My weird evening

I just went to Kirby website and they do indeed sell cleaning products of all sorts....I did not see any books for sale though......

Its good to be careful and all, nothing wrong with that.

I think you overreacted or these criminals are well organized and national in their way of "selling kirby's". Actual Kirby vacum salesmen were going door to door in my neighboorhood selling and demonstrating vacums. They were giving out free glade spray or some sort of aerosol cleaner to those who let them put on a demonstration. My neighbor had one and purchased a vacum, I then had a demonstration in my home but had to cut it short as i needed to study for a test. There were no young girls performing this demonstration just a young man and his boss who was delivering the equipment. The reason they wanted to use your vacum was to show you all the stuff your vac misses by vacuming with your vacum and then the Kirby, they then show you all the stuff in the kirby filter your vac missed. I told the kid I had to leave and he picked up his items and left. Guess what happened while I was gone ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

15 years ago, my sister let the Kirby people in......

after the cleaning demo comes the HARD SELL!

she wound up buying a $900 vacuum cleaner .... financing it through Kirby.

This is back in the days when a Hoover upright cost you about $80

It's a whopper of a vacuum.... but no where near worth $900.

Sad part is that she really couldn't afford it.

I still remember her showing me the "back messager attachement"

If her husband had been home... they would have gotten the boot for sure.

Few years back i was a an exgirlfriends home, wating for her to get home.
I was there with the home owner, her cousin.

A Kirby guy knocks on the door and convinces her to let him in to show the vac, also saying that he would make $25 for showing.

After it was over, the cousin of course says thanks but no thanks. This guy would NOT take no for an answer. I was sitting calmly as my ex's cousin started to get frustrated and really didnt know what else to say to this guy.

I stood up and said "hey buddy, i dont know how many times she has to tell you shes not interested, but now IM telling you to get out. So if you dont want any trouble with ME or the COPS you need to get your Kirby and LEAVE!"

Ill tell you right now, i was scared, lol.

But he left.

scams

I dont care where you live there are caracters out there looking for a score.and rural areas are good because less law and isolated.many murders are being commited NOW in rural areas.I am in one but I always am aware of what goes on and am prepared.I always was alert even when a teen.as to mide set .you can be prepared to kill an intruder, but dont'.in this state any one on your property is considered to be there for a nefarious reason.
especialy in your home. as I said you dont have to shoot but have the mindset to if needed.:uhoh:

I'm not saying they were from Kirby, but.....

I used to work for them. Actually, none of their salesmen work for them, they are all independent contractors, at least at the franchise where I worked. The sales tactics used vary widely, and they have alot of sales people who work completely independently. They sound legit to me, although, the bit about the books sounds odd. However, I don't see why anyone casing houses would switch stories, it means you have to carry the equipment for multiple BS stories.

However, when I was working for them, I realized that I basically was casing all the houses I was in. I knew which houses had expensive valuables, I knew which houses were leaving their garage doors open, and I knew which houses had to unlock their doors before opening them. Legitimately working with them would be a great way to case houses, so be careful.
