I have swapped out the Williams Fire Sights out for an XS Lever Rail set, this has a ghost ring set up and a picatinny rail for a huge range of scope mounting options.
Currently I am thinking about an Aimpoint CompC3.
I need to get a sling set up on it also.

So... ideas, thoughts, suggestions?

Hello all, While I'm not a lever action Kind of Guy, I see that this has Possibilities and would work well in many Sitations that many want a carbine or a Rifle for? I jknow a Lot of Law Enforcement in Tx as well as Arizona and new mexico Held on to a ever action 30/30 of some sort for years while other Depts went with AR-15 and or Mini-14?

Yep, will be getting a sling.
I figure it would punch a sapi plate like paper.
Storebought loads will be mostly Hornady leverevolution.
Handloads are from fairly warm 350 gr hardcast up to T-Rex pounding 495 gr hardcast.

When I think of a tactical lever gun I definitely dont think of the 45-70 cartridge.

Care to enlighten us on the choice of this cartridge or is it less tactical of a rifle and more of a bush rifle?

More of a brush rifle, buddy of mine was giving me grief over it having a picitinny rail... so I told him it was Tacticool... just like his collection of ARs.
.45-70 was chosen due to the ability to load it for almost any creature walking the earth... from pigs and deer to bear or the random north american elephant. ;)

What kind of performance are you getting out of a barrel that short? What exactly are you planning on putting down the pipe?

Wish they would make a 45-70 that could reliable rock .410 shells without ejection issues. Rumblings of Rossi going in that direction with their new line, but I haven't seen it confirmed by anybody.

Since I am not running ultra slow powders it does better than expected.
Yea, she barks a little bit... but not as bad as my Mosin Nagant, and no where near my .300 WM.

Given its likely a 150 yard or closer rifle, I'd just stick with the XS sights. I'd go to Wild West Guns website and get their adaptor to mount a light. Its the most elegant IMO system out there. It basically goes over the magazine tube and then gives you a little rail. I'd then toss on a USGI sling and call it a day. Save the rest of the money for bullets and training.

I like it. This is a Marlin 1895GBL. Had the original sights replaced with XS ghost ring. I have since put an XS Lever Rail system on it.

My preference for this will be a long eye relief 2.5x with and illuminated dot. Save that, an Aimpoint micro T1 or similar will ride on there.
