Recently my wife has become disenchanted with the long/heavy trigger (especially the reset) of her Kahr K-9. So, we're looking for recommendations for small, slim, DA/SA or Single-action pistols, in 9mm or better. Also, she has shortish fingers, so the distance from the backstrap to the trigger can't be too great either. We'll be going fit-testing next week, but can somebody point us towards a good place to start?

My wife absolutely loves "her" CZ-75 PCR. She tried my Glock 19 and 26, but just didn't like the feel of the Glock. CZ is stilll making the PCR, and now makes the PO1 as well (same thing, just with rails for a light mount). Anyway, she has small-medium hands and it fits her just fine. Very smooth SA trigger pulll, but rather long DA pull. Has the decocker and loaded chamber indicator as well.

It's very well made, very reliable and is about $80-100 less than the Glock and much less than a Sig :)

You can check out the details on the CZ forum.

The XD subcompact is out. I handled one last week at a local shop on sale for $459. It has a nice trigger, but it's not really slim. A Glock 26 seems a little slimmer and smaller than the XD.

You won't find many 9mms slimmer than a Kahr K9. Does your K9 have the Elite trigger? The Kahr Elite triggers are shorter and lighter. The trigger on my PM9 (Elite trigger) is so short and light that it's a little scary.

MacPelto:

A 1911 in 9mm. Low recoil, cheap ammo and
ergonomics of the 1911. What more could you
ask for. Current production: Springfield full
size and compacts, Dan Wesson, STI. Used Colt
full size and compacts available.

No pistol has a better trigger. With the ten
round magazine restrictions, they make more
sense than ever.

Stainless Steel.

My first thought was to either the P7M8, the USPc 9 or 45. Then as I read the rest of the thread, the suggestion of the SIG P239 was good & the Walther P99 comes to mind a well.
Happy shopping ;)

My girlfriend just got a Springfield XD-40 a couple weeks ago and she loves it. We had the problem that her hands are kinda small and she couldn't get a good grip on most guns. The XD fits her hands great. Another problem we had was that with DA/SA she could not always get the gun to fire easily because she simply couldn't pull the trigger all the way. This is not a problem with the XD because it is single action.

My best advice would be to take you wife to a gun store and have to hold a bunch of different ones to she what she likes the best.

BTW she hated the way Glocks felt in her hand. They were way to big. I think it has more to do with the grip angle than anything else.

My wife and sister both love the Walther PPK. As a matter of fact, my sister loves it so much she borrowed it over a year ago and I haven't seen it since! :scrutiny:

Wifey wants me to buy her a pretty nickel-plated one. Expensive tastes, but I guess she's asked for worse (She asked for a baby boy the other day, yikes!).

I guess it's the fact that it's single stack for small hands (and much easier to load than a doublestack), easy to reach and see externals, and a bit smaller caliber (usually found in .380, but I've seen 9mm lugers somewhere) that makes the PPK attractive to the both of them. Not to mention, both women were deadly accurate with them from day one.

I have handled/owned all of the above listed guns. I would say a Kahr is much slimmer and smaller than any of them, save the slimness of the P7 and PPK.

The only downside I see to the Kahrs are weight (but they make polymer too) and how light the DAO trigger is (needs a holster).

An MK9 is the size and weight of a PPK, but has a lighter recoil spring for loading, lighter trigger (PP triggers are horendous) and fires a much more lethal bullet.

This may sound really retarded of me, esp. since you posted in the autoloaders section, but if it's mainly a fun gun humor me on this.
Check out the ruger bird's head sheriff's model .45 colt, or .32 H&R magnum single six bird's head.
If it's for self defense, stop reading now.
(Even though with practice the SA guns are nothing to make fun of.)
It is heavy, but very, very fun.
I sent mine to gary reeder for an action job, to adjust point of aim, and do forcing cone and cylinder throat work, as well as to make the cylinder free-spinning.
That gun came back the sweetest shooting wheelgun you could imagine.
It's now the prize of my collection.
If you reload, the .45 colt, and 32 H&R magnum are cheap to shoot, too.
If you don't reload, then again disregard my entire post.
Gary Reeder does excellent work.
The gun looks a little like this...

Here's what they look like from ruger...

A 1911 with thin grips. When you look at the grip of any 1911, you will see that half the thickness comes from the grips. Chip McCormick, among others, makes them.
The Browning HiPower is also a good choise, with grips thinner than the CZ-75. With Navidrex grips from Brownells, or Spegel grips they become even slimmer.
Personally, I would prefer the proportions of the HiPower grip.

She might want to consider the STI LS9, which I believe to be the slimmest 9mm on the market. Soft-shooting, very accurate. 1911 style- very concealable. Check out http://www.stiguns.com/
