Big bore lever gun club

Just your standard, run of the mill IAC imported Winchester '87 repro:

Functioned flawlessly out of the box, I needed it for the 'man who has everything' toybox and so I didn't regret not getting one when they were imported.

Pardon me, but is the '87 not a shotgun.

I am not too good with pictures, but have Marlin 1895's in standard, cowboy and guide gun, a 1886 Win takedown repro in 45-70, Browning 1885 single shot BPCR, 45-70, a couple of the Win 1895's in .405, then a Ruger #1 in .458, all including the single shots are " lever actions"

Ridgerunner665, what size aperture are you using in that Skinner sight? I was thinking about ordering some apertures from Skinner for my three Marlins that have the XS ghost ring rear sights. I figured I could drill/tap the ghost ring and insert Skinner apertures for improved accuracy at 100 yards.

Thanks.
:)

Its the standard size, I forget what it is exactly (.096" maybe) but its on his website...he will make it whatever size you want for no extra charge.

I'm gonna order me one at about .080"...I tend to shoot further than most with that thing, the .096" does work quite well, but just a tad smaller wouldn't hurt.

I was wondering if you had a custom aperture. Do you like the standard 0.096" aperture or have you thought about larger/smaller?

Thanks.
:)

I have XS Lever Rails on both '95s which I like. I can use the XS iron sights, a scope mounted in the normal position or a red dot/scout scope with extended eye relief.

Thanks for editing your other post ... that was the information I was looking for. I wondered if 0.096" would be small enough.

:)

A better explanation...

The .096" is GREAT for 100-150 yards on game...it really is (quick, easy, and accurate enough)

But I think .080" would be better for me for those 200-300 yards hail Mary shots...on game.

If paper targets are your plan...I'd go even smaller, maybe .065", but then you'd want a thinner blade up front, which Skinner also offers.

My largest caliber is .30/30, so I'm not a big bore owner
- at least now; we'll see what the future brings.

But I am a lever gun lover (see sig line).

So, I'll just drag my chair up here,
watch with envy, and dream a little bit. ;)

Excellent information there Ridgerunner665 ... thanks! I should probably add a photo of my two "big bore lever guns".

Your're welcome 1858,

It took me a couple of posts there to get my head screwed on straight. I think I took 1 too many swallers of cough medicine (I've been fighting a pretty mean cold all week, but I think I'm bout to get it whooped)

Good lookin rifles you have there...
