In the late 80's or early 90's I bought a pre-64 30-06 w/pristine metal and tenderly "hunted" wood at the Houston gun show. No scope or mounts. Got a real deal on it on a Sunday afternoon shortly before closing time that I couldn't turn down ($400). I'd say condition was very comparable to yours, Troy, so you should feel pretty good about your deal.
Put a 3X9 Burris FF II on it and picked up a rough stock at another gun show in order to build up a cheek piece and raise the comb w/Bondo and fiber glass. Gave the stock a coat of flat black Krylon and flat clearcoat...........

Metal is still pristine and the original stock sits in a corner, still tenderly hunted. IIRC the original stock had a Pachmyer recoil pad added when I bought it.
By the way, those two holes in side of rear ring are factory drilled, as were the top scope base holes in front and rear rings.
