This all started for me when I saw Hickock's video. I read the reviews as they came in, and I decided I too needed yet another 1911. I really wanted this one, because of the price ( I paid $699 ), and becuse of Ruger's reputation for durable and reliable firearms.

So, yesterday evening, I called my LGS up, and they had one, which they had been holding for me. I picked it up as they were closing. I must say, it looks nice. It looks every bit as nice as any photo I've seen. The frame to slide fit is tight, and there is not overlap. I have two recently acquired Colts, which do not have the fit that the SR1911 has.

Anyway, I got up this morning field stripped the SR1911 for a visual inspection, ran a patch down the bore, and put it back together. It had enough lube on it already.

I took 350 rounds with me, 150 Federal and 200 WWB. I wanted to shoot rapidly, not give the SR1911 much if any time to cool, and simply see if there would be any problems. I realized that it's not like I shot 10,000 rounds, but I'm satisfied that it is at least very reliable with hardball. I'll test HPs next.

The only time I stopped firing was to reload the two Ruger magazines, with the exception of stoping after about 150 rounds to tighten the grips, typical 1911 thing.

I fired quickly, empying both mags at once the majority of the time, with occasional double taps. Portions of the slide became too hot to touch, but it kept cycling.

Here are the two photos I snapped after the shoot. The target is representative of rapid fire shots at 25 feet. It was fun, and I like my new Ruger. I don't really feel a need to describe the SR1911, and there are countless threads which have done this, and perhaps better than I could anyway.

Thanks, that did it, the SR1911 is my next buy.
nice shooting,,BTW #60 o-rings does the trick for those grip screws.

Very nice. Another great option in the 1911 market. Congrats on your new Ruger 1911. They will be hot sellers.

Didn't know that, will be be at the hardware store Monday buying #60 o-rings.

I have the grandson today. He is almost three. Yesterday, he and I were outside exploring, and we found a turtle. He thought that was the best thing in the world.
He jumped in bed with me this morning, and we wrestled, while my dog (already in bed) watched and yawned.
During that time and now, I keep thinking of the future he and I will have shooting and hunting together.

It's a wonderful life folks.

Had some time this evening, so I took a moment to wipe the sludge off of the rails, and out of the groves, and replace it with litium grease. I grabbed 200 rounds of WWB, and headed to the range. I had two predicted FTFs. I say predicted, because I intentionally did not fully seat the last rounds into the mag. The mag would insert into the well, but the face of the round was not quiet against the back of the mag. This forces the round to hit the top of the chamber and jam. 1911s seem to be more sensitive to this over many other designs.

The other rounds were all flawless.

That is why you have to slap the back of the mag on your hand for the ammo to seat right in the magazine. That's why it's called shooters error.

Dobe; glad to hear another happy SR1911 owner.
I'm a 1911 newbie and just love the Ruger!
Glad to read about the screws so I can keep an eye on mine.

Have fun and shoot straight!

Lateck,

Rich642z, did you miss the word intentionally in Dobe's post? He was trying to create that FTF.

Dobe, good review. I said Ruger would have to make a dang fine 1911 at a good price in order to compete and it seems as though they have. That's a good looking pistol.

great little writeup Dobe. I had one on order at my LGS, but they have no ETA. Friday night i was on gunbroker and found one for $639 BIN, which is only a few more than i was going to be paying locally- so i hit the BIN. Should be here this coming week. Already have some slim G10 grips on the way, as this is for my wife and she is not a fan of the diamondwood (what is wrong with her?!).
I'll make sure and post plenty of pics when i get mine (hers).

$639 sounds good to me.

And yes an SR1911 in 9mm would be nice.

As far as a Commander, I must confess, I now own 10 1911s, and not one Commander. I'm not really sure why.

Ahhhh.... the addiction. I'm on my way to 10 of 'em and love the feel of each and every one with the Ruger being the latest.

My friend got one from Ruger as a test and evaluation model. The day before his arrived, our FLGS got one and sold it for $600.

It's his first 1911. Even though I've been shooting for more than 30 years, I had only fired 1 magazine through a 1911 20 years ago until a month ago.

We put more than 100 rounds through it Saturday. It functioned flawlessly. It's just as accurate as any other handgun I've fired, if not more so. From a rest, we were able to put a lot of shots in a 3" circle.

There's a purely cosmetic concern, the black finish on the edges of all the parts (slidelock, safety, and beavertail) were already worn when he received it new and after we had fired it, the finish was worn off even more. It hasn't been in a holster yet, all the wear is from handling it.

Has anyone else noticed this?

It is indeed a great life; My wife and I are keeping our four grandchildren this week while their parents are out of town. Three of them are in school today and the three year old grandson is here all day. We sat on the swing this morning and then took a walk with his 120 pound dog. We are getting ready to play Hide-N-go-Seek, soooooo, I've got to go hide now...see ya....:D

Put another 300 rounds through my new SR1911. That makes 850 rounds to date, fun and flawless. 90% of the rounds were rapid fire. I did add lube before I started, but still haven't cleaned it. There's some gunk in there, but it still shoots. I'll break it part after a thousand rounds and clean it up.

Just got back from the range. My wife and I had been looking at a car for her. After looking all morning she said she wanted to spend a few hours with my daughter, and asked if I had anything to do for a few hours. I keep my shooting bag and hundreds of rounds in my trunk for just such a freedom moment. I didn't have time to even lube my SR1911 this trip. It shot just fine.

200 more rounds today, for a total of 1050 rounds.
