my wife realized that her safety was also her responsibility, and before my children were old enough to bear their own arms.

Now they are all well armed and proficient, and able to back up Dad if necessary, which makes me more proud. :)

also closing on a house in April (if all goes well!) Where we live in CA, a carry permit is out of the question, so i carry at home. I asked my wife if she thought that was silly, and she replied, no, it makes me feel safe! i love my wife...
