HSO - "Anyone remember the frontiersmans "possibles bag"? Same thing."
________________________________________________________________

And before the "frontiermen," it was known as a "budget." The very early "frontiermen" such as Daniel Boone, who explored in the mid-1750s, carried their "stuff" in "budgets."

The term for early bad guys, "A Cutt Purse" came because they would cut a man's purse off his shoulder or belt and skeedaddle with it. Somewhat better than "cutthroats" who would, uh... well, you know.

FWIW. L.W.

I've thought about actually making man purses fully stuffed to sell...maybe.

Monofiliament fishing line and/or string Ihave para cord, string and monofiliment fishing line 60# strength, 4 AA batteries instead of 2 ( many electronic devices take 4 not 2 AAs ), a red wax/china marker it can write on almost anything including glass, pencil with erasor (good for cleaning electrical contacts ) and do you have the extra bulb in your surfire carrier ?

Fishing line is a great idea, and pencil with eraser, another great idea. And yes, 4xAA. I guess 4xAA and 4xAAA lithiums will do well.

Excellent job and for those gentlemen with the "purse" comments go on out and buy a .500 S+W Magnum if you are uncomfortable about you manliness ( preferably the Scandium model with the 2" barrell ).

:D :D

PS Optical, thank you for being a LEO I know sometimes LEOs get flamed online much more than appropriate. I would not wish to do your job.NukemJim

Thank you NukemJim, hearing that is very rare, especially on most gun boards.

did I miss dental floss and tooth brush?

magnifiers, various string types, safety pins, hammock, pepper spray, fish hooks, snares, anise seed (bait), nitrile gloves, bees wax

all those who would riddicule...judge not, lest ye be judged.

I carry a purse sometimes....but only if it matches my tu tu:neener:

I have much of the same stuff in a duffle bag in the trunk of my car. I put each seperate catagory in a seperate bag inside the duffle bag.

Looked over the list, seems to cover pretty much everything. I just have a spare bag of electronics equipment. Radios, wire, electrical tape, soldering iron (w solder), fuses, etc. Lots of batteries, of all kinds. You never have enough batteries. Doubt you'd want most of it, but I'd recommend a couple cheap Walmart special two way family radios. I have about a dozen, including 4 really tiny ones the size of a dollar bill folded twice, minus the antenna.

Also have plenty of duct tape, epoxy and 550 cord. You can fix anything from cars to the space shuttle of a combo of duct tape, expoxy and 550 cord.

I think your kit is outstanding! You have more redundancy than I care for in a few areas though. I have a regular sized fatboy with far less gear in it right now.

I would like to ask where you got all the travel sized meds? I've only seen them in full sized first aid kits but I'm not willing to raid my kit in order to carry some with me.

I generally consider myself to be a pretty well-prepared guy.

:scrutiny:

Dear Lord. You carry that with you on a day to day basis? You're better equipped than my car.

Well...okay. You don't have a pure-sine power inverter, a portable air compressor/jump-starter and a tube of tire sealant, but other than that...

Mike :scrutiny:

Mr Dove, you can get a huge variety of travel size meds at convenient type stores, also there are some catalogs out there where you can find some obscure type items. I'll try to look some up for you.

Coronach,

Yeah, I try to carry it as often as I can. And well, guess I need to find a compressor pump ;)

I have about that much stuff in my car, wait, no, not even...wow. Hey man, if you're the one carrying it, I see no reason to object. :)

If it ever gets to the point where I'd need to live out of something like that, I think I'd save the last round for myself.

After all, when the bombs are done falling and the fallout is settling in, do you really want to stick around?

Thats a wee bit overboard, doncha think? :scrutiny:

What obviously so many of the people here fail to see is this is not a bug out bag, well, not really. This is more of a "everyday use" type bag. It has redundancy, because I want to be able to provide from it to my whole family. It has female items for well, females in the family. It has multiples of a lot of stuff, and some stuff that have nothing to do with survival.

That being said, suicide is for the weak. :)

Have you considered getting a trailer?

Well, when one can no longer pick up and carry his bug out/survival bag...:neener:

Man Purse

With this being my inital stab at this please be patience, does this thing come with a spell checker?. However, I'm grateful to find that I'm not alone! My wife thinks I'm crazy for putting together a BOB system. A system is the way I've gone i.e. I start with a small, cargo pocket kit, which takes into account that I already carry a knife, multi-tool, weapon etc. So no need to duplicate those items. Next a small bag of a fanny pack size with additional items not included in pocket kit & maybe more of some items. I tried to put both survival items & first aid type items in the same pocket kit. Got to be too big & heavy so have gone to two seperate pocket kits. This is all still a work in progress & cost does factor into it. Have to go now, duty calls, thanks for your patience.

Wow, lots of very high quality stuff in there. So, how much have you paid for shipping while ordering all that stuff? :D

I tried to build the ultimate Pocket Survival Kit (PSK), with a lot of ideas from www.equipped.org I think I came very close. It is a lot of time, effort, and money to build a well thought-out and dependable kit. Mine is a little bigger than an altoids tin, but McGyver would have a field day with it!

The NRA is selling a jacket-pocket size survival kit for ~ $16 that is an excellent starter package, with extra space inside the o-ring case that alone is probably worth the $16, not to mention the top quality ingredients included inside.

One of the best ideas I've seen is to carry a magic re-lighting gag birthday candle. Insert in a tight fitting soda straw and seal the ends, so if the candle melts it will retain it's shape inside the straw until it cools.

Ditto on the hank of 550 parachute cord. Also disposable paper sunglasses can save the day. And they might match the purse :neener:

Don't forget maps of your area and the area you plan to disappear to. If you are in a rural area, don't forget the topo's!
